The Summit is fantastic and yours is better still with the brushless system. I just bought an E revo and I think its great, better than my Emaxx, it just keeps rolling over!
Its about time i found a vid of a summit doing some real bashin in snow. I have the summit tire & wheel combo on my brushless e revo 5608. With stock gears & 4s lipo it chews thru snow, but u will brake drive shafts once the tires meet the road again. Lol, im upgrading to steel stock isnt strong enough plus cold does'nt help. Great vid
Couldn't disagree more with those that claim that the summit should not be modified to be high speed. I have HIGHLY modified my summit. It handles great at 50+ speeds on 6s. The summit has the low gear that can be used anytime for a little crawling. The great thing about this truck is that, at any time, I can quick change my suspension and rockers BACK to a crawler (not that it was EVER really good at serious crawling). It is a highly versatile machine! Can't say the same for the erevo. So, if you want a "one car that does many" pretty well, go with the summit!
Also, I use the fully sensored viper vtx8 with the tekin truggy. I also added a Futaba gyro for high speed. Smooth as silk and TOTALLY controllable at 6s speeds. Of course, my suspension is highly modified and my tires are heavily taped:)
Replying to myself since I ran out of room lol. All Castle Creation ESC's are also highly water resistant, although they do not market them as being water proof, if you email them they will tell you they can be run in water. They are coated with a water proof coating, however any model with a USB port will need the port sealed. Brushless motors can be run in water, however as with any motor you will need to clean it, dry it and lubricate it afterwards.
Don't forget, volts equals the speed of the motor turning, amps equals the torque. this esc can handle over 30volts, ive hooked up more than the rated 25.2 volt share
Yes the ESC is waterproof. A quote from the VXL-3s manual: " Your VXL-3s brushless power system is waterproof for use in mud, snow, puddles and other wet conditions. Make certain the other components of your model are waterproof or have sufficient water resistance before driving in wet conditions." I'm assuming the manual you're talking about is the vehicle manual? Yes the vehicle should not be submerged as water can and will get in and corrode the bearings etc.
yes, but with the MMM you will experience interference issues. I installed a MMM2200 on my E Maxx and with the stock radio I was glitching. I bought a spektrum 2.4ghz and its much more responsive.
I cant wait to get it running and see how it does on the race track at the hobby store. The mamba will install with no mods bolts right in it is $299 and pretty much with that much power you cant lock the diffs they cant hang
i personally don't find the summit fast enough stock for any real fun bashing. It does ok at crawling but it's not nearly fast enough for any decent jumps. I'm definitely thinking of going brushless in the very near future. Just my opinion though
I'm stupid, great comeback, especially since I directly quoted the Traxxas manual. If you could read you would see my argument was with Newport1974. He claimed Traxxas doesn't make a waterproof (or even water resistant) VXL. As you are aware since you claim to own one, they do.
yea just hook that thing up to the pc and load up the Castlelink Software and set the cutoff for whatever lipo's you are using. I just bought a summit and a the mamba monster 2650kv friday and my first run with 2- 2cell orion lipos 5000 mAh something in the drive train broke on the rear right side and that tire is not connected to the drivetrain somehow
VERY NICE man! Good job. I like the performance your getting. I will be doing this when the brushed motor goes out, using the MM KV2200 system out of the BL E-revo. What PINION gear are you using? Any heating issues or anything else or is this is pretty simple system to put in? Did you use a Tekno motor mount? I'm in the process of converting a CEN GST to brushless using the 2200KV MM.
@sjiyuey I never said the vehicle itself was waterproof, it's not, which is why I said it shouldn't be submerged. The ESC though is in fact marketed as waterproof. It has a waterproof conformal coating and rubber seals to protect it.
I have broken both of the locking diffs I broke the rear on the first run and i just broke the front today on the second run. I was reading on traxxas that there was a bad batch of diff parts on a small number of summits. I must have gotten one of them. They sent me the first one i broke in 3 days and im going to tell them about the front today. It goes so fast with the 2650kv mamba its almost scary, i bashed it in to my ankle and ripped it open in a few spots and got bloody.
If you have to clean it, dry it and lube it that means it is Not waterproof. And how would you clean, dry and lube a closed can motor? You would have to disassemble it everytime. I called Traxxas Again today and they told me that the Brushless set up is NOT Waterproof.
Newport you really need to research before you spout off misinformation. First off, look on page 12 of the 2009 Traxxas Catolog, it CLEARLY says the VXL is waterproof. Also the VXL motor is not a closed can, it has screws holding it together, you should know that if you deal with Traxxas as they sell parts for the motor, such as a replacement rotor.
You sure don't know much for dealing directly with traxxas. You need to check again, look in the 2009 catalog for one, which you certainly should have if you really are a dealer. If not you can find a .pdf on Traxxas' site. The new 1/16th VXL system is waterproof, so is the new 1/10 VXL system, both say it right on the ESC. Also the old 1/10th VXL has always been water resistant, it says it right on the product page.
you should get like 2 9.6volt 8cells packs because that's like 22volts+, more volts means more speed ,trust me be alot better than high amp lipos @ 14.8 volts, also you have more power and stuff run cooler since lower amps, voltage don't effect temps its the amps,I do have lipo maxamps 3x7.4 volts over 22volts of insanity but two 9.6volt nimh will smoke two 7.4 volt packs anyday, lets just say this my summit with just two regular 8.4volt nimh hits 60mph,I have a video to prove it with stock whls
@iwillgetyouaspoon And your point being? I am not sure I would want a 13 year old in control of a 6hp brushless system capable of breaking both my legs with the slip of a finger.
@timgaylehughes Im 14 and did dog walking and house sitting, and got a 60 amp esc and a 3250 kv motor, soldered everything and got a new battery, a stand, new wheels, some replacement parts for the shock that broke and whatd ya know, 200 bucks later i have the fastest car around, (my 3 friends have a slash, a nitro savage, and 18th scale stuff and im faster than all of em!)
Putting a prepubescent brat at the controls of a 50-70+MPH piece of machinery without intense supervision and close instruction from an R/C veteran is never a wise choice. They do not have the patience or the responsibility to be safe. I've seen ignorant parents make this mistake. It always ends badly.
@iwillgetyouaspoon i can, im 14 and when i was 13 i bought a 259$ mini losi MRC (which is as much as a MM) and i have over 600$ invested in a 6 month period o.O
NO brushless setup is Waterproof. Why is this truck being ran in the snow? Also, I must say again as I once said Before, that Boing sound from the idiot letting off the Trigger is so dam Annoying!
summit+brushless and lipos=remote controlled BEAST !!!!
That brushless system makes the truck. NOW it looks like fun.
The Summit is fantastic and yours is better still with the brushless system. I just bought an E revo and I think its great, better than my Emaxx, it just keeps rolling over!

NOW, I want a summit!
looks like a good combination
2:17 awesome suspension action
Yes. They advertise that.
Ah, you are right. Thanks for correcting. The ELECTRONICS are waterproof, not the ESC and motor.
Also, I use the fully sensored viper vtx8 with the tekin truggy. I also added a Futaba gyro for high speed. Smooth as silk and TOTALLY controllable at 6s speeds. Of course, my suspension is highly modified and my tires are heavily taped:)
WOAH! BACKFLIP!!!
The End was Funny dancing robot but still gotta love the summit
nice summit, 4:59 was pretty cool
AWESOME VID MAN GREAT
@nelsonjoey It's comes fully waterproof. right out of the box it's waterproof. It says ready for snow, mud, water. Or any liquid really..
revo 3.3 and summit are the best
Replying to myself since I ran out of room lol. the mamba esc has a lipo cut off built in

its the monster mamba 22kv...it has the esc and all u need to buy is the lipo cut off!its awesome...$300.00
Quick answer. Yes.
yes, but with the MMM you will experience interference issues. I installed a MMM2200 on my E Maxx and with the stock radio I was glitching. I bought a spektrum 2.4ghz and its much more responsive.

The VXL in the new 1/16 trucks are water resistant?
How is that waterproof?
thats because the suspension is very plush
is it waterproof? if so how
cool, i would try duel vxl cuz same performance, just waterproof and even a little less expensive
Very nice model! And very nice place!! Where is it?
@Luvrc4ever Sorry to say, a Summit usually costs more then $500.
The motors can handle water, my Sidewinder 5700 does just fine, its the ESC that needs to be waterproofed and its very easy he probably did anyway.
i personally don't find the summit fast enough stock for any real fun bashing. It does ok at crawling but it's not nearly fast enough for any decent jumps. I'm definitely thinking of going brushless in the very near future. Just my opinion though
How did the remote locking diffs hold up to this power?
not so far, but on the e-revo 1/16 it will be waterproof
Is it waterproof? What does it costs?
I'm stupid, great comeback, especially since I directly quoted the Traxxas manual.
If you could read you would see my argument was with Newport1974. He claimed Traxxas doesn't make a waterproof (or even water resistant) VXL. As you are aware since you claim to own one, they do.
what camera? filmed at 60fps?
yea just hook that thing up to the pc and load up the Castlelink Software and set the cutoff for whatever lipo's you are using. I just bought a summit and a the mamba monster 2650kv friday and my first run with 2- 2cell orion lipos 5000 mAh something in the drive train broke on the rear right side and that tire is not connected to the drivetrain somehow
@JuJuStudios slash 4x4, or slash, or erevo
VERY NICE man! Good job. I like the performance your getting. I will be doing this when the brushed motor goes out, using the MM KV2200 system out of the BL E-revo. What PINION gear are you using? where did you get the motor?
what would you say top speed is and what does it do to the crawling aspect of the summit?
nice vid, but you should add some music!!
BTW love that backflip!!
@kareliatrophy
all you have to do to make it waterproof is waterproof the esc which is not that hard to do
How much did you pay the speed controler/brushless ?? Did you do other modifications to install the brushless motor ?
So now it's not waterproof as it was in stock??
@sjiyuey I never said the vehicle itself was waterproof, it's not, which is why I said it shouldn't be submerged.
The ESC though is in fact marketed as waterproof. It has a waterproof conformal coating and rubber seals to protect it.
@Luvrc4ever :D Aha, I know right, I love my Slash 4x4.
What is the top speed with this?
which motor did you use ?
is there a good torque for crawling ?
is the transmission OK ?
( I'm french )
does it still crawl with the mamba monster max in it? looked good on the high gear ratio with it. :)
yea
2200kv or 2650kv?
@but4her12 no his dad has a contracting company and he works with his dad ALOT
You shoulda went with e-revo brushless or e-maxx, if you just wanna bash! anyhow, good vid!
hi just wondering what gearing your running
nice camera
Isn't the Mamba not waterproof? Also is that big bear?
Any idea what top speed you get with the mamba upgrade?
Is that 4S or 6S ??
@torchboy88
read the description
the new lrp systems are ;)
@velle71 Thanks tips!
your tires were ballooning at 1:50 when you hit the jump
I have broken both of the locking diffs I broke the rear on the first run and i just broke the front today on the second run. Why? With this setup you basically have a brushless e-revo WITH low range and lockers! Throw on racing tires and another body and you've got it made!
Snow in not an objection, controllers can be waterproof(ed) from the factory or by self.
can u still crawl
NO they are Not water resistant. I Buy and Sell Traxxas Vehicles and deal Directly with Traxxas. NO Brushless system is water resistant or waterproof.
If you have to clean it, dry it and lube it that means it is Not waterproof. And how would you clean, dry and lube a closed can motor? You would have to disassemble it everytime. I called Traxxas Again today and they told me that the Brushless set up is NOT Waterproof.

The guys up there are lying. They advertise it now. I didn't know the mamba motors were.
@but4her12 mo he and his dad have a contracting company and he works ALOT
Thanks for an entertaining video, and especially for not putting a sh*t soundtrack on it.
you should get like 2 9.6volt 8cells packs because that's like 22volts+, more volts means more speed ,trust me be alot better than high amp lipos @ 14.8 volts, also you have more power and stuff run cooler since lower amps, voltage don't effect temps its the amps,I do have lipo maxamps 3x7.4 volts over 22volts of insanity but two 9.6volt nimh will smoke two 7.4 volt packs anyday, lets just say this my summit with just two regular 8.4volt nimh hits 60mph,I have a video to prove it with stock whls
@iwillgetyouaspoon lol that's true :'( next year i'm 16 and than i'm going to do vacation work :)
put some snow chains
Lol so damn right!
@iwillgetyouaspoon And your point being? I am not sure I would want a 13 year old in control of a 6hp brushless system capable of breaking both my legs with the slip of a finger.

i can barley afford a slash and rustler let alone a traxxas summit with a mamba monster!
@jackkkkiieiie not even close
That "Boing" sound from the idiot letting the controller go is so annoying!
Putting a prepubescent brat at the controls of a 50-70+MPH piece of machinery without intense supervision and close instruction from an R/C veteran is never a wise choice. They do not have the patience or the responsibility to be safe. I've seen ignorant parents make this mistake. It always ends badly.
@iwillgetyouaspoon i can, im 14 and when i was 13 i bought a 259$ mini losi MRC (which is as much as a MM) and i have over 600$ invested in a 6 month period o.O
mamba monter in snow 0.o BAD IDEA!!!
well its faster ill say that
HYDROPLANE THE LAKE!!!1!!
NO brushless setup is Waterproof. Why is this truck being ran in the snow? Also, I must say again as I once said Before, that Boing sound from the idiot letting off the Trigger is so dam Annoying!
@iwillgetyouaspoon dude my friend has one and hes 13 oh and he has a kawasaki mule 610
@iwillgetyouaspoon im 13 and i can.... its called to like a week of yard work for neighbors and get paid and ta da u have money
@blowenfuse unless the thirteen year old is better than you at driving. age has nothing to do with skill.
Nice truck, but you gotta learn to drive!
