6:00 The biggest difference with the 5,7mm round is that the casing is not tapered towards the top like most rifle cartridges. It is cylindrical, so in order to extract properly, the cartridge is coated with a very special lubricant on the outside, so it slides out the breech cleanly. Other suppliers do seem to have some difficulty getting this exactly right. This is also a challenge for the reloaders.
Nice 10...I mean 20 minute talk! Awesome conversation though. FN is just so expensive but Ruger's new option is a consideration! The 20 round mag is definitely a draw...
I love my M&P 5.7 Runs like a dream It is silly how far you can accurately hit targets repeatedly I think 5.7 is having a renaissance. It just makes SO MUCH SENSE in a handgun when it comes to recoil and shots on target. I REALLY want to see a copper hot load like a Black Dragon Fang on that bear skull you all tested! If a 9mm is viable for bear defense... would a hot monolithic copper projectile do the job? Consider the fact of just how many rounds you can put on target at a farther distance. I think it needs to be tested!
I’ve shot the semi automatic p90 it’s insane how controlling the gun is. The cartridge has options the CMMG has its merits especially on the common handling features
The FN 5.7 is what sits in my wife’s bedside safe. Soft shooting cartridge that brings more than sufficient energy in a home defense scenario. I would like to know where you’ve found the “cheap” ammo. I’ve been paying $45+ per box but the FN made stuff is all I’ve found in stores by me!
I know this podcast was like 3 years ago, and maybe at that time 5.7 was cheaper??? However... you currently pay between $0.73-$1.20/round for plain old 40 grain FMJ rounds. Also... I now load my own and can actually get 5-6 reloads out of them without issue.
If the boutique stuff wasn't prohibitively expensive, I'd consider the 5.7x28mm. As of now, I'd be more inclined to get the Underwood XD 68gr +p in 9mm as that will punch 3a armor as well. Higher terminal effects against unarmored targets as well. If I need something to hit farther than 9mm, get a real rifle caliber.
The P90 would be a great SBR. Surely someone will start manufacturing of conventionally formed brass for the 5.7 which would speed production and only require a new set of dies and just might result lower retail pricing. I believe more firearms will result in more demand for ammo and more interest in ammo manufacturers joining the party.
the magazine design will work in 9mm, it will hold about 30 rounds. the fn p90's magazine feed system comes from the Hill submachine gun. chambered in 9mm, designed by a guy from texas
@@chancebeall7220 it's just a stock. Pretty neat, a few companies make them. Mine is a high tower armory conversion stock. Makes your 1022 into a ps90. Minus the trigger, is pretty much perfect.
The biggest problem with 5.7x28 is that it was designed around armor penetrating metalurgy. It is basically a more reliable, centerfire, rimless 22 Mag.
Love the p90 hate the 5.7 x 28. P90 magazine design kind of requires a straight wall cartridge. If I recall correctly 45 ACP 380 auto 10 mil and 40 are all straight wall cartridges if they made a p90 in any of those including the 380 I would buy one.
Coming back and hearing a trigger-finger-actuated safety called intuitive still doesn't make sense. I can only think of two weapon with 'swipe trigger finger down' sort of safeties, the AK variants and the FN57, with maybe cross bolts being close enough to qualify, but entirely defying every rifle or shotgun with a tang safety, or the famous Rem 700 strong side thumb safety and things that copy it like the CZ 457, or the most intuitive thumb safety of every AR15 and variant, ACR, XCR, G36, HK roller series and CEMTEs, almost every handgun with a safety or decocker, even the 92FS is thumb activated even if it's in the wrong spot it's a similar motion,. I want to like the FiveSeven, but those controls are very much outliers, and FN still didn't fix it on the Gen 3 model.
No one can deny the coolness factor of the p90, ps90, and five-seven, but the terminal performance of the 5.7x28 round leaves a lot to be desired. The 5.7 is kind of a one trick pony built for the Cold War. Having said that, the positives are the guns are light, hold a lot of rounds, and easy to shot. Another positive is Speer is coming out with a 5.7x28 gold dot offering.
I got one for Christmas and I’ve been wanting a platform that runs it for a while. I was gifted a Ruger 57 for Christmas. The 5.7 is amazing, but at the moment the prices are ridiculous. I paid $65 at a pawn shop for 50 rounds. But I think the 5.7 is about to really blow up.
I hate to say this but 5.7 will remain stagnant. I have a ps90, and a ruger 57. So hoarded a few hundred rounds before the pandemic. I haven't seen any in stores in about 8 months. People like 9mm and 223 way too much to settle in between.
40 grain bullets. 5.7 w/ 16" barrel is roughly 2,300 fps 22 mag with 24" barrel is roughly 1,800 fps And mind you the 5.7 uses spitzer bullets while the 22 mag uses round nose, let alone performance in shorter barrels. This is same mindset that says "5.56 is basically just a .22 LR" because you just refuse to look at the numbers.

everytime i see 10 minute takk its never 10 minutes lol but i really enjoy your podcasts guys very informative
Love my FN 5.7, had one for the last few years, like shooting a nail gun
A 458 socom podcast would be cool. Thank you. I love these podcasts. Keep em coming!

I have always thought they should make rifles (bolt guns) in 5.7 or the 4.6 round the MP7 uses for varmits
22 hornet 5.6x35
I've been wanting to buy the FN-P90. Thank you Stargate.
stargate fans.. got to love the p90 :)
At one point, the producers of Stargate were purchasing half the supply of FN 5.7 blanks being made.
Do a video on .22 tcm

I love my FN 5.7! Couple pigs put down and a lot of varmints.
My nephew loves his Ruger 5.7. Interestingly he is the only person I know who shoots it.
They should make a hellcat in 5.7 thatd be fun
5.7×28 seems like it is just a 5.7 Johnson. 22 spitfire actually performs fairly similarly.
I heard the pistol grip circumference is the same as a glocks

Should do a video on the 7.5 fk
just bought a psd. love it
If you think about cheast dimensions, if it can kill a deer or big coyotes. It can work for self defense
I would compare the ballistic gel wound channels of the 5.7x28 vs 9mm. They are extremely surprisingly similar.
Really would love to hear a 10 minute talk on the 300 wsm!!! I know atleast one of you all would love doing it!!
Haha that is true - we should do it one of these days :)
latest one is 300 wsm
I'd love to hear about the 10.3x68. cool cartridge btw
I've heard you guys do a lot of videos on necking down the 30 06 and a 308. How about the 35 Whelen which should be necking up the 30 06
They have one.
Bolt action 5.7mm for precision rabbit, squirrel, crow. Like a model 7 action 18" barrel and suppressed. Ah the dreams........
Sounds like a 22 hornet with extra steps
@@WayStedYou Yep. Very similar to the K-Hornet with a more efficient case design.
Savage makes one i think it’s a Chambering in the models 25
I 1st fell in love with the P90 playing Goldeneye on Nintendo 64! That made me want the pistol

I'm new here. the guy that does nothing in the corner. he is awesome!!
Is Bullet weight to barrel twist rate important ????????????
Very. Heavier bullet faster twist is necessary to stabilize.
the magazine that inspired the p90 mag was in 9 mm
I got a ps90, and a ruger 1022 converted to a 22/90. The only things I love more are my kids. And yes, my kids are my things too.
What is a 22/90???
@@chancebeall7220 it's just a stock. Pretty neat, a few companies make them. Mine is a high tower armory conversion stock. Makes your 1022 into a ps90. Minus the trigger, is pretty much perfect.
It's actually called 90/22 my bad.
I was hopeful it was a bolt and barrel to make my 1022 shoot 5.7 thatd be more interesting

Tactical Tuna!!
223 WSSM and the factory rifles chambered in it !!!!!!
223 WSSM

How about 7.5FK, better ballistically but won't help with cost?
Ss198lf for self defense my wife Shot mine now she wants one
10 minutes of 10mm
The p909 or P90-9

Speed kills armor.

0214Bub the FN 57 is arguably the best legal home defense gun in California if you’re good with pistols.
Name it the p90-9
Title says 10 minute talk.
Checks the playtime
20 minutes
Lol
284 WINCHESTER
Lol you said it’s not expensive “ammo for 5.7” what world are you living in???
And it’s not 29 grain lead free it’s 27/27.5 grain
I liked the 5.7 when it was first invented as the 7.63 Mauser.
lets talk 223 WSSM
223 Wisum lol help
22 mag same Bal..
5.7 will only be successful when its cheaper than 9mm
... the price gap is closing. Let’s see what 2021’s ammo market is going to do.

Ok, guys talking "cute" and "awe" anytime 👎. Saying it while talking guns 🙉🤨.
Its centerfire 22 mag. If you cant get leo ammo or fullauto its literal garbage
