I'm not necessarily new, I've been crocheting since March, but I've yet to finish a project. I'm currently working on leg warmers, and after 4 hours I've just barely done half of one leg warmer. It doesn't matter how much time it take, necessarily, as long on you're having fun. Though long projects at the beginning may make you discouraged (like me), I'm sure yours will turn out great!

Either you dropped stitches, or it was regular yarn warping. If you look up "crochet blocking tutorial" you should be able to find some helpful stuff
