Watching this video reminds me the old days when I learned the flute and the 7 years of playing it. It makes me want to pick it up again and try it again. I stopped playing because I didn’t want to be a professional but just enjoy it. My private teacher saw a talent and wanted me to pursue it professionally and that what took the fun out of it for me.
Before I learned double tonguing, I first played with the single tonguing at 126 until I was confident with it. My teacher told me that Te-Ke (Ti-Ki), Ke-Te (Ki-Ti) etc. works better than Da-Ga Da-Ga, maybe it will help some people here.
@@wildflute This might not apply to flute but I play trumpet and I have learnt that Te-Ke should be used when youy want a strong articulation and De-Ge is for when you need a softer articulation.
@@gunnarkilborn3915 The strength of the articulation comes mostly from the force of the air behind the articulation not the placement of the tongue. In fact if you feel how T and D are shaped in your mouth you might notice less room in the mouth when using T and also slightly more tension in the jaw. That can be used to good effect for percussive sounds but it cuts off some of the resonance. So it depends on the sound and effect you’re going for. Fast Bach needs more sound and resonance. Ian Clarke’s Great Train Race needs more sound effects.

Amazing video thank you, as an Irish traditional (wooden) flute player, I could not understand how Eimear McGeown, who is also a concert flautist, played repeated series of triplets (in hornpipes) that fast. Now I know! Reproducing it is another story...
Found your video on tonguing for the flute well done. I am sure you did amazing amount of work to be able to do the various tonguing techniques. Everyone mouth is different. A person has to find what works for them by experimenting and not get frustrated. It is wonderful that you enjoy and are cheerful in talking and demonstrate mastering the flute.

Haha as an spanish native, I can asure u, i was able to play the flutter-tonguing just by the very first time, and it was intuitive... when earing to silent hill theme, that comes with bandolin, I tryed to reproduce it in many ways and I could not, then tryed rollig the R and discovered the thechnique 😄😄

I started to play flute when I was 6 years or seven old early because my hand was long enough to reach all the notes but I stopped playing due to not having time to because of work will the app tonic music helped me become better at playing my flute and being consistent because I get distracted a lot buy other things.
Thank you very much for this video, it's always very instructive, even after many, many years of flute playing! 💜 One point that raises a lot of questions for me though: where do you place your "TA" in the mouth? behind the upper teeth (on the alveolar ridge) or between the lips/teeth? Because on the Handel at 01:56, we can see the tip of your tongue between your teeth on the single tonguing attacks, but not on the "TA"s that follow in double tonguing. So I wonder if you change the place of articulation of the TA depending on whether it's single or double tonguing (or if simply the tongue comes back less to the front with speed)?? We don't talk enough about the place of articulation in the mouth in flute teaching! Personally, I've always articulated my TA between my teeth, my single tonguing is very fast and with a clear and nice sound, but my double tonguing is still very heavy despite many years of practice, and this makes me wonder! 😅maybe I'm just not placing my tongue correctly in my mouth when practising? Thank you in advance for your advice and comments! 🙂

How do you keep from putting too much 0:39 weight on those rods without risking bending them over a short period of time. I'm at the baby stages of learning the flute. I try to hold my flute at the very top part of the body ----right beneath where it joins with the head joint. Anyway, thumb's up. 👍😎. I really learned a lot. Thanks for the instructional video. It was greatly appreciated
Kinda confused to be honest because the way i learned triple tounging is three different articulation points instead of using the two in a pattern. Ex: "ta-di-ga" for triple tounging instead of "Ta-ka-ta, Ta-ka-ta". I'm not a flute player but a brass player instead so if there's something I'm missing let me know, I'm very curious and want learn 😁 Oh and also, quadruple tonguing? I've heard of the concept but never heard it explained well. Any knowledge on that would be appreciated as well

Join a community band or orchestra. It's fun and the only pressure is what you put on yourself.

nope. d-g is faster and allows more air into the flute so that there’s more sound than articulation

"daga" is how my friends "sing" double pedal on drums, I was never able to sing it, I actually didn't make any effort.
