HOW TO GET YOUR BMX BIKE DIALED!

  • For today's Tech Thursday we cover how to get your BMX bike to sound dialed (or noise free).
    I address the 5 major issues that cause your bike to sound clanky, loose, or that it makes it feel not as good as it could!
    They are:
    1) A loose chain
    2) A loose headset
    3) Loose cranks or bottom bracket
    4) Loose pedals
    5) Low air pressure
    Follow these helpful tips and your bike should feel a whole lot better!
    Please let me know in the comments about videos you want to see, other tutorials, and any other suggestions you guys might have!
    Thank you everyone :)

    Long time fan of the channel. Sorry to here about your break in, these streets are cray. wanted to try and help you out by making some content idea suggestions (must be hard putting stuff out as regular as you do)
    1. You can get little hammocks online for cats, I think tony would enjoy one
    2. late night ghost walk, if there are any abandonned sites near you
    3. more day in the life with phil Love watching him rip.
    4. care package giveaway, get all the oss boys to chuck something (legal) in the box (begin)
    5. streets of la tourguide by bmx, Im from the uk would love to see more of the city and some street riding on the way.

    My biggest thing is pedals...I like them to be tight & then it's chain. Everything else should be tight to avoid damage to bearings. But those are just my biggest things I like to keep extra tight and dialed 👌🏼👌🏼.

    when I center my back whell, I normally place the thumb on the chainstay
    (I put half of the thumb next to the rim) and use that as a guide while adjusting it little by little.
    then I take a look at the sprocket from the back of the bike and check if its aligned with the drive
    I did not know the technique you used on the video, i'll go for that (less messy + faster imo) lol

  • @MatthewGorveatte
    @MatthewGorveatte 7 лет назад

    i use a hammer handle or and tool handle to wedge between the frame and tire, to make it the right chain tension, but not to much tension. and it does not shift, as you tight to much, give it a whirl.you can really pick your tire postion.

    Many, many thank yous for this one, Alfredo! I've been wondering for a while what you OSS street guys run your air pressure at. I ride mostly street and try to stay around 50 psi in the back, 40 up front, but at times a bit lower. However, I'm only 145 lbs so I can get away with that easier than others. I find that lower air pressure in the rear helps my manuals "dramatically". Keep up the awesome work my friend, I know a lot more about bmx bikes than I ever thought I would. Happy New Year to the OSS crew!

    For home storeage safety, if you have several bikes, try to find an old lifting chain, i dont know what the correct name is, but its what you would see being used to lift really heavy machinery?, i have a piece of this , its like a warship anchor chain!, about ten feet long, weighs maybe 30 kilos??, wrapped in cloth, so not to damage frames, then you want either a shipping container padlock, or similar, ingersoll rand do a really good one, nobody is going to be taking your bikes with this set up!!

    nice video man. here's my problem. I use to ride in high school and back then bikes were different, they were 45, 50lbs and the dimensions were different. I road a 2 hip soul, i just got back into riding but this new bike style feels completely different. my 2 hip felt like it was a part of me, a 4th leg if you will. no matter what I do and change I just can't get it to feel right. now I'm lost on what to do next. is there anyway you can make a video of how to set up a bike for someone specific? something like , if you're this tall you want this hight bars or you weigh this much you want this setup this way etc. my frame I believe is the same length as my last but I'm real close to giving up and just building my 50lbs 2 hip again so I feel comfortable and I can start riding again instead of spending all the time I ride trying to figure out and set up my new frame. if no video, if u have and ideas that might help I'm all ears. thanks man

    • @AlfredoMancuso

      You could wrap your top tub with a little bit of tape right where the cable taps your frame and it'll eliminate a lot of the noise.

    My bike sounds like it is vibrating throughout the bike but when i hit the pedals or cranks it sounds like it might be them. Could the pedals or cranks be causing the whole bike to rattle

    • @AlfredoMancuso
      @AlfredoMancuso  7 лет назад

      Yes most definitely, it could be a the bottom bracket, chain or the cranks themselves

      Could it be the bearings in the bottom bracket

      usually sealed bearing wheels don't have that issue as much as loose ball bearing ones

    My forks seem kind of short and when I put my headset and spacers on the tube for the forks doesn't go all the way threw the stem is that a problem and is there a way to get a longer tube? And how is that sized?

    i just bought a new bike fitbikeco dugan sig, trying to learn crankflips but the cranks are too tight to spin a full rotation, i loosened my chain a lot and still won't spin. does it just need time to break in or should i grease it up?

    How do you stop creaking???

    • @AlfredoMancuso
      @AlfredoMancuso  7 лет назад +1

      usually you need to find where the creaking is coming from and then you can usually solve it by applying grease at that joint

      Alfredo Mancuso I think creaking is coming from my tire spikes being loose
