      For the most part I agree with you. In a situation like this, or movie remakes, we (people in general) tend to latch onto what we knew first as, the "real thing".
      That idea holds so well for me with this series. I knew the movies before the books.
      And so Dale's readings had built in latch on appeal, as several of his voices seem heavily based on actors from the movies, which provided an immediate familiarity.
      Add into that, I am North America based so I was largely excluded from the Fry audio books until very recently.
      But, we occasionally revisit the audio books while on extended bits of driving, and it is fun that there is a new player in our old game of, "I like the way they did this part better in...: movies vs. books"
      Not always a straight line comparison since obviously the story itself does not translate exactly from book to movie.
      Still, it is a fun diversion at times and, "film vs. Dale vs. Fry" promises hours of rainy day silliness ahead.

    Hey man, first of all, I don't usually comment but I love your content and your videos, specially the way you edit them with moving images related to the fantasy story and world you are usually talking about. I would like to know where do you get these types of images? I know sometimes you just have an art of the world with some filter along with it (for example snow if the art is displaying a snowy landscape) but I know sometimes it's just the art itself that is moving like a GIF (like the one of the Stromlight Archive that you used in this video).
    Hope you can answer to my question. Anyways, I am very happy with this piece of news and agree with most of your points about the audio formats. I also love the Jim Dale alot more because I also think he has a more range than Stephen Fry. I do love Stephen Fry, he is a wonderfull feller. I just prefer Jim's voices and ambience at the end of the day.

    • @CapturedInWords
      @CapturedInWords  2 месяца назад +2

      I get most of the artwork from Artstation :) then I add in the movement and overlays of snow, fire, dust, or particles etc.
      Sometimes in after effects I'll make a slideshow with the art with ink drop transitions, parallax effects, or other stuff. But for the artwork that is actually animated like a gif, I just find it online. For instance the Stormlight Archive art is an animated wallpaper that I found on reddit: www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/cpv8bc/animated_wallpaper_the_way_of_kings/
      Hope that helps!

    This is big news, especially for kids just coming to it. It’s pretty amazing that they’ll have a full cast AND the sound effects. I’ll have to make sure to get both the Dale and Fry versions. I too was sneaking and listening to the Jim Dale version for that same reason. 😂 I prefer Jim Dale’s overall narration and voices(and that’s how all the characters sound in my head), but Stephen Fry’s voice just feels like a warm blanket and cup of tea. I will definitely be listening to the new ones, though. Say what you want about Rowling, this series changed the world. I was a teen when it started and didn’t start them until my senior year of high school. I’ve been a huge reader my entire life, but I’d never read anything like it before. Harry Potter and Percy Jackson were how I discovered that I loved middle grade fiction, even though I was way out of the demographic by then.

    • @nitzeart
      @nitzeart 2 месяца назад

      I get your nostalgia, I know it hurts, but Harry Potter isn't even that great of a series and we can't keep supporting it. Did it change the world? Sure. But we can't keep prete ding we can separate art from the transphobic author Rowling and her influence in politics anymore when it's actively harmful to a group of marginalized people. There are better books to read for young kids nowadays AND for adults who grew up with Harry Potter. Examples: Nevermoor, Witchlings, Hedgewitch, Not Your Sidekick, Ghost Squad, When You Trap a Tiger, Amari and the Night Brothers, etc., or even some other classics of the time, like percy jackson.
      You can even look up the own-voices initiative by Riordan himself, where he highlights Middle grade books written by marginalized authors.

    • @Tinahgirl83
      @Tinahgirl83 2 месяца назад +2

      @@nitzeart No, YOU can’t separate the art from the artist. I am perfectly able to. If it makes you uncomfortable, don’t read it. But I’m an adult and I can read what I choose by any author I choose. I have read and enjoyed the other series as well. J K Rowling’s opinions are just that, her opinions. Your opinions are yours. Mine are mine. You also need to learn what active harm is. She’s not holding anyone at gunpoint, she’s just talking. She hasn’t, to my knowledge, physically attacked anyone. Just stop listening to her, if her opinions upset you. You can actively prevent yourself from ever reading or hearing anything she says. Or do what I do, and live your life without being so chronically online that someone merely saying things you don’t like equates to actual harm to you. And stop giving imperfect authors the power to affect your feelings. There is nothing she can say that will affect my world opinions. She is one of 8.5 billion people. In the large scheme of things, none of our opinions, including yours, have that much weight in the world. You’d be astonished at how easy it is to mind my own business and let other people think what they want. I’m a Black woman in America. Someone can say the most racist thing in the world, and it’s not going to affect my sense of self or my opinions. They’re entitled to their opinion, even if I don’t agree. Their opinion has nothing to do with me. Someone you don’t know saying something you don’t like doesn’t equate to physical harm, and it shouldn’t equate to emotional harm either. Acting like it does is an insult to and dismissive of people who actually are victims of abuse.

    • @nitzeart
      @nitzeart 2 месяца назад +1

      @Tinahgirl83 My guy, I've read Orson Scott Card* I'm perfectly capable of separating the art from the artist if I want to. But Rowling and her friends are actively pushing discriminatory politics in the UK. Which WILL influence the rest of the world. Have fun not having empathy tho

    • @Tinahgirl83
      @Tinahgirl83 2 месяца назад +2

      @@nitzeart I’ll do you the courtesy of actually addressing what you said, though you ignored most of my comment in favor of the one idea you chose to fasten on.
      1. You tell me you read Orwell, but apparently what you read didn’t leave any sort of impression on you, as you’re basically attacking me based solely on the fact that I don’t have the same opinion on reading a book as you do. Animal Farm and 1984 are both largely about the problems that come when people in society are no longer allowed to think for themselves and are forced into conformity to one set of ideals or another. You use all the current catchphrases, and ignore basically everything else I said to fasten on one thing. The words groupthink and doublethink come to mind, as does the sentiment that your thought is correct and anyone who doesn’t think as you do is completely wrong. You have the perfect freedom to pick and choose to read from authors you deem problematic, while in the same sentence telling me I’m wrong for doing exactly that same thing, because I’m not doing it the way you want. How do you not see the hypocrisy? “Rules for thee, but not for me.” I would also direct you to Fahrenheit 451. That, mixed with both Animal Farm and 1984, as well as critical thinking and analysis will hopefully impress on you that there should be no room for hive mind or “Big Brother” type thinking, where the other person is wrong and needs to be policed/controlled simply because they don’t agree with you on how to handle a situation. They don’t agree with your actual opponent either, but that part doesn’t matter because all you’re concerned about is perfect conformity to the group you’re a part of. You throw certain words at people and expect them to just fall in line with what your ideologies are.
      2. I will refer you to my previous comment. I do not let random strangers in the internet tell me what to think or how to live. I go out into the world and interact with real people and form my opinions based on person to person interactions. I don’t immediately write off a person if they say something I don’t agree with. I don’t lump all people of one kind or another into one group of either right or wrong based solely on whether or not they have the same opinions as me. I listen to what others feel and think, put that together (or sometimes not) with what I feel and think and then I move through the world accordingly, while treating others in the way that I would wish to be treated - with basic respect and the freedom to think what I want. You don’t know me, you don’t know anything at all about me except that I’m a Black American woman and I don’t have a problem reading Harry Potter. Here’s what I noticed about you - You make snap judgments about people’s entire lives and personalities based on whether or not they agree with you about reading. You don’t see that you reading Orwell while criticizing me for reading Rowling is talking out of both sides of your mouth (doublethink). You think you’re better than me so you, like any other bully, condescend to me by calling me “my guy” as if we’re teenagers (“four legs bad, two legs good”), and have what you think is a “mic drop,” by telling me to enjoy having no empathy. You think that pushing a political decision will derange the entire world, ignoring that people are surprisingly resilient and that laws - both government and social - can change (which you should know, given how many have changed in just the past few years based on whatever the current trend is) or that making something illegal has never stopped that thing from being done. (ex: Slavery still exists worldwide, even though it’s illegal, but nobody ever talks about that atrocity. Prohibition didn’t work either. Groups of people that others sought to stamp out, for religious or social reasons, still are here ) You act like your ideals don’t also involve controlling not just people’s behavior but even what they think, the same as other political groups do (again, Big Brother-esque censorship). You’re all for freedom and free thought as long as it’s exactly aligned with how you think it should be. If it isn’t then it’s wrong. You don’t appear to be any more open-minded or willing to have an open discussion than any other political group - which is to say, you aren’t at all.

It’s actually really good. If you subscribe to audible on the lowest tier I pay like 7.50 a month or something and get a credit every other month. For 15 you get a credit every month. There are higher tiers with more credits too. It’s a great value for consumers. This is going to be a touchy subject for a lot of people, so lets be aware that fighting amongst ourselves isn't helping anything. You're not a bad person for enjoying these stories, JK is bad for using her platform to spread hate. It's unfortunate we live in a time where she'll get support regardless of whether or not we agree. Remember she is not her art, and whether or not SHE likes it these stories have enraptured and uplifted people in ALL communities not just the ones she supports. She may get the money, but the story isn't hers anymore it's what we make of it. Don't spread the hate, let it fester in its corner until it eats itself alive. You can love Harry Potter, but actively paying for new content is just not ok anymore. You can't pretend it doesn't affect real people. You can't pretend giving money to the harry potter franchise doesn't support a bigot. You're giving her more money for her to be more powerful and keep influencing harmful politics. You can't separate these two things anymore. It's sad but it's time to grow up.

    • @Mel-sn5dl
      @Mel-sn5dl 2 месяца назад +3

      @@nitzeart She already made her money, not enough people are going to stop paying and even if they did it wouldn't have enough impact on her. Her and people like her are beyond any reproach because of wealth and the power it holds in the world at large, and its unfair and unrealistic to put it on the victims of that system to change such a deep rooted and systemic problem like this. There are other things, more effective ways to face the problem as a whole rather than shameing people out of enjoying a formative piece of their lives. And JK isnt the only one getting paid, there's a whole host of talent putting good work into these things that deserve compensation. And worse comes to worse, not advocating this of course, but there are less scrupulous ways of obtaining this stuff assuredely which negates this whole argument. My comment wasn't about where people should spend their money but about not shameing people for enjoying art just because the artists happens to be a shitty person. If you're running around the internet making people feel bad and telling them to "grow up" because you can't differentiate the problem from the victim, then you're no better than her and have your own growing to do. I wish you well regardless.

      You just watched neutral coverage of Harry Potter. It is entirely possible to have a negative opinion on the author and her views while enjoying her work. I'm sure you will disagree, but it remains true regardless. Not everyone has to participate in every cause.
      If you don't want to support the author and her work, then don't. But you have no right to tell others what to do. If you don't like it, then you don't have to watch.

Good for you that you don't care to be labeled a bigot. People who are actual allies and empathetic care tho.

      @enie6359 And lots of people are still getting new Harry Potter tattoos, not to mention the profits of Potter merch and books rising. So, by actual measurable metrics and not annecdotal evidence, it's definitely still as, if not more, popular than ever. That's why things like this Audible dramatisation are being commissioned.
      Just because your stance is that supporting Harry Potter makes you complicit in JK Rowling's bigotry doesn't make it true.

      @@robertgronewold3326 The fact that your first response is literally the Ad Populum fallacy. Yes, yes you are. Listen I am not knocking trash per se, there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking trash. The error here, and it's an error that a lot of people make, is the belief that "I am good. I like a thing. Therefore that thing is good.". And that is frankly just dumb. Further it's actually dangerous.
      Harry Potter is a special kind of trash. What made Harry Potter "good" was never the books which are from a story and prose perspective mid at best. Like Star wars, Lost, Sherlock, Pokemon, etc, it was the fandom around it.
      Media Literacy is important. Liking something doesn't make it good. Disliking something doesn't make it bad. Liking trash doesn't make you trash. Not liking trash doesn't make you superior. *Everybody* likes trash, get over it. What is important is not if you like trash or not, but what kind of trash you like, and even more important than that if you can recognize it as trash.
      I will ask you the same question I have asked thousands (literally) of Harry Potter fans before. Why do you think Harry Potter is *good*? To be clear I am not asking why you like it, I am asking why you think its good as a work of fiction. Give me something concrete "The character of Harry Potter is written well with a dynamic personality." "The world building is well thought out." "It's an engaging social commentary".
