- Confirm if transmission has ATF Thermostatic Valve located on passenger side of the transmission. If present, lock the thermostatic valve in open position. Failure to do so will cause incorrect fluid level adjustment.
I don't own a Tundra, I own a Tacoma, but I love Peter's videos because I ALWAYS learn something new. Granted, I'm no mechanic, but I love learning about vehicles (especially trucks), because it helps me to understand my truck in the event it needs repairs. Watching these Toyota maintenance videos helps me to understand what the shop mechanic is explaining. Thanks so much!
Could not agree more. Well said.
Peter, Your automatic transmission maintenance videos are always helpful and they also remind me of how simple fluid service is on my manual.
Very good information - never would have guessed!
Top 3 toyota mechanics on youtube. Honestly number 1. Your so thorough on everything you do. I trust you. Thanks for the video. Love the channel
Love the tundra videos well done. 2011 tundra owner
Your videos are inspiring to know there is somebody out there wanting to do things the proper way ....... thanks for another awesome tutorial video, my friend Peter!!
I know that you have to do the same thing on the left side of the radiator also with a paper clip, but no other video has talked about the tow package cooling system! Good stuff!
Thanks for sharing this, interesting information provided.
Note to self: always have paper clips when working on a Tundra!
Such a good piece of info I have not seen anywhere else. Thank you 🤜oh yeah. Also, 🇺🇸

I said it before and I'll say it again. Most mechanics should be the way this gentleman is. However, it is the other way around. They try to talk you into buying or replacing things you don't even need. It's all about inflating the price of the job or pieces as much as possible. You can see them getting started with their friendly talk, ending up with the "it's going to be $450...oh, but is it a Northern vehicle??? that's going to be $600...rust, you know..." That for a job that may be reasonably $120...They end up charging 100 plus/hour, I don't care if you have to use your tools and shop. That's ridiculous, outrageous; they are not surgeons, it's a car, not a person. They lie. Their work is sloppy to say the least. They rush without paying attention to the detail. They don't clean. They're shady. I've lived in Spain, France and the US...and had to deal with them in every place: Many of them are all the SAME. This is the best mechanic I've seen and I can see it based on these videos, I don't need to personally deal with him to know it, (I wish he lived close by though...).
@Miguel Fleitas Totally agree. My great mechanic of 22 years retired, and I have yet to find a replacement. I sorely wish Piotr lived within an hour of me.
Thanks for the information, you always give all the details.
That was interesting. I would have never figured that out.
Thank you for this. This helped me adjust my fluid level after the fill.
Next time I work on one of my Toyota’s, I’m gonna use a paper clip to do something just so I can tell people I did. 🤣
Go for it!
I don't have the trans but its interesting to know.
Thanks for sharing this video.
Thanks for the great info. When checking the fluid level on this 6 speed transmission the manual states to make sure the vehicle is level. I’m assuming they are referring to the frame by the way your supporting the truck. Rather than getting the wheels level as would be the case on a drive on lift. Is this correct?
Love your videos!
I own a 2011 Toyota Camry and 2014 Venza. Both are 4 cyl and I would like to perform an ATF flush and fill. The Camry has over 140k miles and has had its service done at a dealer at 70k. The Venza has 65k miles and will be its first and would like to do it myself. I do not have the luxury of a lift and will have to do everything from the ground. I am mechanically inclined and just want advice on how to set the correct fluid level since they are not equipped with dipsticks. Also, should I warm the vehicle up before draining. I am assuming that both cars use the Toyota WS ATF. Thank you for any advice.
Thank you very much. What happens if I drive with that pin still in?
Transmission fluid will always circulate through the transmission cooler and not properly warm up . [ maybe even shortening the life of the transmission ]. The idea here for pining that is to get as much fluid as possible out for a complete fluid exchange to new ........Comprenda’. ?
@@normfreilinger5655 after doing the oil change I drove for a mile or so when I remember about the pin. I checked the oil level for the second time with the oil at 127 degrees Fahrenheit and that's when I removed the pin.
Sr is this also done when just draining whats in the pan and then filling unti overflow bolt is full and temperature is correct. Must I still use paper clip..???.
Or is paper clip done when only your doing a complete flush to get all old fluid out? Thank you
is this the same temp ranges for the 2007 4.7 tundra? Can i just point a laser temp gun at the pan to get the Temp?
More adduction about Tundra, please.
Great info. Thx
Question. My 2007 was shifting fine until I had a shop drain and put new tranny fluid in. Now when my truck is going DOWNHILL ONLY, it has a hard downshift into 3rd gear.
Shift perfect into 3rd on level surface or going uphill. Any ideas?
I have a 2001 toyota tundra, would my truck have this?
I bought a 08 Tundra about an year ago
Today I find out that my thermostatic valve its been open and with the pin all this time
What do you think about this?
Thank you sir
I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla LE what are the specifications for my transmission fluid
What happens if the valve stuck push in it wont go back up?
How come all your customers are in a hurry????
Should this valve be opened when draining as well?
Where’s your shop dude?
Northern California.
Arcata
I would like to take my tundra and rx350 to your shop for service. May I get your info? I am in Sacramento.
Macguyver would be perfect for this. He always has a paperclip.
What the transmission fluid really dirty? Like a brown color? I have a 2010 tundra with 190000 miles and the fluid is kinda brown and the tranny isn’t slipping but it is shifting improper sometimes. The fluid has never been changed in the truck so is it a good idea to change it now?
@garrett delaune what did you end up doing ?
Toyota loves to make the easiest things super difficult.very irritating. Thanks again Toyota
I swear they do. One of the things I hate about them
What if you dont have this how do you do it then
You didn't show HOW TO CHECK THE LEVEL UNFORTUNATELY
Can send me info to give u my tundra same code
