      Please be extra careful in your travels at this time because of the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, wear face mask at all times, practice social distancing, bathe once you get home prior to contact with any family members... actually it would be most prudent to stay at home during these times and practice self-quarantine for at least 14days because of your history of travels.. this is to help curb the spread of the virus... also to avoid possible lockdown and being stuck in another country or away from home indefinitely...

    Your videos are the best. After watching, I decided to go solo to Everest Base camp in March. It was a tough walk at times, but so good being alone and meeting so many trekkers and locals. The weather was perfect and the trail was never busy. Trekking numbers were down from more than 500 per day to only around 20 or 30 because of the corona virus. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1:28 "independently". Having a guide and/or porter (porter-guide) does not mean you can not trek independently. Guide is not there to boss you around and tell what to do, he is a helper, fixer, interpreter, consultant, teacher maybe, even a friend. It is common misunderstanding that having a guide means he sets the pace and route, that is only true if joining a fixed group. If you go yourself it is still possible to hire staff and make all decisions yourself. I have trekked this way 10 times for a total of 11 month in Nepal and the guide never told me what to do.
    6:12 If you are hiking the Annapurna Circuit there is no point in going to Pokhara first, because the starting point is about half way between Kathmandu and Pokhara. You just loose one day bussing around unnecessarily.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  4 года назад +9

      I'm really not sure about that, but six years old seems pretty young. I would look into it further and see if you can get info from other people who have gone trekking with young kids. My best suggestion would be to look into one of the short treks like Poon Hill, near Pokhara. It only takes a couple days. I can't imagine trying to hike to the Annapurna or Everest base camps with a child that young. It seems like it would be too tough for them and also frustrating for you to have to walk so slowly for that many days. But hey, I don't have kids so what do I know.

      Beyond that, how much of the trip will the youngster recall about the trip in the future?

    Wouldn't your hotel cost in Kathmandu double for the additional time to adjust to the altitude even if you were going no higher than a mountain base camp, which is still pretty high? I'm assuming when you went to Nepal from San Francisco you would spent at least week or two in Kathmandu before you started your trek. In most cases these are mountain climbers going to the top of Everest, but still I assumed even trekkers along the foothills had to adapt to the elevation by waiting out time. Did you?

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  4 года назад

      The highest point of the Langtang trek is about 4,000 meters or 13,000 feet. That isn't that high. You can easily acclimatize in the course of the trek. Of course it depends on the person. But you don't necessarily need to stay in Kathmandu for a week. There's tons to see there so it's a good idea to stay for a week just to explore around the area, but it isn't necessary for acclimatization.

      @minemilx2702 4 года назад

      @@cjay2 I'm obviously not looking to get rich there, but I am certain that Nepal has decent potential. There are already locals that live off it with really primitive gear. All I would need is a folding shovel, a gold pan and a snuffer bottle. Maybe a classifier. Something as simple as that would already surpass the gear that the locals use. Besides, even if I don't find much it is still lots of fun.

    • @cjay2
      @cjay2 4 года назад

      @@minemilx2702 If you've never been to Nepal and its mountains, you should go first without that gear. It's enough work just surviving comfortably every day. You won't have time or energy for gold panning. The altitude and the climate will limit your ability to do anything more than trekking. I think he decided to take a break before shit got really bad, but I have to admit that it was really good timing...

      Just lucky timing. I planned to come back and take a break for a while and then the virus hit.

    It is very difficult/uncomfortable to listen to this video. With all the bird sounds and the wind coming in. It would be amazing if you could up your sound quality just a little bit! Same goes for your crazy airport story that I just watched. For example use a Røde Wireless Go. I dont usually give advice like this and i hate to be that person. Sry! But I think your videos would benefit a lot from it. Thanks for the great Nepal info! Cheers!
