Thank goodness they dropped this "read first impressions from a very select audience" bullshit with Eternal. Still the best game of 2020s IMO since I'm not into Soulsbornes. Hopefully their next big project follows the same path of openness. Perhaps a Quake equivalent of Doom 2016.

It seems crazy to me that in 2014, a year where Nintendo chose to not attend E3 and instead stream all their news, they'd still go this route. If the footage is as good as I hear, the video will go viral and attract a lot of positive attention.

Honestly I get why they would want to give something back to their loyal fans. But having gameplay released publicly like you said helps sell more copies. It allows more hype to generate over the game. No matter how shitty it is.

It is not like this was a big secret that it was exclusive to QuakeCon attendees. It mentioned it in the DOOM trailer revealed at E3. I can say though, I was happy as hell I went to QC. They showed off not 1, but 2 game play segments. They also showed off the dynamic Chainsaw kills, then mowed demons down with the double barrel shotgun. It was great!
Trailer doesn't really say "Exclusive to Attendees at QuakeCon 2014" it just said it would be revealed there leading people to believe that they'd finally get to see the game online but nope.... I just noticed all the shit talking on dooms 3. I don't get it, that games was fucking awesome. Scary and the artwork is so fucking good. Yea it def was missing a few things and the feeling and controls of the character felt "sloppy"? I guess would be the word but with a few changes it could have been a masterpiece. This wasn't as bad as Quakecon's Doom 3 streaming event. cause just moments before doom's gameplay was supposed to be shown they stop transmitting video to the streaming site so only the audio would work, in then they proceed it to tell us to put our wallet's next to the speakers and excuse ourselves from the room.

This is probably one of the best videos on RUclips. I hate how only people who can afford to fly to Texas get to see it. Bethesda said that the gameplay is only shown to the "true fans." Bethesda has many fans around the whole world who can't afford to go to Texas, so they must not be real fans. Thats Bethesdas logic.

Hype for a game from a company whose last 2 releases have been sub par. The last 2 games wrapped in such gameplay mystery were Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens Colonial Marines. I'm not butt hurt, I'm tired of being burned by companies using beloved franchises to swindle me.

They announced that the gameplay would only be for those that were at their own con and they announced that in advance. Just because they didn´t do what you wanted them to do and what you think you are entitled to doesn´t mean they had to. Grow up people. It´s a game, the info, pics and videos will be public soon enough.

This wasn't as bad as Quakecon's Doom 3 streaming event. cause just moments before doom's gameplay was supposed to be shown they stop transmitting video to the streaming site so only the audio would work, in then they proceed it to tell us to put our wallet's next to the speakers and excuse ourselves from the room.

lol excellent choice. If you did pay for the stream its a little bit of a shaft. The new Doom should prove to be good but i'm still waiting for a new Quake to be announced at Quakecon (and not by a side project dev) :P
Whether they said it was exclusive or not, I just think that's piss poor marketing. Millions of people are waiting to see DOOM4, and plenty of those people cannot go to QuakeCon for personal or work related reasons. You shouldn't punish your fans simply because they can't go to Quakecon for "X" reason, fire your marketing leader.
