    Most of the guys doing "rebuilds" on youtube are replacing plastic clips and painting fenders. This is an actual rebuild. I am enjoying this.

  • @cody900
    @cody900 6 лет назад +3

    Looks like an easy fix, new valves, check the guides out, re lap valves and boom. Depending on how bad the rust is on the cams u might be able to save them aswell, guessing there not stock so it might be worth it. Some wd-40 and like 1000-2000 grit will do nicely on lite rust.

    Ah yea, that engine and head are fine! Re-hone the walls and rebuild the head. Being an interference style engine, it is not surprising the valves are bent, if the timing belt popped. I am interested in the main bearings and rods, how do those look? Are you planning on sending it out to have both block and head resurfaced, new valves and seats, or going to do it in house? Love the videos man, have a good week! And STAY HYDRATED! The heat is here to stay :)

    • @AlvinBrinson
      @AlvinBrinson 6 лет назад

      There's arguments about whether this is actually an interference engine... I keep seeing that it's not, but the valves might crash into each other if the cam freewheels... Of course being a stroker, there might be less clearance than stock.

    • @kevinknabe7252
      @kevinknabe7252 6 лет назад +6

      Stock 2.4 turbo is non interference.

    • @92powerdiesel61
      @92powerdiesel61 6 лет назад +1

      I have a 2.4l but it doesn't have a turbo, the timing belt ate it's self and works just fine.

    • @thatneonchannel
      @thatneonchannel 6 лет назад +1

      TheTexasCoder 2.4 are actually non interference but the 2.0 is a interference engine

    My transmission is sitting alongside the car right now, thought we had a bad throw out bearing or clutch, ended up being the 4th gear, needle bearing went kaput! Rebuilding now, not quite the horsepower yours will have, running 350 hp, but still very very fun and until this little tranny issue, was very very reliable.

    Just in case you might know this. But if the rust build up is too much and you have to have the crank turned. That crank for the 2.6L is a turned down stock crank and is ion nitride treated. You might want to contact DCR and find out if it will need to be re-treated if it is turned. It will fail if it losses its coating/hardness. Just something to think about.

    • @frigglebiscuit7484
      @frigglebiscuit7484 6 лет назад

      the ion nitride is just on the surface/ i bet the entire crank is still hardened.

    • @JohnColeman-ul5rj
      @JohnColeman-ul5rj 6 лет назад

      Frigglebiscuit it is a friction reducing treatment. So if that is ground off, then rhe crank will fail. Just a quick call to DCR to save a $7500 motor would be worth it IMO!

    • @frigglebiscuit7484
      @frigglebiscuit7484 6 лет назад

      john coleman I highly doubt that. if that's all that is saving the crank from being scored, then I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

  • @alltheboost5363
    @alltheboost5363 6 лет назад

    I wouldn't say that's toast at all I would soak everything that shows rust with ATF let it sit carefully cleaned everything like you said to a light hone. I think it would be good to go. There's a good chance you might be able to bring those cams back depends on the scoring that you find underneath the rust.

  • @doctordifferentialspeedsho9506
    @doctordifferentialspeedsho9506 6 лет назад

    I’d think the valves hit the pistons. It would have had to get a lot of water in it to bend valves and typically break connecting rods. I’d think the timing belt broke, probably bad tensioner, and valves hit each other. Those are non interference engines, but valves and make contact with other valves.

  • @rev9fan1
    @rev9fan1 6 лет назад

    Fellow SRT4 owner here, 2004 with 31k miles 2nd owner...I subscribed, very interested in what the future holds for this car...I'm actually curious how the hell water got into the engine, that wouldnt have anything to do with a timing belt snap. I mean I understand water in the Focus because it was flooded, but this car isn't a flood damaged car is it?

    • @RebuilderGuy
      @RebuilderGuy  6 лет назад

      valve cover was removed hood is vented car was standing outside for at least 2 years

    I'm going to guess this isn't a zero clearance engine and wouldn't be surprised if you bent the valves when hand cranking it in Part 1 and getting that nice sludge pop with the cam belt missing.

    Why would anyone even say that block is toast? Lol block looks fine to me nothing a swift hone can’t fix!! . As for the one cylinder that has the marks, to me that looks like when engine was built might has been a over bore to get out some deep scratches and what not
