Martin Gore, Dave Gahan, RIP Andrew Fletcher,
Well said Seph! Losing Alan was big but DM carried on, moved forward and did a great job for 20 years without him. They kept what they were really about, I'm sure you are finding that every album has such a different sound from the other because they never wanted to get stale or to be stuck in time. They were that way with Alan and without Alan. I'm glad you are keeping an open mind and and moving forward, you won't be disappointed. Admittedly, some albums are better than others as a matter of taste but it will be an amazing journey!
When you've got time Seph, there's a video on RUclips of Martin singing this song while he's putting make-up for a show. It's brilliant.
I admire how he can do both at the same time 😂
Oh my goodness that’s a classic!! 😅
Can't wait for Exciter! Great album too, it's very different from EVERYTHING they have done, the way to describe it would be " The intimate and delicate side of Depeche Mode " (just like the documentary). The songs are all very zen (excluding the Dead of Night), very calm and very beatiful. I get why people don't like that much, since it is very mellow and maybe not as rocky as people would want, but if you want something more energetic, go listen to Violator! Exciter is there when you need to relax. I love it.
I agree! They called exciter an "experimental" album. Not sure what that means because in my opinion every DM album is so different from each other you could call them all "experimental" in nature!
Exciter's got some good songs. I listen to Goodnight Lovers every night, and I don't get tired of it.
I would add " I feel loved " to the list of up-tempo songs aswell 😊
@@SkyeIDfalling leaf. Mix ❤
I’m glad you’re forming your own opinion about DM’s newer songs. Some of us Devotees have been begging for you to react to Surrender and now you know why. Dave’s smooth, sultry voice, the sexy, blusey melody and those enticing lyrics. This is one track I can easily put on repeat. To believe this is a B side!!
It's not often we get a Depeche Mode song in 6/8 time signature. It creates such a beautiful tension and unease to this sensual slow burner of inescapable carnal desire. Martin's tremolo guitar is a real highlight of the track. It adds a mysterious old American western and blues feel. Fantastic.
(9:45) This bit where you talk about listening to Depeche Mode while you're walking, "grooving out in the gym," and driving is great. "I got 'Blasphemous Rumors' blasting in my car yesterday." I love it! It paints such a vivid picture of a slice of your daily life and how your exploration of the band has brought you joy.
Before starting with Exciter you must react to their live in Cologne. Dave's voice is so strong. Here you can find the best live version of Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence. And of course Never Let Me Down Again where you can see Dave smiling after his bad years of drugs. That live is mindblowing. Seph, trust me, you don't want to miss this live.
Even better is when martin does it! ruclips.net/video/Rgq9AcAWhyY/видео.html Whilst putting on his makeup for a show even.
Such a good concert
Tis amazing Dave could sing with such clarity after his drug episode. Credit to him.
I love the Martin's final part chorus🎉
I've heard Martin sing this song way back during his solo tour in 2003, and I heard in an interview that this is his favorite song. You know I love when Martin sings his own songs usually, but I prefer it when Dave sings this song. With this song, Dave brings something to the table that Martin doesn't. His voice is so full of yearning, and it just drips sensuality in every note.
This song is a masterpiece I agree, one of my favorites: sultry, sexy, unique
This is song that makes Depeche Mode so unique. Triplet feel, sensual sense, dark theme, great arrangement and creepy sounds, beautiful melodies and sense of melancgoky 😉👍😄...
A very good DM Reaction.👍👍👍👍👍
Barrel of a Gun is one of the best Depeche Mode songs.☝
I have also been a big fan of Depeche Mode since 1990, but in the last few years I have been fascinated by the talent and voice of the young singer.
Check out her performance of a Depeche Mode cover.
Diana Ankudinova - Personal Jesus.
I never took the time to really listen to this until a couple of years ago. That's the amazing thing about their giant catalogue, there's always something new to rediscover.
I'm pretty sure Martin has named this as one of his favorite DM songs.
We’re living in a world full of illusion/ everything is so unreal
Love this part of the song.
Aint that the truth
I saw Martin sing this one at the Hard Rock in Vegas, it was amazing!!!
Tolle Reaktion, vielen Dank.
i LOVE this song. just discovered it a few weeks ago. for me this song could be on SOFAD. it always reminds me of that album. and at first i thought this is another instrumental. would‘t been bad either :)
To be honest I think this review is spot on. This song is dark and dirty and captivating AND anything that gives you goosebumps is a treasure. Thanks for sharing this, more importantly THANK YOU FOR BEING ✌️
Love It that you Love This Too, LOL!!! WE WILL NOT STEER YOU WRONG SEPH! I loved this one too plus OWILM! So glad you are forming your own opinion regarding post-Alan Wilder Depeche Mode music. Good Man! Keep Your Mind and Your Ears open. Like I've said, each album has its own vibe/sound and some you'll like/love and other not so much. Taste is Subjective. They are still Depeche Mode...always changing-evolving. Just a heads up, the next album "EXCITER" is pronounced EX-SIGHT-UR my friend (I made the mistake too and had to be corrected!) LOL! Cheers!!
BTW .... the "chorus switch-up" later in the song (sung slower) is sung by Martin. Also, Exciter is many songs with "Love" in the title and is a distinct departure from 1997's ULTRA. Unlike anything you've heard yet!!!! All Good Stuff Man!
Ok ex sight uh gotcha 😊
Great reaction again seph. One of the b sides that should be an a side. There is an unofficial vidio of this but may be a bit smutty for some. Also they seem to be doing quite well without Alan for the past 30 years 😂😂😂. I have tried to get into his recoil stuff but failed
My favorite dm's song...
Omg another favorite! Been waiting for your reaction to this. Here we go...
You will love Dream On and Freelove from Exciter 😊
I will put it in my playlist. Great song.
Love this song❤
I love Martin singing this one!
You should listen to the demo version of this song where Martin sings it
Every album has songs you will come alive to and hear as a soaked in soundtrack for the rest of your life.
Enjoy.
Thank you for the series.
Great song , banger ❤
Is it one you have played often?
surrender is in my favorite DM playlist
I really like your attitude not letting yourself being influenced by the comments. I am a huge Alan Fan. But on Ultra and also on surrender I do not miss him. But I must also admit that I often got disappointed by their 21st century work. Although I even like this work, too. But not as much as their 20th century stuff.
I just saw that you‘ve passed the 10.000 subscribers. Congratulation!
Thank you 😊
Keep waiting for One Night In Paris, where this song was performed (but as bonus track). Too good for B-side, but too different to be on Ultra. They could go with it as the second single after Only When I Lose Myself, but they couldn’t.
Look around and you should find a version of Martin singing this backstage as he puts his eye liner on before a show

Exciter is the Album where you notice it the most that Alan is gone. But its still a great record in my opinion.
The upcoming albums are not as good as "Violator" or "Songs of Faith and Devotion" but are still very good albums!
There are plenty of great songs on each of them. But it's near impossible to top those two albums though....
If i had to rate the albums in a 1-10 scale.....
Speak & Spell - 6
A Broken Frame - 6
Construction Time Again - 6
Some Great Reward - 7
Black Celebration - 9
Music for the Masses - 8
Violator - 10
Songs of Faith and Devotion - 10
Ultra - 7
Exciter - 6
Playing the Angel - 7
Sounds of the Universe - 6
Delta Machine - 8
Spirit - 6
Memento Mori - 9
Just nu opinion.....
Memento Mori is splendid
Told you this was a hidden treasure!
"Surrender", the b-side of the "Only When I lose myself" single.
"Surrender" was the first exclusive vocal B-side since "My Joy" in 1993 from the "Walking in My Shoes" single. - Only instrumental "interludes" as b-sides between 1993-1998.
A perfectly ok song. But it's still remarkable that Martin long considered this song to be his favorite Depeche Mode song...
I like the sound of the few songs that were produced and released between Ultra and Ecxiter.
Yep, one more track. Alan's absence will be felt more and more in the next albums...
Its not about Alan , its all about age. And well playing the ángel and the last one mm are bloody good
I don't want to create your expectations, but if you liked it, I think you'll like Exciter too.
Well, I love this song but dislike Exciter, what now?😅
@@Simon-fl1tl Nothing happens to me Exciter and Sounds of the Universe are the ones I like the least but there are still some songs that I like within those two albums
❤This song is a pure perfection to me. Why this one wasnt on official album?
Please will you do Exciter, their next album, as well?
Ah just heard it in the end 😀 Thank you!
Did you noticed that the last lines are sung by Martin right?
I actually didn't notice that!! Bloomin heck nope!
Do they play this one live?
Martin has done Surrender on past tours, don’t think Dave ever sung it live.
There is also a beautiful version when Martin sings the song in his dressing room.

@@SephPlays Yep, in 2001 Martin performed it on his acoustic set, later on 2003 he (martin) performed it on his solo tour fully electronic (and i don't know why on earth Martin didn't save his keyboard settings to play it later with DM)... in 2005 DM recorded it as an almost acoustic for the extras for the Playing the Angel album (known as the "bare versions"... i think this one even includes Flectch playing bass) and after that, sadly this track was forgotten
This is a pieco of "Seducción, and erotic feeling, from the DM DARKNES way to feel the music",,,,,
I thank you for making me appreciate it, I like it a lot.. can anyone tell me if the final part is sung gore?
100% yes
❤
It is funny but to me the instrumentals don't sound much different than the mood of Ultra, but to each their own. I think this is a great B-side to Only When I lose Myself and always got a lot of listens from me. It is going to be curious on your feelings from this point forward album wise, don't get me wrong I still have favorites after but the sound does change from the Alan days ,none more so than Excitor.
Last part singing Martin.
Surrender is the best DM song.
DM has never been a hit and miss for me... And I told you before, that DM after Alan is not going down at all.
Great song. Please before you continue to exciter, look at the hammersmith 1982 live concert.
It`s a brilliant track. Martin has said in past interviews that it`s his fav. Yep don`t believe that everything with Alan was amazing and everything without him is rubbish. that is just rubbish, in It`Self.
surrender not sale en el Ultra
