    We don't use wash mitts or do the two bucket wash method.
    Instead, we use one wash bucket and multiple towels.
    Here's why:
    We can wash more of the vehicle using 8 sides of the towel versus the two sides of a wash mitt.
    The wash bucket always stays clean. We never put a dirty towel back in. We'll discard the used towel into another bucket and then grab another clean towel from the wash bucket.
    There are a variety of methods to wash your vehicle. We'll change the process based on the condition of the vehicle or the type of service it's getting.
    Just find what works for you and keep on doing that!

  • @JJS432
    @JJS432 Год назад +253

    I’ve tried this method, it’s good but I find the flimsiness of the towels forces you to unnecessarily press harder against the paint when wiping across. Two bucket method is bulletproof as long as your initial prefoam and pre rinse steps are thorough. And as Todd from Esoteric states, many use the two bucket method system incorrectly. Many do not take their time to physically run the wash mitt against the grit guard in the rinse bucket. This is key.

    Been using this sort of method. I wash the bottom of the car first and that towel never goes back in the bucket or on the car. Wash in straight lines and anything that hits the ground stays there. Don't put all your towels in the wash bucket until you need to use another. The towels will soak up solution and you tend to have less suds if you just have multiple towels sitting in the wash bucket.

    The only problem with your method is pressure points that can cause micro marring and scratches long term. I use a product call the Ultra black sponge that can be used by both rinseless solution and soap it eliminates pressure points which is one of the reasons for causing defects in the paint. I have tested this on perfectly corrected black paint. But to each their own thanks for sharing.

    • @timq9425
      @timq9425 Год назад +8

      Bryan that’s right. This is great for a faster wash. But it definitely will cause more scratches. Those wash towels are super thin. Thinner the higher the pressure points the higher the marring and scratching.
      The best solution: do the same method with multiple wash mitts and call it done. Again I get the idea but it will definitely scratch a lot more than a high quality wash mitt will scratch no matter how you do it. Wash mitt density allows less pressure and collect debris without running it back on the surface as much. Thinner microbfiber may pick up the dirt but it has no where to go except to scratch the surface until it’s rinsed. Once pass on a microfiber you’re already scratching the paint.

What I end up doing is using Absolute and a grit guard (with one on the bottom and also the kis that goes on the side so you can scrape against it) in my "dirty" bucket, and 2-4 color-coded wash mitts in the clean one, using the same order of colors every time. Once I've used both sides of the wash mitt, I drop It in the dirty bucket, scrub it down a bit, and then grab a clean one. Usually I only need the 2-4 wash mitts for a contact wash, but if I end up needing them again like I do sometimes on a big SUV or RV, the one I used first in the Absolute is essentially clean because of the scrubbing and the Absolute encapsulating the dirt and bringing it to the bottom. Then I just spray it real quick, dip it in the clean bucket again, and repeat as necessary.

    How many towels are you generally using for, say a full size car vs a full size truck?

  • @wadet73
    @wadet73 7 месяцев назад

    I always preferred using towels. Mainly because I can feel the cars contours and I got a better finished job. Plus I scratched my car up one time real bad once and that's all it took with a wash mitt

    i started doing that once i heard of the two bucket method. i didnt want to do two buckets so i filled it with multiple towles and got to folding and washing. flip, flip, fold, flip flip, inside out fold, flip, flip, fold, flip flip toss.

      Towels are cheap, but a set wash them after you use them. When he says discard he means throw it in the dirty laundry and wash it later. Now more expensive then a glove sponge.

  • @HustlePOV

    I feel like when the towel drags on the car and there’s dirt it can just get rubbed into the paint easily. With the mitt it can kind of get trapped in the crevices, on the towel there’s no room for it to trap the dirt you’re rubbing from the car.

    I remember that being called the Garry Dean method by guy who taught me to detail.
    When I used to detail as a job around 8 years ago my friend told me about the Garry Dean method (RUclips I would guess never really looked) which at the time was ONR and microfiber towels. He would do the 8 side thing but I remember my friend would say he would trash the towels after the wash. He wouldn’t ever use them to touch paint again he would only use brand new towels to wash

      If the budget allows it lol. I would not do this on a mudded truck for example. But on a regular maintenance car that has been rinsed before, I dont see the need to trash them.

    I don’t reuse mitts or towels, ever. I’ve seen enough scoring from mitts and towels when rinsed and reused to stop wasting my time. I use a single bucket with a dozen towels to agitate, and rinse with my pressure washer accordingly, and when done. I air and towel dry afterwards.

    If you will keep your car waxed, you can clean any dirt off with just water... No touch!! Your paint will last a whole lot longer, and no risk of scratches from dirt in your towel or MIT.
