I’m not sure I got the significance of the loudest snare..but… super well produced video and any time someone is sharing love for PC drumming I’m a fan. So I’ve subscribed.
While I LOVE Genesis and think the ensemble is a well-matched group of fantastic musicians, I never tire of listening to Phil's drumming on the early prog albums. Power and finesse. He was so musical in his drumming, Phil was the glue that kept the band together through the most insanely intricate and syncopated sections. Magical.
Microphones are the key. Hitting drums hard is not in any way a means to determine whether a drummer is good. That is ridiculous. Phil would tell you the same thing.
Believe it or not there are many who don't even know Phil Collin's played drums. Watch some of the music reviews of 'In The Air Tonight' (Paris, 2004) and no, they are not faking it (well, I'm sure there are a few who are). Phil was such a huge hit singing solo, many don't even know he was in Genesis. But most drummers do not underrate his talent behind the kit.
@@rk41gatorespecially that, many people don't know he was in Genesis and that he was a drummer before he was a singer. He always called himself a singing drummer, not a drumming singer.
what is it with you people and your weird obsession over phil collins' snare drum. you all know.. that phil isn't the only person on earth to have ever hit a snare drum ? just checking
I can tell you have no idea of Phil's contribution to shape the 80's sound. The guy was not only a great composer and performer. He was a genius building his sound in the studio around elements that became his trademark. This is not about Phil hitting a snare drum. It's about his style in the recording process.
Great video! Always love to hear somebody talking about my favorite musician :D
No Son of Mine is also such an amazing tune
Holy crap, Phil did "In the Mood" too? God dam

The actual snare drum is a Nobel & Cooley solid shell ( approximately 4" X 14"), cheers!
Actually 14 x 3 7/8”
The topic of loud snares always reminds me of Def Leppard pyromania.
I would bet the snare from Inside Out would be louder. Phil is beating the crap out of the kit on that song.
I have always considered Inside Out to have the loudest cymbals

2.32 and 3.33 you are welcome
Underrated???
By whom?

By people who know only John Bonham.
@@lubmir2k Collins could have been great with either Led Zeppelin or The Who, but glad he was with Genesis. A perfect match.
I know how he did that snare, but I can't tell you because it's an industry secret. It's in my music now.
Hes not under-rated kids who dont listen to genesis are sad sad creatures
What an incredibly boring subject. If you mic a snare and flick it with your pencil it will sound loud with reverb. What a waste of time
