This is actually one of the better videos on discipline I've watched, and I've watched a bunch. Instead of just rambling free form, you structured it and presented it very nicely, visuals were top notch and I think I took away some valuable points from it. Please make more such videos on similar topics of achievement, success, fullfilment, happiness, spiritual strength, mental toughness and so on.

I didn’t have discipline growing up. I wasent forced to brush my teeth, I wasent grounded, I wasent forced to eat veggies and fruit. I wasent forced to clean. It’s brutal. I’ve just been going off motivation. My mom recently passed and I don’t have anyone else so that hit hard for me. I’ve realized I’m the only one to change anything. I’m working on my discipline and so far I’ve only started with working out. I’m down 75lbs in a year and I’m still doing but but it’s a lot slower now. I just need to go ahead and do everything else to catch up and once I start I believe I’ll be unstoppable. I just wish I grew up like this so my mom could see I’m not such a disappointment so she could be proud.

Fantastic, brother. Well done on losing the weight.
Parents are often afraid of instilling discipline in their children because they think their kids will grow to resent them. I believe it's better to have children who resent you, but who are prepared to cope with the realities of the world, than to have children who love you, but are useless to society.

I have watched hundreds of videos and read countless books about motivation and sometime last year I sort of just hit a wall. Nothing seemed to be seeping through and helping me make lasting positive change. Only fits and starts here and there. Then I was finally diagnosed with ADHD at 50. Honestly, after somewhat unsuccessfully trying to address that issue I had sort of settled into “this is just how I am” and making the positive changes necessary to ever accomplish anything lasting and real was simply not in the cards for me in this life.

I think a strong helper instilled since being a kid was the idea that if something has to be done there is no decision. Getting rid of the decision process altogether and knowing you just have to do it, so just do it, made 90% of decisions non-factors. :)

I agree!!! That was such an eye opener, like nothing I've ever heard before. Once we take 20 steps back with 20 negative decisions, we would then have to take 20 positive steps forward, with 20 good decisions, just to be at the same place we started before our downward trajectory. THAT is why we feel hopeless, like we are not going anywhere and like it's pointless to even try. This actually blew my mind. This is why it feels like we are stuck, or not moving. If we go back and forth between + and - decisions, then we will really feel stuck, because ultimately we aren't moving. It will then feel like our goal is so far away that it's unobtainable.
Or, a person can take very big steps to move forward faster, but it's hard to do that. Taking the big steps can lead to us being overwhelmed and quitting. Anthony pointed that out as well.
I will never look at a decision in the same way again.

Baseline. I just cried because I'm tired of fighting the sadness. Then I came back to this video and listened to the first step. Treat every decision as though it's important. I stopped there. That's all I can handle right now. I'm gonna clean the bathroom. I don't feel like it...but it matters...and it's better than sitting with my wet face in my hands😒.

Oh I love the idea of the +1 framework!
Also, I can confirm that the "Become the master and the slave" theory works and that it works very well (if you discipline yourself to do it daily). The only thing I do differently to emotionally detach myself from the activities that need to be done tomorrow is that I don't think of my tomorrow's self as myself. When I started practicing this I wrote a note for my future selves that summarizes this thinking... "You only live today. That's it. Tomorrow? That's not you, that's tomorrow's Jacob. Your time to do something is today. Do the best you can to move closer to your goals and help tomorrow's Jacob to do the same." It helps me with being grateful to my yesterday's me for doing the decision-making for me and motivates me to do the same for my tomorrow's me. It also helps with actually trying my best to follow the plan I have for the day.
(Btw I didn't come up with this "one day-one life" way of thinking, Seneca did.)

    • @AnthonyVicino
      @AnthonyVicino  Год назад +3

Same. i'm not sure where I got this particular framework, but Seneca seems a very likely influence.

    Summary!
The resistance, want to put things like status quo
    1. Motivation and discipline
M - feels good, reward centre, short lived
D - do things in the moment, enen if you don't want
    1. Treat everything you do as important (+1 framework Infront, -1 framework behind)
Does not matter how impt the decision, move front and back only
Thinking of every decision is impt (Netflix or learn)
Start small move towards greatness or away
    2. Start work, does not feel about how you feel
    3. Remove temptation
    Intentionally design environment
    4. Become the master and the salvage
    Current and future me
Time block, design the perfect next day for future me
    Future me just follow
    5. Identify my why
Clearly understand why I should do so
Fear at the end of the life, didn't live up the potential
    6. Develop daily discipline practise
Make myself do the hard thing
    How to combat procrastinating
    1. Become aware that I'm delaying
Intentional Maintenance: random alarm + what's my outcome
    2. Reclaim my intention
    - reconnect why I need to do
    3. What I need to do (win the game)
    Objective, set tiny goal
Object at rest will stay at rest, use smallest energy to get the ball start rolling
Give myself lesser time (by the end of the hour)
    4. Just get started
Momentum, any forward motion will put Issac newton with me

Focus is my No. 1 goal and I totally agree about the fact that getting out distractions is the key to focus, it is all a mix of not wanting to start because we see the task too big for us and we procrastinate. Discipline is the key to everything, to the whole universe within ourselves, mastering it is a great adventure that I'm loving it. Sometimes the path is not linear, but the important thing is keeping the momentum alive and progress is progress, even a small amount of progress can have a huge impact to our lives.

Hi, I am 70 years old and have just discovered your videos. They are wonderful. Same as many others here, grew up with no given direction, advice, or discipline. I have all the negative habits, thought processes you speak about. Your words will be helpful to me. Now, you are an excellent speaker! I am curious if you are reading your script, which you don't appear to be doing, or did you memorize what you would say in this video, OR are you speaking just off the top of your head from all the knowledge you've gained from experience ?? Also thank you for answering people here. Your advice is encouraging and it's encouraging to know you have been heard !! A large number of people don't answer. Thanks !

Wow thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Seems like you figure yourself out to get the most productivity out of yourself. You're right it's not easy but it's worth it. I recently started working out again just so I can lose body fat and feel better. I also started intermittent fasting to get in better shape. The working out and the intermittent fasting was really hard the first few weeks but now the strength is going up and I'm feeling better I'm losing body weight. I'm trying to apply discipline to making money. I like what you were saying about the + 1 + -1. We do live in a world that is filled with so many distractions so hard to stay on task but I liked what you said about scheduling.. I'm a lot like you
