Thanks for showing both sides of this ride! It has been so long I forgot that it had two sides to it. I do remember the Yettis though. :) I also miss the Skyway that went through the mountain that is no longer there. It was so cool cuzz they had it so you could see the yetti screaming when you went through the mountain. Never should have taken that ride out imo. :|
I've always loved the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and I prefer the new cars to the old ones, where you practically sat on the lap of the person seated behind you.
The new sleds are actually WORSE. Never thought that was possible! On the upside, that thing was SO ROUGH, it re-aligned my spine. Now I can cancel my chiropractor.
gosh i always wonder why the left side was more scary! its because of the last yeti in tunnel! right one you see it but the left it blinks off and on! Xd
There is a fastpass line for Radiator Springs Racers. Also, there's a single rider line as well. You can look on the Disneyland website to see all the rides that have fastpass lines.
I went on the ride recently (Last week actually) and it is way slower and way less bumpy, it used to throw you around like you were on an uneven and harsh terrain, now it feels like a leisure stroll through the park. But that could be just me
COOL! I opened two screens and watched each side at the same time! Too bad I'm hearing bad reviews on the updates, I used to love this ride. I remember the single file seating in 1974.
I have not gone on this ride, nor have I been to Disneyland in California, since I was 8 years old, but I really liked this ride a lot when I went on it, and I wish I had gone on it again before leaving the park, except that snowman scared me, a little bit. It's a shame they don't also have this ride at Disney's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida, although I don't know quite where the ride would fit. Probably the Adventure land part, but I think it would be cool if they could bring the Matterhorn ride there, as well.
Its alot SLOWER today than it was back in the 60's and 70's maybe even during the 80's. I think when they added the Bigfoot nonsense and filled in the interior tracks with tunnels in '78 it was still pretty fast but somewhere during the 90's the ride started getting neutered, probably because of concerns for it being more "family friendly" hence they began slowing it down even back then. This looks even slower now than even I remember back when they were still running the older cars. That right side looks like its barely moving. I can remember back before the first "upgrade" in 1978 when you went up the incline even though it wasn't lite, from the light from the Skyway openings you could clearly see alot of the framing on the interior, the interior tracks below and the Skyway going thru it right above you. Bonus points if you could bomb a rider in a Bobsled below from the passing Skyway car with a JuuJuuBee, yes, we were bad kids ;-) .
People always line up more for the Tomorrowland side rather the Fantastland side due to the fact that the Tomorrowland side is, in fact, a little bit faster. Also featured on that side is a surprise dip that, when sitting near the back, can give you a nice pop of air out of your seat.
55 and still love this ride on my "'E' ticket" - it SHOULD be jolting; it's a BOBSLED!!! Husband is handicapped from stupid out-of-work driver/stupid'er Sonora, CA, CHP jerk December 1970 (you know who you are, RIP), and he LOVES THIS RIDE!!!
If you dont mind not sitting behind/infront of someone you know, you go in the Single Riders line, so when theres a group that needs one more person, someone from the single riders line comes.
This ride is cool. I loved it when I was younger. I spoke to a School-Age girl about this ride when my parents and I were in line in May 2017. I told her that I loved this ride when I was her age. She nodded her head "Yes" after I asked her if she liked this ride. It was so funny when my dad said, "Yoo hoo, Harold" as Barney Gumble from The Simpsons. Always keep your hands up on the turns. DO NOT place them on both sides which may lead to injury, because theme park guests who aren't very intelligent ALWAYS tend to do that. It was one of the mistakes I made when my parents and I traveled to Disneyland this year in May. This year in October, I managed to keep my arms at both sides at every turn. I did learn from the mistake I made this year in May. Sometimes, my dad would always say, "Watch out for Harold". This year in October, I spoke Yeti to Harold and told him that my mom misses him. She's been diagnosed with vertigo.
wait... in mattehorn 2012 is the east side the one slower with no drops and the west fast with 2 drops? I saw it on a different video but it doesnt say anything here. PLEASE RESPOND
you might be confused with the big hills they are making that is snowy and supposed to have a castle on it...because i NEVER heard anything about a matterhorn adding to the fantasy land expansion. they are building a new rollercoaster but its snow white themed.
we were there when it was being rebuilt. but we had trouble figuring out if that was what it was supposed to loo like until we saw the fences and the people going in and out
I'm sorry but the new bobsleds unfortunately made the ride awful and painful. They're bumpy, cramped, and they stick to the track, causing the bobsled to jolt constantly as it rides. This causes the bobsled to not glide smoothly and so speedily like the original did, which was an absolute thrill ride experience. I feel like Disney updating the bobsleds was not only for "safety", but it was also to control the line wait. Matterhorn had a long wait time before, and now I've noticed it's not as bad as before, and I'd say the uncomfortable experience is the reason why. I mean, Thunder Mountain is similar and it's got comfortable seating. Now don't get me wrong, I still love the Matterhorn a lot, but I'm afraid I'm deeply disappointed by the bobsleds.
I had quick reflexes when my "Cactus League Spring Training Arizona" baseball cap fell off of my head on this ride. I managed to catch it just in time.
Taking the history of rides into account, this opened in 1959. The first looping coasters were poorly engineered, so inverting rides were gone by the 1900s. Going back upside down didn't happen until 1975 when Knott's opened Corkscrew. There's no inversions on this, as rides were still non-looping at that point in time.
What i never understood, is that the matternhorn is orginally supposed to be from switzerland/austria. right? but your supposed to encounter the "Yeti" But the yeti is supposed to be in the himilayas, right? Expedition Everest says so, at Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida. Disney has a weird way of contradicting themself..
I haven't ridden it yet with the new sleds (because the line is always so long, even during the "off season") but it seems to be slower and less exciting. It seems like you sit higher in the sled, like in a normal seat, not down low like the old one, which I think takes some of the thrill out of it. I don't know why Disney has to tamper with something that has worked just fine for 50 years. But I'll have to ride it for myself.
I'm gonna be going on this ride for the first time next month, but I'm pretty sceared of drops on rides... Is this ride that bad? I can handle Indiana Jones (my favorite!) and can kinda handle the drop in Pirates of the Carribean even though it does freak me out a bit (yes, I know I'm a total wimp XP), but Splash Mounain, and Space Mountain are too much O_o is this ride too bad? Cuz, I've always wanted to try it in all the times I've been to Disneyland... Thanks!!
The tomorrow land track is the left, the fantasyland track is the right. And make sure to try to get in the very back! You'll get the most speed! That goes for any ride!
I WENT on this ride when I went to Disneyland And One time I did one side and then when I went on it a diffrent day I went on the other day BUT THEY WERE BOTH FUN!!
In terms of theming, I agree. In terms of ride system, I think *Space Mountain* more accurately qualifies as WDW's version of the Matterhorn since it literally uses the *exact* same style of track and very similar trains, while Expedition Everest is more like Big Thunder on Steroids.
Want to know what I noticed? After you go to six flags and go on roller coasters like viper, scream, etc EVEN revolution it takes the fun out of these rides. Idk why but it seems like after your first loop roller coaster these rides don't seem to scare you anymore lol.
Theres not much of a difference, but this one is the "Abominable Snowman." The other one is the official "Yeti." I'm pretty sure they are the same, maybe this one is the Yeti's kid (Smaller)?
Do you get a pain in your neck after riding the Matterhorn . Matterhorn in the 90s was smooth and fast now it's a very unpleasent ride today. It hurts while you sit it jerks much harder than Indiana Jones now that I avoid this ride at 85% of my Disneyland Visits . This track has to go and be replaced with a new track or smooth out the tracks to make the matterhorn more pleasant . When I go to Disneyland I don't want to get hurt I want to have Fun.
the Matterhorn bobsleds was the first tubular steel traced coaster that was made by arrow this company would go on to help make the amusement industry what it is today
I've been to Disney World several times, and last year when I went to California I went to Disney Land for a day. I had always heard about this ride, but when I rode it I was disappointed because it wasn't all that great. I like Big Thunder Mountain way way better.
It seems to be a decent ride to me but like Space Mountain Disney seems to put the brakes on early on the downhills so they never become full thrill rides. No hands up on this one, not with those low clearances. I would ride it though.
can you come down on the 18th cause im heading there on the 13th and staying at disneyland till the 18th and heading back home on the 19th i live like 12 hours away
I truly madly deeply believe and want Disneyland to reconsider remaking this ride, maybe like the one in Orlando with also a Yeti? IT DOESN'T HAVE TO DESTROY THE MATTERHORN MOUNTAIN, just change the inside and the carts....that's what i think
I believe the left side has more sharp twists and turns and the right side's more level and smooth. I know the right side goes over the bridge, and the left one takes a sickening drop right beneath it!
+all4Demi I think they changed it because of the 2 deaths that happened on the ride due to riders being stupid - i.e. not having their belts buckled or standing up.
XTheVideoGamerGirlX Oh, really? That's sad :I The bobsled rollercoaster we have over here in all have lapbar restraints, staff checks if they're closed and you can't open them yourself so people can't so stupid things.
The Matterhorn Bobsleds ride has always been a steel tube rollercoaster (In fact, it was the first steel tube rollercoaster in the world, introduced at Disneyland in 1959). It's never been a real bobsled coaster, the only bobsled is in the name.
The deaths mentioned were in 1964 and 1984, before Disneyland introduced mechanical seat belts. (i.e: Seat belts that can't be unbuckled during the ride.)
You'll be fine. I'm same height and very pooh sized and I fit. I do admit, it's not the most comfortable ride. All of the rides at Disneyland are pooh sized friendly except the swings at DCA
Thanks for showing both sides of this ride!

It was so cool cuzz they had it so you could see the yetti screaming when you went through the mountain.
Never should have taken that ride out imo. :|
PinBallReviewer they had to. The pylons holding it up started cracking. It became a safety issue and had to be removed.
All I can say is "AWESOME!!" Will be there in 2 weeks for all the new attractions! Yea!
matterhorn is awesome
I've always loved the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and I prefer the new cars to the old ones, where you practically sat on the lap of the person seated behind you.
The new sleds are actually WORSE. Never thought that was possible!
On the upside, that thing was SO ROUGH, it re-aligned my spine. Now I can cancel my chiropractor.
Got too love the Matterhorn! The easiest way for Disney to break your neck
No legroom, that sucks!!! The old ones were so much fun with a date, or even your kids, sitting basically in your lap, ahh the good old days!
+dju4ia RE those old cars. Years ago, I knew a couple that tried to have sex on the ride...emphisis on *tried* LOL
+dju4ia go to the europapark in germany haha they have that kind of ride with the old ones
one of he rougher coasters i have been on in a long time. was just there this past Jan.
gosh i always wonder why the left side was more scary! its because of the last yeti in tunnel! right one you see it but the left it blinks off and on! Xd
Is the basketball court still in the Matterhorn?
ztslovebird Yes. They even showed it on The Imagineering Story
There is a fastpass line for Radiator Springs Racers. Also, there's a single rider line as well. You can look on the Disneyland website to see all the rides that have fastpass lines.

It's not just you; I remembered Matterhorn as being one of the bumpiest roller coasters in the park!
I went about a few months ago and it felt a lot slower, I was a little disappointed but it was still fun.
+FunnyKindaGaming I went on the left side and it was faster than the right side but then I had a back cramp for the rest of the day.
The turns were slow af
Haha. At 0:17 that guy looks SO uncomfortable
COOL! I opened two screens and watched each side at the same time! Too bad I'm hearing bad reviews on the updates, I used to love this ride. I remember the single file seating in 1974.
Best ride ever
I love those new cars of the Matterhorn at 0:12

I love this ride so MUCH

about how loud is the matterhorn yeti roar because I am going next month on the first.
pretty loud you beauty
its not that loud it just sounds like about as loud as 4 dogs barking!
Ok
you might be confused with the big hills they are making that is snowy and supposed to have a castle on it...because i NEVER heard anything about a matterhorn adding to the fantasy land expansion. they are building a new rollercoaster but its snow white themed.
we were there when it was being rebuilt. but we had trouble figuring out if that was what it was supposed to loo like until we saw the fences and the people going in and out
Oh arrow, you made such great and original coasters! Farewell. :(
This way it will be more comfortable for people and it will make it easier to get on.
I'm sorry but the new bobsleds unfortunately made the ride awful and painful. They're bumpy, cramped, and they stick to the track, causing the bobsled to jolt constantly as it rides. were you in the back, the back is the bumpiest and most painful
Dante0986 I was in the second seat in the second sled, but it hurts no matter which seat you're in.
Marina Timmons you are wrong cause every seat is smooth but the last one.
I had a minor concussion from the jolting, but I still go on it. I just can't resist.
Marina Timmons I went that ride but it didn’t Hurt
When I went on but I went on the other side
This ride is brutal.
Happy birthday 4everdizneyprincess have a good time also
I had quick reflexes when my "Cactus League Spring Training Arizona" baseball cap fell off of my head on this ride. I managed to catch it just in time.

that is a VERY good question. That attraction is in need of a fastpass line. My guess is that they dont have room for a second line.
Matterhorn is SO much more fun at night. you can't see as much so it makes it more exciting.
When I saw him I was like oh he'll nah and I covered my eyes for the hole ride
Are you sure? i cant find any information saying that, But expedition Everest is based off the matterhorn and a more extreme version
Congrats, hope you had a great time ;)
What type of camera are you using? The quality is amazing for being on such a quick open ride.
What i never understood, is that the matternhorn is orginally supposed to be from switzerland/austria. right? but your supposed to encounter the "Yeti"
But the yeti is supposed to be in the himilayas, right? Expedition Everest says so, at Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida.
Disney has a weird way of contradicting themself..
Me encanta este video
Are each side different from the other
The left side is bumpier and a lot more fun in my opinion
1:29 girl is texting while riding
Texting and riding don't mix
I agree
InsideTheMagic, how does this compare? What are the pros and cons?
I haven't ridden it yet with the new sleds (because the line is always so long, even during the "off season") but it seems to be slower and less exciting. It seems like you sit higher in the sled, like in a normal seat, not down low like the old one, which I think takes some of the thrill out of it. love this ride
Always have wanted to go on this
I'm gonna be going on this ride for the first time next month, but I'm pretty sceared of drops on rides... Is this ride that bad? Cuz, I've always wanted to try it in all the times I've been to Disneyland... Thanks!!
I have never done this ride. Is it worth the wait??
My bf and I wanna go to the parks again when the crowds die down in the fall. Woulda been awesome if they kept the lapsitting. But this is nice too.
The tomorrow land track is the left, the fantasyland track is the right. And make sure to try to get in the very back! You'll get the most speed! That goes for any ride!
Arizona has castles n' coaster which is injury waiting to happen, but Orlando is AMAZING
I WENT on this ride when I went to Disneyland And One time I did one side and then when I went on it a diffrent day I went on the other day BUT THEY WERE BOTH FUN!!
Actually, if you think about it, Walt Disney World kinda does have it's version of the Matterhorn Bobsleds - Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom.
In terms of theming, I agree. In terms of ride system, I think *Space Mountain* more accurately qualifies as WDW's version of the Matterhorn since it literally uses the *exact* same style of track and very similar trains, while Expedition Everest is more like Big Thunder on Steroids.

is this supposed to be a FOMO video in addition to being a video of the Matterhorn at Fantasyland at Disneyland Park?
The water from the alpine pool really wet my beautiful skin. It's a pity that my mom didn't join us on this ride.
This is so much more convenient!
I want on the ride in 1013 and it scared me when it jerked back on the mountain while you were riding to the top
which one side do ppl prefer? fantasyland side or tomorrowland side?
Theres not much of a difference, but this one is the "Abominable Snowman." The other one is the official "Yeti."
I'm pretty sure they are the same, maybe this one is the Yeti's kid (Smaller)?
so is there any other problems for the ride involving how tall a person is?
nice video :)
when does disney usually add a fastpass line to a popular ride. like how long until they put a fastpass line in radiator springs racers
What day are you going in october? Im heading for the whole weekend of 19-21st
the Matterhorn bobsleds was the first tubular steel traced coaster that was made by arrow this company would go on to help make the amusement industry what it is today
and one more thing wich place is the best: front or back??
I'm so glad they didn't get rid of the Spanish "Remain seated please."
What side is better or funner to ride? My friends and I are going next week
left :)!!!!!!!
I've been to Disney World several times, and last year when I went to California I went to Disney Land for a day. I had always heard about this ride, but when I rode it I was disappointed because it wasn't all that great. I like Big Thunder Mountain way way better.
They have used it for Test Track in Disney World's epcot for years. :)
I does seem slower on the Fantasyland side, but sitting on the very last seat fixed that for me.
It seems to be a decent ride to me but like Space Mountain Disney seems to put the brakes on early on the downhills so they never become full thrill rides. No hands up on this one, not with those low clearances. I would ride it though.
they sure were , and in 1978 they changed them to the two sled version and it hasnt been the same since
You can here music but around the attraction of the mountain is scary because of the wind noises around it
I am SO glad they changed this lol.
can you come down on the 18th cause im heading there on the 13th and staying at disneyland till the 18th and heading back home on the 19th i live like 12 hours away
I think the loudness and squeaks are becasue of the new cars getting used to the new tracks. It should go away after some time.
What is the different (sorry can't spell) between the right and the left side
I truly madly deeply believe and want Disneyland to reconsider remaking this ride, maybe like the one in Orlando with also a Yeti? IT DOESN'T HAVE TO DESTROY THE MATTERHORN MOUNTAIN, just change the inside and the carts....that's what i think
Did they replace the track railing as well? The old one felt like the track was made out of spaghetti.
New lighting and new paint.
do they have this at disneyland paris?
Amber Scott yes
HUGE change to the ride. I hope it makes the line move faster.
Do you think one side is faster than the other?
UFO Bob To me, It looks like the left is faster.
I believe the left side has more sharp twists and turns and the right side's more level and smooth. I know the right side goes over the bridge, and the left one takes a sickening drop right beneath it!
Robert, thank you for the info.
UFO Bob . .
UFO Bob yes the left side is faster
this is what they should update the space mountain seats to, here in orlando
is ther much difference on which side you go on
trust me, ive been on this ride more then i can count, and this is for sure less squeeky and clanky than it was before
Not sure if it's the new track or the new sleds, but this ride got slower and more jerky IMO.
Always try to get on the left, the tomorrow land track is faster, rougher, and has a couple drops
But this isn't a bobsled rollercoaster, this one stays on a rail? The whole decor looks awesome though, would love to go there some day!
I haven't rode this since I was in kindergarten. That snow monster use to scare the shit out of me
Im 5'8 and Im going this saturday do you think imma fit? Im also kinda chubby...
You'll be fine. I'm same height and very pooh sized and I fit. I do admit, it's not the most comfortable ride. All of the rides at Disneyland are pooh sized friendly except the swings at DCA
Trust me, you'll fit!
i love how people dont get that its a bobsled and if you lean in the turns youll actually go faster, not by much but ever MPH counts :)
Is the ride still shakey?
It seems fun, where is this?
Veqa Christiana knotts berry farm
lol. it isnt like the "added" sunlight by chipping away at the mountain. maybe youre thinking of space mt?
