Playing at 11 years old Bravo! With its variations, harmony and orchestration Carmen's 4-act opera is very funny, because it has some comedy and also talks about love and pain. I have visited a group in Tonic where they discuss these operas. And also that section of questions and answers in the works is very helpful.
"Carmen" isn't funny at all. It was only performed at the Opéra-Comique because of the silly rules at the time that forbade pieces with spoken dialogue to be performed elsewhere. The premiere was a disaster mostly because people thought they were going to watch a comedy, and it turned out to be a tragic sad story instead. There's absolutely nothing funny about this opera. Yes, it's colorful and full of Spanish-inspired musical exoticism, but the tone is very serious through out.
