Oh neat, now you can get one friend to just work switches from the map! Would be cool to see several trains just running non-stop while a dispatcher makes sure they all go where they should.
4:57 but if it were "super-realistic" you also had more than 1 person driving a train, so that kind of out the window, kinda need to make up for the fact you don't have a whole crew with features like that
Yeah, I'm not so sure how realistic it is, jumping out a driving train, running to the switch, switching it, run back to the driving train and jump back on. 😅
OP Beat me to it at 4:57… No, it’s not realistic that a driver sets switches, except in storage yards. From the very start of railroading, a train would be dispatched to a route, as a written train order. Staff along the route would set their equipment accordingly, following the table of all the orders. They telegraphed staff ahead and backwards, to acknowledge the position and time of every train (so the telegraph booths are realistic…). And of course, this process became increasingly automated, laying off lineside staff… Any “extra” train would create a s**tload of paperwork and logistics in the 1890s and even today. But sure, _this is a game_ - and may it just remain so…😂
Don’t get me wrong, I understand game burnout… but I definitely appreciate all of the hours of content within this playlist. Kept me entertained and introduced me to a new game.
Looks awesome, I've tried quite a few times to get into this game but each time the switching does my head in, so its good to see a lot of updates aimed at improving gameplay for people who aren't interesting in stop starting trains. Keep the series going I love it.
I JUST bought Railroads Online and Derail Valley for my birthday. I played both of them for a couple hours each and I love both of them. I NEED to play the new Railroads Online map after watching your video! Although with pre-laid track because I tried to lay track and it was NOT pretty.
Kan I don’t know if you have seen this already but Railroads Online has modeled steam chest. This means you go faster if your reverser is towards around 30% bar
I do miss your RO videos that you did with Hyce, but I totally understand why that'll never happen again. I do hope to see more RO content from you though.
@@siegehardt Studio 346 (or whatever it is called) was made by Hyce and some friends after the fallout with RRO. Hyce used to work with/for RRO, but disagreements led to a breakup. Century of Steam is designed to be a competitor to RRO with a similar style of game play. However, after his gaming break and now how he has returned with a new mentality, it could go either way, but I doubt he will play it due to it being competition.
As someone who usually plays solo, the new map update makes everything easier. Now you can run multiple trains to multiple destinations without the switch stress with just one player!
If you ask me, you should save up and try getting either a Glenbrook next if you want pulling power, Eureka if you want blistering speed, or (because it’s something new and different) get the Ferries & Cliff House 2-4-2T. It’s basically a mini-Class 48, so the middle child between Betsy and 48. It does burn coal, yes, but the coal takes long enough to burn through that you’ll probably have the coal mine hooked up and can refill it by then.
I liked watching you run out of wood and not notice the fire temp dropping at the end. That was kinda funny. But the game also has a coal fired ten-wheeler(D&RGW Class 47) and a coal fired rotary snowplow! I tested the 47 myself and it goes faster than the Eureka and is really strong!
Was just wondering if you were planning any MP sessions that might be open to your community... If there was such a thing, where would be a good place to watch for information about that?
For the lumber mill, Might be better to add the Y to the back end of the yard to save on a lot of unnecessary running… Plus it would allow a longer lead on that end for bigger engines or building/braking train sets. Just an idea. Railroad looks great! And this update is definitely QOL!!
Good stuff been waiting for more railroads stuff from you good sir, I just started playing again need to get me a crew to build a RR and have some fun cheers bub 🎉
best update EVER. ive damn near doubled my hours in this game since.. pushing 200hrs.. whups also. bigger cars do hold marginally more. so u wil make more per car, and their more stable at higher speeds.
These are some changes I've been looking forward to since the roadmap got announced. Sadly I don't enjoy the game anymore with all the things that have been changed for the worse in the mean time. Industries wasting supplies, new cars and engines just spawning anywhere, switches not being drag to flip anymore, the weird cut-off sim, and also all maps being upside down now. This is a massive step in the right direction, but too many have been taken the opposite way.
Watch out when unloading the short log cars - I've had adjacent cars unloading at the same time like you did and once in a while, depending on the timing, when the logs magically expand to full length they can knock logs next to them, causing one or two logs to go somewhere other than the pond, so you lose them. I tend to unload every other car because of this issue, then make another pass to unload the others.
Using the switches from the Map I just pretend there's someone down the line switching them for me. Toggling on the mini-map seems to only work when your operating a loco in 3rd person. Or at least for me anyway. Which is fine, keeps me from having open the mega map if I forgot a switch. :) Also on the Aurora Falls map, I moved the bigger industries(Refinery, Iron Works, & Meat Packing) closer to my City with Depot, Express Agency(Gold Smelter now lives in it's default location) and my Yard leaving just the raw resources and smaller industries way out there. Gold Smelter was the first to get moved after the Express Agency. It made no damn sense why you would drag processed gold ore back up the hill to the Smelter from the Stamp Mill. Real gold mines don't operate that way. It all flows down hill now from Mine > Stamp Mill > Smelter. Also gives me a reason to visit my Big City more often since I have to run by/through it to get to those major industries. :)
Y'know, your train for the logging camp is short enough that you can simply spot the cars on the main track under the wye, uncouple, run the loco around the wye, then couple onto the rear and shove it into the logging camp without even entering the yard. Placing the yard where it is beyond he Wye seems a bit unnecessary and time consuming. You could also just put a runaround loop at the industry itself if you really need to have a loop.
Next up should be double heading QOL. Throw two locomotives on and control the back one from the lead loco. Honestly we just want the game to be more like playing with model trains lol
Bigger cars grants you more experience at the cost of slightly increased weight compare to smaller cars. It means, with bigger ones you can make more cash and more EXP per trip. Why don't you shorten the rout to pass near the farm while going from the logging camp? You can leave one going toward the depo, but with that shortcut you will have dedicated log route hauling logs for specific industry instead of towing the load all around the map?
@@Nevir202 There is no difference in XP and money gain, only difference is number of loaded cargo per car. Let me explain: For example, I usually do 6 large cars with Montezuma, it easily pull 6 (siometime 8) large cars on 4% grade uphill while empty, downhill I don't count. That means I can easily bring 36 logs in one go and I need only one time to move the composition while loading cargo, because large cars fits perfectly on loading cranes and you can load 4 large cars at once then 2 more and you are ready to go. While on small cars, you have to load probably 3 at once if you hit perfect position and it is hard to fit perfectly, so it makes 2, you have to bring 7 small cars with you for 35 logs, it means you will have to move the composition 4 times while loading (3 if you hit perfect position) and loading takes time in long run. Basically, one large car can make you $60 and 60EXP while one small car makes $50 and 50XP, you have to bring 6 large or 7 small plus 1 for 1 extra log, now, put 2 times loading with large cars and 4 times loading with small ones for same amount of cargo, it means double the time for loading on this particular setup Now, small cars weight is 2425lbs and they cost $200 each, while large ones are 8378lbs and $300 Let's compare the cars for 6 large cars, composition of cars weight 50268lbs empty, it costs you $1800 to buy them, you can bring 36 logs and you have to stop 2 times for loading for 21 small cars, composition of cars weight 50925lbs empty, it costs you $4200 to buy them, you can bring 105 logs and you have to stop 8 to 10 times for loading So, loading time is essential in fast runs, that means with 6 large cars I will be faster in loading and probably on half way while you are still loading your 21 small cars for the same weight of the composition with 6 large cars you can do probably from 5 to 7 trips while with small ones you can do only 1 trip (the reason is simple that you need time to load and unload lots of cars with small ones.) Now, let say I can do 5 trips with large, 5 time 36 is 180, 180 logs in 5 trips, it is 1800EXP and $1800, while you have to bring only 105 logs in one trip and probably returning to load 2nd trip, it means you can make 105 logs in 1 trip and make only 1050EXP and $1050 Reason is simple, it is much more easier to deal with small amount of cars that with bunch of them and with long train composition while playing alone, even if you have someone, it is still faster with large cars I hope I was clarify why I always use large cars, simple because it is easier to manage the composition and it takes less time precising the position for loading and unloading. And yes, montezuma can haul 8 large cars on an 3.5% grade with not much effort, little slower but it can manage, and all of the above I have use the calculation for only 6 cars, with 8 cars you can bring even more with the same amount of time and stops for loading the cars, 2 stops to fill 8 cars :D

for 6 large cars, composition of cars weight 50268lbs empty, it costs you $1800 to buy them, you can bring 36 logs and you have to stop 2 times for loading
for 21 small cars, composition of cars weight 50925lbs empty, it costs you $4200 to buy them, you can bring 105 logs and you have to stop 8 to 10 times for loading
So, loading time is essential in fast runs, that means with 6 large cars I will be faster in loading and probably on half way while you are still loading your 21 small cars for the same weight of the composition
with 6 large cars you can do probably from 5 to 7 trips while with small ones you can do only 1 trip (the reason is simple that you need time to load and unload lots of cars with small ones.)
