Hi Everyone. I hope you like this video and the soap. This is a great technique and produces a brilliant effect and doesn't need any special equipment. I hope you have a go at making your own ombre / gradient soap. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below and I'll get back to you.
Living on the edge you naughty lady 😂😂😂 that one made me giggle!! Can I just say that you are the best teacher! You are very thorough and you’re very clear and concise with your directions and also the explanation of why we’re doing what we’re doing ....though sadly other tutorials aren’t as thorough and I feel that it can lead to a lot of confusion when things go wrong. As always thank you so much for not only sharing your knowledge but taking the time to do so. Hope all is well my friend! XOXO
Thank you so much Amber, such a lovely comment. I'm a real believer in that you have to understand something before you can truly do it, so to me the why is always important. With the 'why' you can then take that knowledge and use it in different ways, without it you can maybe do the thing you're shown, but then that's it and you're stuck if anything is slightly different.
He, he, I knew some people would be surprised, and it would make you giggle. Mind you if my two containers were not exactly the same type of jug I would have weighed it :-)
The soaps you create are amazing. I have a soaping business in the states and pick up on new ideas every time you upload. Thank you for taking time to teach your craft.
Ah ha, excellent, you're probably not doing wrong (well unless you're doing it horizontally). maybe just not the way you need to in order to get the effect you want :-)
I haven't tried doing an ombre soap but after watching this, I feel a little more confident. You are really such a great teacher. The soap turned at just gorgeous. Thank you so much for all your marvelous tutorials.
AW that's lovely to hear, thank you so much Tracy, I really hope you do have a go at it, it's one of those techniques that seems a bit daunting as you worry about the colours and the gradient, but once you've had a go you'll be really pleased, and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment for me 😊
You are such an excellent teacher, Lisa! 🥰 Your explanations are so clear so now I will have to make that soap😉thank you very much for sharing your talent and what a beautiful soap you now have 👏👏👏♥️
Oh don't worry that's very unlikely, as I said in the video I did actually get my scale out and then thought, you actually don't need to weight this, the jugs are identical and you are splitting them evenly, also I thought it would surprise people, but you can bet if they weren't I would have weighed it :-)
Oooh great, it's a lovely fragrance and behaves well (as you can see in the video) so it should keep your batter nice and fluid. Thank you for the lovely comment Hilary
Hi Lisa, thanks so much for this video. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into explaining everything. It was really useful to see your real time stick blender use and emulsification. This video in particular pulls together several others like the ‘keep clean soaping’ and ‘master batch’ etc which is so useful. I’ve managed to troubleshoot multiple batches from watching your videos… now I just need to make some that aren’t ‘troubled’ 😂 take care, Hana
Thanks again Lisa for a beautiful soap and encouraging lesson. Your videos are a FUN education party 😻! I spoke to the screen when U split the white batter: “Lisa NEVER takes walk on the wild side!!! She always measures EXACTLY!!!” I heartily laughed when you noted the living on the edge! Cheers 👍
He, he, he, that's funny, I thought it would surprise my lovely regulars and you lot would understand :-) If I didn't have 2 matching jugs, you can bet I would have weighed it.
Lisa, these are gorgeous! I am a bit nervous to make this type of soap so I had to come to your channel to learn. You are such a good teacher! Thank you for your tips and tricks - I always learn something new :-)
Once again, your little tips are God sent. The burping and spatula movement explained. I see that my 3-dimensional thinking is so bad, bc I still don’t get the other cut 😂thank you and keep making these videos.
Thank you so much Barbara, I'm so thrilled you like the little tips. The 3d thinking is weird, I was sort of able to train my brain a bit to work out how to get what I want in soap, I remember when I did my Scream it was so hard to work out how to get things to come out as I wanted, but then it gets easier and luckily I can do it pretty well now :-)
I Dream In Soap your Scream gave me so much motivation and encouragement. I make picture soaps and that one little idea of yours to have the picture on each side of the mold solved so many problems for me. I studied that scream video. Still best soap on the internet.
Do the solid oils not harden back up when master batching them? Your tip on the little stick for adding fragrance oils is GOLD! I've wasted so much because of not knowing how to do other than pour. I absolutely love you channel and am so thankful to have happened upon it as a new soap maker! You are so sweet to share all of your experiences with us. Thank you so very much!
Hi Heather, the masterbatch oils will not harden completely as you will have soft oils in there, they will thicken a bit but you should still be a ble to just stir them up and pour off whet you need then heat slightly
Thanks Lisa, great teaching. I just realised that I love the way you start pouring at normal speed. When I have watch some soap videos when I first started soaping they went at warped speed and I felt that was the speed to do it and ended up anxious now I just take my time and relax. Cheers happy soaping.
Thanks Christine, I think it's a tricky balance sometime to not bore people with a long pour but still show enough, but yes I like to at least show the actual speed to give the right idea, the you can always speed it up later, or cut a bit of the repetition out, which is what I did for the Black Gold side.
Thanks Ally. ooh yes black and pink would be nice too, it would probably end up being shades of grey and pink though to get an ombre in the black, may you should give it a go, sounds lovely :-)
Oh my gosh that is awesome you broke it down to such a me level. I’m so going to try this. Thank you for your work it really is helping me on my soaping journey
Watching your videos are so relaxing. I really enjoy your creativeness. You are so thorough and Everything looks amazing 😍 I can’t wait to be this advanced and try some of the techniques out
Thank you. I make hot process mostly but I wanted to start making “prettier”bars. I did think sodium lactate made a harder bar in general not just initially. 🙄These tutorials are the best.
Thank you so much Tracy, I'm so pleased you found the video helpful, it makes it worthwhile making videos when people benefit from them. Stay safe and well :-)
My gosh, this is the prettiest, most consistent looking ombre soap I have ever seen! I love this double ombre method. You make things look so easy. I tend to over think it and not good. I definitely will have to try this. Love watching and couldn't wait to find out what you have put up next. Thanks for sharing. Blessings 💕
Such a calming soap to look at, I could sit and watch you all day lol, and well done for “living on the edge” I am exactly the same haha thank you Lisa
Thank you so much Tracey, he, he so wild. I think I'm just so use to working everything out precisely that I actually find it quicker to weigh than muck around pouring bits and pieces trying even jugs up, glad I'm not the only one :-)
The cut blew my mind a little. It made perfect sense when you said what you were doing, but I had such a hard time wrapping my brain around it. Way cool! This technique is very fun for sure, and these are beautiful beachy colors. 😍
Thanks Lisa .. again clear and precise and yes .. the soap makers adrenaline rush . To measure or not to measure 🤣🤣🤣🤣... life on the edge indeed ❣️❣️❣️🐝🐝🐝🌈🌈🌈☕️☕️☕️☕️
Lmbo! That’s you living on the edge?! You crack me up! I always watch your videos because you’re amazingly talented and creative...now you’re funny too! I think I’m jealous! I’m kidding, but you really are quite awesome! 😜
Tried the pouring on a little spatula and the ombré pour. One turned out better than the other! 😂 you make it look so easy! Actually I did ok on the pour but used too much td and I got glycerin rivers. Will try again!
Love the soap and the important little things you share, like stirring out the last of the bubbles after burping the stick blender. I’m going to pay more attention to stirring when I make an ombré soap tomorrow! Thank you for another great video.
Fantastic tutorial! You're able to convey so much valuable information while still keeping it light, fun and entertaining. Another awesome video!! Thanks!!!
Thanks Barbara, it's funny because I actually prefer the horizontal too, but weirdly on the cut day I was in a curly mood, so I cut most of them that way, luckily I like them both :-)
Hi Lisa, I found this super helpful, thanks. When I made a similar soap I poured at very light trace and thought it would get thicker as I added the TD soap. However the TD soap was only marginally thicker than coloured which surprised me as usually find TD thickens batter up slightly. My trace remained super fluid throughout to the point it took so long I couldn’t wait to texture top before CPOP as needed to do school run 😂 I have a batter which is 50% hard oils and use a 300mls liquid to 1000g oils. I use emulsified TD as per your video and defo had emulsification before splitting for colours (waited 1 min before splitting to double check). The humidity was wild at 95% and it was 26 degrees in my kitchen. After CPOP soap still very soft. I used goat’s milk which had a high amount of fat in for liquid portion…. So after that mammoth account…. What went wrong? Or is it just soap’s reaction to global warming?! Thank you, Hana
Hi Hana. Sorry for the delay in replying It's hard to know from your description what was going on as the way you explain it doesn't allow for any problems as you describe a process that doesn't really have errors. I would initially think that perhaps your batter wasn't fully emulsified, but you say that you're sure it was. It could have been your fragrance. Maybe one that decelerate trace. If it all set up and cut OK, then no issues. Have a look at the face of the bars. If there's an odd texture that looks a bit like Soda Ash, then that would be that your soap wasn't fully emulsified
I have been watching and following all of your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the soap making community, it’s truly wonderful! -Justin
Thank you so much Para-Dice Ranch, I'm so pleased you found the video helpful, it makes it worthwhile making videos when people benefit from them. Stay safe and well :-)
I’ve learned so much from you, and I keep going back to the videos I need. I was just going to try an ombré soap, and I’m so glad I watched your video first. Thanks, Lisa. You are a great teacher!
Hey Oksana, thanks a lot. The difficulty with a video on recipes is that it's very difficult to add any visuals to it. I would hate to just sit there and talk through the properties of oils as there are lots of resources where people can just go and read about them. To make little sample batches would be very difficult as I'd have to make so many using so many different recipes and then still just have to do a lather test or something at the end which would be unsatisfactory as I wouldn't be able to convey conditioning and other qualities. I'm just not sure how I could really do it as a video to add more value that the articles already around.
Fascinating to hear the differences between U.K. Soaping regulations and those here in Canada(pretty mich none, unless you're planning on selling, then: call your insurance company!)
Yes, it's pretty hard work here, there is so much admin involved as well, oh well, I guess it's good in a way it's just the regulations have gone completely over the top
Thanks for your tutorial is a lovely looking soap. reminds me of layers in stone. I am just wondering where you can get a mould like that from. Did you make it?
Love this, Lisa, thank you. How much of a water discount do you use? I'm trying to balance starting oil and lye temps with CPOP or no CPOP. I do want gel phase but I don't want glycerin rivers.
Thank you so much for your amazing videos. I am grateful to have found your channel. I have been researching for months and hesitant to purchase the materials. Watching your videos helped me to be more confident so I purchased my first mold! I have couple of questions though. Do you put all your soaps to the oven at 170Fah? I haven’t seen any other videos doing this, so I am not sure if you do it specifically for this type of soap. Do you cover them with a cloth before putting them in the oven or after you take them out of the oven?
Hi Ilayda, thank you so much for your lovely comment. Quite a lot of people do put their soaps in the oven, the method is known as CPOP, cold process oven process. I like all my soaps to go through gel phase, and because I do a water discount it makes it harder for your soap to do this. Less water = soap stays cooler and less likely to gel. You say you're new, so I'm not sure how familiar with 'gel' and water discounts etc. I have a video that explains all of that, not sure if you've seen it ruclips.net/video/EjqYYGaGVvw/видео.html. I set my oven to preheat to 170F. I always cover my soap, with a lid and / film, to cut down the air that gets to it as this then minimises soda ash. I turn the oven off as soon as the soap goes in and leave it in there until the next day. Hope this helps, best wishes. Lisa
Another great work from you Lisa... your tutorials are the best. I have two questions Lisa, could you please tell me where did you purchase your single soap cutter and the pink basic loaf with its wooden case? Thanks in advance .... again, well done xxx
Thank you so much Chila. The soap cutter, I made that myself and the small mould I got from a company called 'The Soap Kitchen' here in the UK, but there very easy to get even on places like Amazon etc.
Another beautiful soap and well explained. Another one for me to try 😀 I only soap at weekends so I'm definitely going to be busy for quite a while due to your inspirational work, thank you. Oh I've sent you a message on Facebook, hope you don't mind 🤗
Hi Lisa, thanks for all your videos, they are really great and super informative. I just wanted to ask about the pre-batched oils - do you heat them up like you do the lye solution so that both oils and lye are between 80-90 degreed F? Sorry if this is a basic question, just having some difficulty with acceleration which I think is because my lye solution is usually very cool at room temperature when I mix it with my oils which are around 90 degrees F. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Leonara, thank you so much for your kind comment. It's never a stupid question if you don't know the answer :-) and you are always right to ask. Yes I do warm my oils up before I use them. If your lye is very cool it's quite likely you may be getting a false trace, so they thicken within a couple of seconds with maybe no stick blending or very little. How you can tell is look at the stick blender bell when you pull it out, if the batter looks grainy then it's a false trace, if it;s nice and smooth it's emulsified. Maybe try mixing up a small amount, if it thickens fast, just leave it, and then stir it every now and again for a few minutes, if it sort of thins out and smooths out, the thickening is a false trace. It's not an issue, just be aware of it and then gently stir until it warms up a bit and thins out. Best wishes - Lisa
@@IDreamInSoap Thanks so much. I'll give that a go. Previously it's been false trace but also my last 2 batches have turned to soap before my eyes with no hope of it thinning out, I've had to quickly spoon them into the moulds. Might this be because of a water discount? Going to go back to a 33% lye solution and see if that helps slow things down as well. Thanks again.
Hi Lisa, I love your channel!! Was wondering if you could help me I lived in America and distilled water and rubbing alcohol where so easy to find but here in the UK I am having a very hard time finding either could you guide me in the right direction please? Thank you
Hi Cat, hmm rubbing alcohol, I just get mine from Amazon, I got 5l just before the whole lockdown started so it was reasonably priced. For distilled water I buy 25l at a time from here, they deliver super quick www.buydistilledwater.co.uk/
Hi Everyone. I hope you like this video and the soap. This is a great technique and produces a brilliant effect and doesn't need any special equipment. I hope you have a go at making your own ombre / gradient soap. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below and I'll get back to you.
What was the size of the silicone loaf mold you used for this soap? Ty
Hi Kimberly, my mold is 7cm wide, 8cm tall and 27cm long :-)
If that gold color would have been yellow, that would have looked like the sun shining in the corner, in a beautiful clear sky! Love this!
Yes, you are right it would have. Unfortunately for me, I can't just swap out colours on an assessed soap, but the yellow would be cool.

Hi Hana. Sorry for the delay in replying
It's hard to know from your description what was going on as the way you explain it doesn't allow for any problems as you describe a process that doesn't really have errors.
Thank you for this video. I have only just started soaping and found this very informative. I shall be watching your previous tutorials.

Yep it's bootiful
He, he, Thank you so much Karen :-)
Great tutorial. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I am wondering if you can make a video on how to formulate your soap.
I really love your videos!
Hi Dana thank you so much for your very kind comment 😊
Fascinating to hear the differences between U.K. Soaping regulations and those here in Canada(pretty mich none, unless you're planning on selling, then: call your insurance company!)
Yes, it's pretty hard work here, there is so much admin involved as well, oh well, I guess it's good in a way it's just the regulations have gone completely over the top
Beautiful!
Thank you so much Nadia Soto de Gray, that's very kind of you.
Gorgeous!!
Hi Karen thank you so much for your very kind comment 😊
Super cute!!
Hi Brooke thank you so much for your very kind comment 😊
Thanks for your tutorial is a lovely looking soap. reminds me of layers in stone. I am just wondering where you can get a mould like that from. Did you make it?
Thank you so much. My mold was from Custom Craft tools, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment for me :-)
Love this, Lisa, thank you. How much of a water discount do you use? I'm trying to balance starting oil and lye temps with CPOP or no CPOP. I do want gel phase but I don't want glycerin rivers.
Hi, I use 25% water to oils, that's about a 35% lye solution.
Amazing.
Hi Diana thank you so much for your very kind comment 😊
@@IDreamInSoap thank you so much 🙏🏻 I appreciate your help 🙏🏻 😊 👍🏻
Another beautiful soap and well explained. Another one for me to try 😀 I only soap at weekends so I'm definitely going to be busy for quite a while due to your inspirational work, thank you. Oh I've sent you a message on Facebook, hope you don't mind 🤗
Hey Jackie, that's so exciting that you're going to give it a go, hope it turns out brilliantly :-)
I Dream In Soap guess what you forgot to do.......unmould the soap out of your acrylic mould on camera ☹️
Would you use sodium lactate, in a salt bar, since those go to rock so fast?
No, there's no need, as you say they go super hard super fast
thanks for doing that
Hi Miss Sha thank you so much for your very kind comment 😊
Thank you for the tutorial!
Hi Cathryn thank you so much for your kind comment 😊
Thank you so much Lisa 💓
