It was natural no one talked about her until 1994 when two more Indians won the titles simultaneously of two different pageants. Her grace and charm seems as intact as she had during younger days. Brain and beauty is a rare combination.
What an amazing lady. In those days when women were seeking fame and fortune in movies and modeling, she stuck to her goals and became a doctor to serve the people. She's a real role model, and I wish youngsters in India would follow her lead, instead of being Bollywood crazy , imitating film stars. Proud of a fellow Indian.
I don't understand why creative skills are considered bad in India. Not everyone wants to be a doctor. Success should be achieved through the talents you have, and acting is a talent not everyone has and a tough job too. Let's not put others down for their choices.

She is the daughter of Anette who in the 60's owned a famous salon in Marine Lines at Bombay, now Mumbai. My mother and I were regular hair styling customers at Anette's salon. Not sure about rejecting popularity but she did just the right thing by not leaving her studies. One of the reasons she stood out in the beauty contests was because she was studying medicine and so if she had not become a doctor it would be unjust to her victory as Miss World.
Sorry but I dont think that's tru or makes much sense...studying medicine does not make u a winner of a beauty contest ...its her beauty intelligence and poise that does that ....and so she continued with her dream of serving humanity as a doctor instead of being drawn by the lights of stardom as many do ...exceptional human !

When i was an child living in Suriname (South America) i heard about her...First Indian Lady won an Beauty Contest! There were a lot of Suriname Indians girls wanted to look like her! Having the same hairdress and her make up was their ultimate dream! Yes she had beautifull thick black hair...but she became an doctor i did not know that! Chapeau to her!!
