    what a great video. i spent most of my twenties running ski shops and 3-pinning from Mammoth to Lake Tahoe, i mostly used cuffed boots with 3-pin bindings on Volkl Renntiger . some days i would take out lightweight gear just to change things up. i remember the first time i used skate skiis ,totaly awsome , parallel or tele it did not matter ,you could tear it up with them. thanks for the memories. A friend once said to me "when you are traversing if your shoulders are not touching the snow, its not steep enough" Thanks again.

      Hey! Thank you so much for commenting that! haha! Yeah we have a couple spots on the mountain that are steep enough for that, maybe I'll tackle that next!🙃 Ihope you get some more fun days out there!

    I love this video. I like the part when you are at the top of the mountain in the wind with all the alpine skiers and you are on your skate skis ⛷️ 😃 Fun to watch your decent!

    epic footage. shoulda sent the mogul field haha. you should get a pair of fisher otx sbound and do some big mountain touring just to show it can be done.

      Thanks! I just upgraded my mid weight touring set up so I'll have to wait a bit to get the light weight gear. But I'd love to, and yeah seeing what guys are doing on big mountain with light weight touring gear has been awesome to watch! I'll practice and see how my mogul skiing on skate skis goes next year haha

    Fantastic video - Does the use of skate skis work better than classic for this (recognizing neither were meant as an alpine replacement)

    • @eriklynch7037
      @eriklynch7037  2 года назад +2

      Thank you! You could use either, but yes I would say skate skis and the boots for skate skis, are just a bit more stable for the downhill and make the decent more enjoyable. Plus on the accent for the steep parts I had to use the herring bone technique any way, there would not have been enough grip or kick on classic skis to go strait up. So for this, on groomed or mostly groomed ski area trails I would say skate works better, more freedom, more fun.

    I tried it today and I made the technique perfectly on a small slope for kids, but I was afraid of even doing a blue run. Do you have any tips on how to overcome that fear?

    • @eriklynch7037
      @eriklynch7037  Год назад +1

      I love hearing that! I definitely do and I really want to make a video on this I just need it to be quality! I've had lot of requests for this topic, and my best tip is to regress to a down hill you are confident and comfortable with and, start "attacking" that more. how fast can you sprint, skate down it, where you are really taking charge of your pace and speed, where how fast you go is up to you. Then, on the same hill get up to speed, then see how many different ways you can stop and how fast you can come to a stop on that hill. Then so the same with turns. Your ability to stop, turn, maneuver, will eliminate the fear. Once comfortable there, progress to a more challenging hill. Repeat. Regression can lead to progression. I hope that helps!!

    Hi Eric and thank for the great video. You mentioned these are skate skis and boots. Do your bindings lock for the downhill? I’m a regular skier. I want to get a pair of skate skis for Ironman training in the winter and sometime use them for downhill. Do I need the back country version with the metal edges or regular skate skis will do the trick? What about boots, bindings? Learning curve? Sorry for all the questions?

    • @eriklynch7037
      @eriklynch7037  2 года назад +1

      Hey Vasilis! Thanks for the questions, that's awesome you do ironmans! Huge respect! To better help me answer I would ask if you have some cross country ski trails or at least cross country skiable trails near you? If you are new to Skate skiing it really helps to start on flatter of more rolling terrain. For the equipment I am using in this video they are skate skis and the heels do not lock down. I would suggest if possible, to get yourself a skate ski set up and a backcountry set up where your heels do lock down and you have metal edges. If you had to choose just one and you have some good mountains in your area I would suggest just the back country setup. The learning curve is a bit longer on skate skis but I am putting out videos right now, on how to skate ski! So if you want you could check that out to see if it would be a good fit! Let me know if that made sense or if you need more detail! thank you and I should probably answer your questions in a video to get more in depth and have it make more sense. Hat hanks!

      @@eriklynch7037 Hey Erik. Thank you for the reply. I have a few trails around me in central NJ. I can also drive to a ski resort. I also have a lake house and the lake freezes. I decided to upgrade my downhill skis, and get a skate ski set up. I’m going to take a few lessons and also watch your videos. I’m also considering, in the summer, doing my long runs on a roller blade skate ski set up. What do you think? How steep can you downhill on skate skis? Can you post a video showing the technique? Thank you!

      @@vasilischatzigiannis5648 Awesome that all sounds great yeah roller skiing in the summer and fall is great! you can go down super steep stuff on skate skis. It gets tricky when its really icy or really deep snow but if you get good you can manage most conditions. Yes I will post a video I have a competition this weekend and I'm headed to Europe next week for more competitions, so my posting is going to be random, but I'll do my best!

    Hey man. What kind of skis are these? Do they have metal edges?

    • @eriklynch7037
      @eriklynch7037  3 года назад

      Thanks for asking! These are just your typical cross country skate skis, which do not have metal edges and have a free heel, making it a bit sketchy on the decent ha! The boots don't have that much support either.
