Only page could write such a slow, menacing, dark misty riff from the bowels of the earth and then have jones lift it up to lofty almost heavenly heights, THEN bring it back down to a hypnotic Celtic droning mantra... I Fucking love Zeppelin
man you are so correct, this makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and march. Led Zeppelin was the rock machine, no one compares. the GODS OF ROCK by far, who can really compare, honestly.
this is the only cover of this GREAT tune. can u help, where is an origanal lz song? they really did a great job, in d light is really a cult by now. 1 of best, from 1 of the best. . this tune is just..well..genious.
Very little now days will ever evoke the emotion and grandeur that this song does! Few songs can take you to another plane of existence like in the light.
We smoked a bowl of hashish with Jimmy page and the drummer before the concert backstage ! We were so stoned. We laughed out the back stage door...only to have to pay to get back in agin. $ 45 each. It was a good show indeed !
In this track, one of the 'heaviest guitar riffs' you could find. PG is one of the top albums of rock. And, after hearing this great live version, I had to listen to Bron-Yr-Aur. Which was the next album track. Play it...
Saw the P & P show in 1998 at Great Woods (MA), one of the best concerts I've ever seen, and the only time I've seen them in person (Zep only played CT in 1969 & 1970, when I was only 14, 15 years old). Jimmy was absolutely on fire that night (everybody knew it) and Robert hitting the high notes. Loudest ovations I've ever heard for that size venue in 50+ years of concert-going. 🎸🎤
Life long fan of the Zep. When a band puts out a album maybe you get 3 or 4 good songs and the rest of the album is a number of fair songs. In my opinion the one thing that really impressed me about Led Zepplin was that every song on every album rocked, rare indeed.
Man this is so good. Led Zeppelin was my favorite band while was growing up and seeing this amazing song done here with another group of awesome rockers just blows my mind. I love the Page/Crows collaboration. Incredible!
You have an incredible band with so much natural feel with Jimmy. Eddie H rip is the best keys player I’ve ever seen live .This is a massive track beautifully portrayed here.
They did such a great job in getting the feel for this song. As a young kid my friend had this album, and it blew me away! Just the whole feel of it . This was before i heard th first, second or third album. My favorite zep album today!
Lol, not perfect? How so? No live performance is "perfect", perfection is only attainable in a studio. It's weird you'd say "not perfect". Where's your perfect live version?
Charles, i think i was referring more to the sound quality of the video not the actual performance itself. I had some breaks on the feed. I think perfect was the wrong word for my original post. I think Rick Beato says that "perfection is the greatest enemy of goodness" and i tend to agree. I love the authentic live performances.
@@charlesbowers1749 Lead singer Chris Robinson doesn't quite reach the highest notes on the outro, but as you say, perfection isn't attainable - or perhaps not even desirable - in a live setting, and since LZ never played In the light live this is pretty much as good as it gets. For personal reasons this happens to be the LZ song closest to my heart, and to actually hear it done live is truly heart warming. Didn't even know this existed until today.
It's an excellent cover Chris puts his heart and soul into every second of it 😊 His voice is amazing I hope the the band are proud of this cover ❤️❤️❤️ Just needs Bonzo ❤️❤️❤️❤️I always cry when I hear it Il take it to the grave 💞
Reall great guys! Thank you so much for playing this foundation of rock music, this contribution to the music in general. Thank you both, Led Zep & BC. Awesome, you performed a great, respectful and careful version of what is undoubtedly a milestone in Rock Music. Jaiwi
Surprised Zep didn't do this one Knebworth/80 tour with John Paul Jones new synths. But then I suppose if you have achilles, Kashmir, ten years gone, stairway to heaven It may be Epic overload
I've always been of the opinion (perhaps a minority one but an opinion none the less) that many of Zep's tunes, like this one, required more musicians than they brought to the stage when they were active - and because of that, many of their tunes took on a completely different live personality, and (IMHO) not often a good one. Therefore it's refreshing to hear a Zep tune with keyboards played live that actually has a discernable bass line as well (not to mention the multiple guitar parts).
I love housefull all those layered guitar sound. I'm sort of a guitarist myself and I think in the live recordings I hear page compromising and playing parts of different guitar parts on a single thread. It's like he was trying to capture the best of all the parts.
Kevin Keyes..........You are correct. I saw the original Led Zeppelin 3 times throughout the 70's and then Page & Plant during their "Unledded" tour in the early mid 90's in Orlando Florida. Page always did infuse "parts of the various guitar parts" during their live performances, that were done as overdubs in the studio. At times, he really pulled it off, and other times, it sounded a little thin. Either way, it's a damned hard thing to do live, as Zep tunes are not that easy to perform AND make it sound right anyway. I know, because I'm a "retired" highly seasoned guitarist/blues harp/singer/performer/perfectionist, and covered most of the Zep catalog over a period of decades. Try SINGING it and playing those guitar parts at the same time on stage. I sure as hell did it.......and I did it a lot. I don't think I ever witnessed ANY other person pull off Plant's voice and Page's guitar playing at the same time, on stage, like I did. They were the masters for sure. I truly feel sorry for the younger generations being raised on rap & hip hop. They are totally CLUELESS......when it comes to REAL MUSIC.
I was doing 90 hour weeks on the Hercules and Xena TV shows when this was happening. Some of the crew went over to see this, fuck, now I wish I had too...
Type in : Led Zeppelin In the Morning ( Take Me Home) Early Version of In The Light. Page was doing " Lucifers Rising" soundtrack music at the time. The intro eerie type sound on" In the Light" is definitely influenced. What do you mean " youngsters out there"? I'm 66 years young bought " Physical Graffiti" dbl LP when released I think for $6.00
This is a fantastic song ,always thought it opened up PG and set the scene.Chris and his fellow Crowes really pull it off as Zeppelin is so hard to cover.Jimmy just goes where he wants, people accuse him of being sloppy but he is just really loose and in control, they are actually seriously tight considering this was just a project in 99.Genuinely thought Chris would go out with Zeppelin last year as Percy stated he wasnt up for it.LATG is one of the best live albums in the last 20 years.Rn'FR
Zeppelin always reminds me of my first real girlfriend in high school. We watched The Song Remains the Same in midnight showings several times. In Through the Out Door was released during that time s as f we were planning on going to the Cleveland show around the time Bonham died. I miss those years.
I think Jimmy should go out on the road with Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton and do this material!!! 3 guitarists doing Led Zeppelin justice...and maybe some Yardbirds tunes too..and Cream and some Beck's Bolero!!!!
Too bad Zeppelin never did this live ever. Not even once. Something about JPJs mellotron tapes overheating and not playing back at the right speed (?) Anyway they didn't geT to do it, so for page to finally play it years later must have been very fulfilling
Keith Richards said he didn't like Led Zeppelin 2. But of course he also said that Jimmy Page is on of the greatest guitars players he has ever ment. The STones are a good pop band from the 60s. Though now they are an embarrassment in ego stroking and pocket lining.
That’s the thing about jimmy page He want to do Rock opera It’s all about juke jimmy the blues got to have soul Basically a connection with the audience
Jimmy's fave Physical Graffiti song. He and Robert were enthusiastic to play it live but legend says Jones was uncomfortable with the synth sound in a live context. This excuse sounds weak so THAT part is probably legend.
These were all single note runs on a MiniMoog in this song. If Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman could dazzle at this time, there really was no real excuse on Jones part. He had no trouble with Kashmir live.
Hes trying to pull off that disonant note but i believe its supposed to be an open ringing note at the end of the verse riff right? Bit distracting yeah but points for trying it. I think if you just did the main riff without something buzzing away in the background itd be off the other way.
Any youngsters out there that have not heard the album Physical Grafitti need to turn on to it. Best album ever.
The most undervalued album from them, in my opinion. Like yeah it has Kashmir, but every song on there is completely mind-blowing.
Stuck on a island physical graffiti exile on main st highway to hell covered my all my bases

Probably the best rock guitar arranger ever. A true genius.
You said it all right there. And still have it be hard core
JPJ was the secret weapon of Led Zep.
They should have opened the 1975 shows with this song. Imagine the lights down and the synth howling that intro....goosebumps.
Good call! Nice slow burn to get Plant's already horse throat at least primed for later flight in the set🤙

Extremely difficult song to reproduce live, they did such a great job!
Much easier when you have seven blokes on stage vs. just four.
@@tedwojtasik8781 Modern Tech helps. All the synth parts are laid down before hand. Sound backing tracks are used by everyone now.

This riff was ahead of it's time
Which one?? They’re all hot licks
This show should've been the officially released live album. Wanton Song, In the Light, etc.. great show
jimmy page and the black crowes play with such passion that it puts life to the song. they should release more albums together
Majestic. As close to the Page vision as you will hear live!
C. Robinson rocks. He bleeds soul and the blues.

Excellent in all respects , great to hear and see the live versions done justice by terrific musicians no weak performances here . Brilliant

The intro with its "call to prayer" thanks to Jonesy really sets you up for the internal journey of this song
best blues voice to come out of America in a long time
