It’s cool that the dlc continues the design philosophy that incantations are pretty cool and varied and sorceries are just the same three spells fourteen different ways
Almost all incantations lock you in place for some grandiose animation that leaves you highly vunerable. Any high level player will just run up on you and smash you while casting almost all these. Sorceries are just way more interesting and fun to play with because they are fast and there are tons of combos you can throw out with spells like magic downpour and magic glintblade that have a delayed attack.

I'm honestly depressed over this. No blackflame means we don't get any lore about the GEQ and the Godskin. Which is strange considering their importance and Miyazaki's comment on the godskin. We also don't get any sleep incants.

I think light of Miquella is gonna be the biggest problem. The AOE and range is massive. Invaders are just not gonna be able to deal with phantoms with melee anymore.

@@mR_pARADOXX it applies rot so it's far from useless. im guessing it's the more potent form of rot like Malenia's bloom or ezkzyke's breath... so that means every enemy vulnerable to rot gets hit with a hefty ~30% total max hp damage on the full duration... it can single handedly carry a whole fight if you manage to actually hit the enemy with it. Rot + Blade of Death or Black Flame can decimate pretty much anything in the game.
Spell sucks; hardly applies rot and it has the wind up of Placiddidax’s Ruin ffs. The balance of these new spells is absurd. Quick spells do heaps of damage and long wind up spells hardly do anything. Utterly backwards.
I mean it makes no sense, st trina is in the dlc, got a whole ass quest, a small area, entire npc and model, its PART OF MIQUELLA FFS and yet no incantations, no spells, no new weapons (the sword is a literal copy of st trinas sword from base and the fist weapon is ass), such a major fucking let down

Sleep ccs normal enemy units and staggers bosses (since it would too op if they actually fell asleep) if they are not resistant, its useful just in a different way, and if frenzy has incantations, which does not proc at all unless its invasions or pvp, why not sleep?

Of the incantations I've found so far (no, I haven't found them all yet) by far and away my favorite is Knight's Lightning Spear. Just about everything that made Lightning Spear in the base game good is improved. It's fast. It's reliable. Multiple projectiles add about as much more punch as you'd expect. And off-handing the Gravelstone Seal with lightning cracked tear AND Lightning Scorpion talisman? Yeah. This. Thing. SLAPS.
It’s way more FP hungry than base Lightning Spear, though, and its damage isn’t so much more that it justifies the cost I hope they rebalance it, because it’s way too costly to justify atm, imo My favourite is the Fire Serpent or whatever it’s called, it’s fast, it’s cheap, and it has a slight delay before the projectile fires, a bit like Magic Glintblade (so enemies that input read and dodge still get hit!), and its tracking is really, really good. I love baiting enemies with greatshields (really annoying for caster builds to deal with) to rush me, I fire off one of these and roll backwards, and it nails them from behind where the shield does nothing :D . Works great in PvP too!
@@mduckernz I respectfully have to disagree with you on the damage to FP ratio. I'm running with 40 Mind, 80 Int, and ~73 Faith using a maxed Golden Order Seal and the damage this thing consistently deals is just too much to ignore. I won't go so far as to say it trivialized Mother of Fingers; the thing still hit like a truck and took me a good few tries. But when it went down, it went down FAST. No spirit ashes needed either. Don't get me wrong though. If they do end up lowering the FP cost, that just makes it all the better. Furthermore, I don't know why this is and my gut tells me it'll be patched out at some point, enemies one would expect to dodge this spell like other spells just don't for some reason. That said, I don't disagree with you at all about Fire Serpent being good. While I wouldn't touch pvp with a 10-foot pole, that spell (and the Mimic Tear I'll admit) got me through Commander Gaius. It isn't one to sleep on.
@@SZMarcos It's Ghostflame! Ghostflame is one of the most damaging abilities in the game. It also builds up frost!! Plus it looks extremely cool. FINALLY... something that can go along with the Death's Poker. It crushed that troll faster than any other incantation used.

Been rocking my full crucible knight build in pvp since the dlc came out ...love being finally able to chain their full movesets and even upgrade it with the milady moveset and crucible wings ash of war paired with all crucible incantations
Dragons got some really good stuff, more incentives for arcane builds. Damn you get the giant flower spell, woooo full crucible set for the win. Plus frenzied builds just getting the best spell ever that's nice for them. Milania wrath of scarlet butterflies, wooo very cool.
Some spells seem miscategorised by the devs for example multi-layer rings of light isn't a gold order spell, but it's literally the exact same as every other rings of light spell. So there will be some strange talsiman dmg stacking going on where spells that should be buffed aren't. Till we get a dlc patch anyway.
I adore all the new fire ashes of war. The dread dragon, messmir and dread flame spells look so badass. I’m going to make a dragon/ flame knight build. That focuses all it’s their power on fire attacks and spells. Messmirs abilities and dread dragon flames I wonder if I can combo other spells with it~
The animation to summon the Divine Beat Tornado makes me think that was supposed to be an ash of war and got changed at the last second (or was actually completely mislabeled in the code and will be patched later)
A lot of these are not only much cooler than the new sorcery spells, they also seem to maybe have a practical use and not purely be a visual remix of existing magic
Are the new catalysts bugged or just trash? All the ones I've found are sub-200 spell buff at max upgrade with what should be good stat set up for them
I know this is going to sound crazy but given how high you have to use light of miqullia I feel it should be stronger especially with a Faith requirement of 72 and the wind up. Like there's other incantations that seem more effective
To be honest they are visually very cool but most of them useless because their damage is mediocre. Most of the main game incantations way more better than them. Only Knight's lighting spear and multilayered ring of light have good damage. I tried them at 80 faith against multiple enemy type.
I really wish we got the other aspects of the crucible, I know there's wings as an ash but it would've been nice in spell form too, not to mention the other notable one that I won't spoil but you'll know it when you see it 🔨🐎👀
Haven't got the dlc yet, i always main sorcerers but jeez the variety and potency of incantations for faith builds has converted me. We get lightning, fire, holy, physical, magic damage types and plenty of debuffs and buffs too. Sorcieries just got some more projectiles :/

The new sword buffs your offhand also. So you can in turn make any weapon a sleep buffed weapon in offhand and then 2 hand it.

The animation to summon the Divine Beat Tornado makes me think that was supposed to be an ash of war and got changed at the last second (or was actually completely mislabeled in the code and will be patched later)

I’d be upset there’s only 1 new arcane incant but it looks so cool I guess it will do.
A lot of these are not only much cooler than the new sorcery spells, they also seem to maybe have a practical use and not purely be a visual remix of existing magic

I know this is going to sound crazy but given how high you have to use light of miqullia I feel it should be stronger especially with a Faith requirement of 72 and the wind up. Like there's other incantations that seem more effective

To be honest they are visually very cool but most of them useless because their damage is mediocre. Most of the main game incantations way more better than them. Only Knight's lighting spear and multilayered ring of light have good damage. I tried them at 80 faith against multiple enemy type.
My crucible build can't wait to try those new aspect incantation. I don't see the wing charge. Is that a weapon skill?

is it just me or do most of the new spells do very low damage compared to base game ones?
Haven't got the dlc yet, i always main sorcerers but jeez the variety and potency of incantations for faith builds has converted me. We get lightning, fire, holy, physical, magic damage types and plenty of debuffs and buffs too.
Sorcieries just got some more projectiles :/
