- The 5.7 Hemi is one of the easiest thermostat replacements ever.
13mm socket and a flat head screw driver is all that is needed.

Thank you Cody! I was actually able to successfully change my thermostat on my 300C Hemi with your simplicit video. Appreciate you. I'm a woman who will get under the hood any day!
On a couple of different forums there were comments made to only use OEM thermostat for replacement. Comments stated that the 5.7L HEMI engines do not like aftermarket thermostats. The gasket/o-ring splits and will prematurely leak in less than a year. I can attest to this fact. I replaced my water pump and thermostat last fall and just had to replace my thermostat two days ago. And yes, it was an aftermarket (blue hat parts store) thermostat and yes I made sure both the thermostat recess and the housing/outlet were clean before reinstalled. I noticed on your video that wasn't done unless it was done off camera. If you drain some coolant from the petcock on the radiator you won't have coolant running all over your serpentine belt, engine, frame and all over the floor !!!
Just an FYI for all those going to tackle this task. Do NOT put a gasket in-between the thermostat and upper house outlet/housing. The o-ring that comes installed on the new thermostat (highly suggest to only use/purchase an OEM thermostat) is the only seal needed. Installing a gasket will more than likely cause a leak in the future and you will be doing this job again !!!
Finally! the information I needed!
Dude, you put it in upside down. Bleed valve should be up at 12 O’clock.
I concur in 2023
Lmao
I saw that too very important 😮
Thank you god you are the only video who actually said the damn bolt size smh
short and simple bruh i love it. im doing mine this morning,2017 ram 1500 hemi
You put in in wrong...the rattle pin should be at the 12 o'clock position for air escape.
The pin is the location of the air bleed for the thermostat - as per the MoPar service manual - it is to be placed at 12:00 O'clock.
I didnt see him put it in
Cody I have 07 RT Charger Hemi, I was told to just take thermostat off but I rather ask you after watching you video.
Thank you for the video, you made this so easy for me to want to do and not waste time and money with a shop!
So its an O gasket right? Not the other one? Im not privy on the lingo.
Advanced gave me the other one not the o
thanks for the video man. looks like a quick project for later today.
For all the people asking if there's a gasket. No there isnt. There should be a seal on the new thermostat. I paid 27 dollars for a new one. At Canadian tire they were going to give it to me for 40 and 7 dollars for the "gasket"
Cody, that Hemi seems so easy to do. I have a Chrysler 300C Hemi. The thermostat is in the same spot but I have to ask one question. When you put that stuff back on, don't you need a gasket or a liquid seal? Yes or no? I appreciate your feedback.
no
Awesome video man,very helpful
It doesn't matter
Very helpful. I first installed the 203 but it ran too hot. Installing lower temp thermostat. 👍👍
I agree. I put a 190 in. 13 degrees should help a little
@@gearhead4005 the part you used, 48792, is 203 degrees. I used that one at first but quickly replaced it.
@@lorieager6460 the 190° is carquest 48799
That's well easier than on my 2004 Ram. It is pretty awkward to get to those screws on the older HEMI as you have to navigate around the serpentine belt
21 ft/lbs torque for the bolts.
It’s the same for Ram 1500 2013 5.7
it dosent matter if you get coolant on your serpentine belt?? im asking because im going to do this and dont want to it to slip off if it gets coolant on it
LOL, it won't slip off. If you think this will cause your belt to slip off, you better let someone with some knowledge do this for you. If you get coolant on belts, they will usually chatter bad for awhile. I usually will take a water hose and rinse the area real well and this will keep the belts from chattering. Best thing to do is to remove the belt and then spray the pulleys with a degreaser and rinse it off.
I have a 2002 Dodge 5.9 Hemi with 300,986 miles. I have recently replaced the whole AC system, under hood and behind dashboard. New thermostat, My temp sensor is bad but I don't know where it is on this model. Can you Help??
On the intake manifold by the heater core bypass hose
Simple. Thanks
Question if I have high pressure in the top radiator hose does that mean there is a blockage in the radiator?
did you use a gasket? does the thermostat need to to be positioned with the bleed valve in the 12 o'clock position?
It uses an oring style and its going to open and flow no matter the angle
so is there a gasket of some sort? mine is leaking from the neck
+Andy Sookhoo no there is no gasket. But I wanted to be sure it wouldn't leak any time soon. So I used a gasket and a small amount of silicone. Looks good tho!
the bleeder should run on the top not bottom
the air bleed pin isn't about flow, it's to let any air behind the 'stat escape out to the other side and through the hose. Air rises in liquids therefore when you put your 'stat in clocked 180°upside down, the bleed pin is doing you absolutely no good.
You didn't pay attention to detail and you installed it incorrectly.
Where would the temp sensor be located? I did the thermostat but want to go ahead and change the sensor as well?
it's best to relieve the pressure in the system before attempting any repair to any pressurized system.
a spray of coolant in the face doesn't taste very good!
my neighbors annoying dog agrees with you ...
Cody, im a new subscriber. I have a question pertaining to the lack of heat problem. If your car or truck had no heat what would be the 1st thing you would do? Change the thermostat? My Ram 1500 just started blowing cold air. It hasnt been any issues really, just general maintanance since i purchased it about 7 years ago and its an 04, so i cant complain. I just dont know where to look 1st. If its a simple issue like changing the thermostat, i can do that. Where do i start?
Thank you. Helen.
mines doing the same first thing im doing is thermostat.
Make sure you not low on coolant . low coolant will make the heat not hot. Also make sure you burp the air from the system. An air bubble can also cause this.
I know for sure that you probably have to use an allen where the water pump is to burp the system which is the only thing I need to know so I can go on with this procedure. Can anyone tell me what size allen it is??
Just let the car run while the radiator cap is off. Let it run while topping off the coolant. Let it run until you no longer see bubbles and the coolant is stable.
@@elroco4827 alright thanks
Bleeder valve always at 12oclock. especially for the 5.7. When she over heats your In real danger of dropping a valve seat. If the engine doesn't denitate..Machists are Exspensive! Double check your work boys!
Thank you Cody so much help!!!
why do u have the bleeder on the bottom
Because he clearly lacks the knowledge necessary to install this correctly.
how much coolent did u lose? I'm doing mine for tuning purposes and dunno how much to buy
For anyone doing this ....well... in 2023, you dont even lose one container worth. It's like...maybe a quart? It aint much. You could probably get away with diluting with water (distilled only) and the car wouldnt know any difference because of how little is lost.
no gasket needed?
It’s a o-ring on the outside edge of the thermostat.
Thank you for this helpful video
underneath the big black hose where the thermostat is there is another big black hose that has the mesh heat protectant over it. Can you please tell me the name of this hose?
Thats the BIH (blood inlet hose) for increased blood flow to help give your engine a boner
My 2006 hemi looks nothing like that. Radiator hose is under A/c pump bolts r outa sight
Throwing a 180 in mine, I have a programmer to adjust the fans as well, these things do have high temp thermos stock, too hot
+juniorloz what programmer do you use?
+Cody the Car Guy Diablo with HEMIFEVER tuning for 2015 RAM, well worth it too, dam truck roasts 35's into second
+juniorloz is there any other way to adjust the fans other than with a Diablo tuner ?
+Edgar M. Not sure, I can't do it manually, the dude who tunes it sends me a new tune
Just got a 180 from Moes today, gonna hit up Sean @ Hemifever to get more leg room for hp
Looks like your car has been filled with the wrong coolant? 1999-2013 Dodge/Chrysler calls for HOAT coolant which is reddish pink. Is yours an equivalent brand of coolant, just different color? Zerex maybe?
Hiroshi13 not sure what's in that vehicle. Zerex G-05 (HOAT) is approved to be used in Chrysler/Dodge vehicles.
It really doesn't matter lol. That specified coolant BS was debunked a while ago.
BewareTheIdes might be true but I'm not going to chance it.
BewareTheIdes am stiking with the hoat coolant. Theres a reason why certain cars require certain coolant in it.other wise all cars would of use the green coolant.
My 2002 Sebring 2.7 ate its new water pump after 3k mi because the shop that I bought the car from used the wrong coolant (green) - I redid the water pump myself and used HOAT = no problems
Nice to put the bleeder screw upside down…. Guess air doesn’t matter….
How do I change the thermostat in a 07 Dodge Caliber 2.0 engine
12 0 clock part forgotten pretty sure you put it at 6 o’clock
i would agree with a
thermostat rated @
160 degrees ...
will this work for the 2013 Hemi Ram 1500 truck.......and i did see any sealant go on this, does that mean its not required.....
What's mm is the thermostat?
Show the people how to bleed the system
What size are the bolts ?
Did you figure out what size ?
Idk, maybe watch the video where he tell you lol
I caint get the thermostat bolts loose! Any ideas anyone? Aluminium!!
Torque 9 ft/lb or 12.2NM
the jiggler or vent has to be at 12 o'clock
You don't just drop this part in and it just works. Not at all, simply changing it is pointless. You need to program the fans to work along with it to actually keep it working at the temp your aiming for...180. This is how you change the part etc but I'd go for the 12 position on the bleeder myself
How easy is it to replace on 2007
crossing my fingers that my 2006 is the same setup
There is no Gasket under the thermostat. ? I think there is ! So why did you not check that. And put a New one on. ???
The gasket goes around the flange on the thermostat and comes with the stat.
No need to burp the system?
I was thinking the exact same thing! Im wondering if he is going to have air in the system, which is going to cause more over heating.
BuckEye Nation friend of mine did this without burping and put in a 180 stat. So far no issues. He has a Diablo tune on it to have the fan turn on at 180 and it runs nice and cool. Surprised me actually.
But not running at optimal combustion temp, because another backyard mechanic is smarter then couple hundred engineers or more.
You can, but not always needed in this little repair. Big tear downs need it but that's really what the jiggle pin is for in many ways. Hence, why it is supposed to be at the 12:00 position unlike how he installed it. I usually will park with the engine uphill slightly to aid in getting rid of air. They will get air in them from time to time but usually you can tell because you won't get the right amount of heat out of the vents.
So much easier on the 2.7 its a pain in the ass
I have a 3.7 Durango. And it's a bitch to replace. It's underneath the engine on the passenger side
This is what you get when backyard hacks do installs wrong. If you do this your engine will blow up.
I have done many Hemi's and never had one single issue. I guess with all the crazy lockdown mess over there in Australia you're just having a bad day.
Yes its a easy intall, but you not take a veary importan precaution... and its you dont put that litter plunger in the thermostad housing up side for the air bleeder...🤔
Ernfrid Johnson what happens if yoy install is upside down? i just installed mine and i think i put it on the bottom
Well let remember that the engineer put this plunger for more than one reason... first wen you flush or change a broken coolant line it let more easy and fast to bleed the trap air in system..
Second and for me the most important is that engine in several and particular hard traffic and tow and hill operation get very hot, at the point that star evaporate some amound of the coolant or the water contain in the coolant and that evaporation make air... this plunger help the system take out dose air.
Ernfrid Johnson yea that makes sense thanks man
one lady over at O'Reilly's I think it was her serviced at that would make the car overheat correct I just took her some water and told her to put the water on it cuz her car was smoking but maybe it's not even that that but at least I helped her and that's what matters so thank you food stamps for helping when a person needs water they need water while she don't use it she can always use it next time
???????
Seems to me that I think you are an IDIOT. Happy to report that . You gave the person water ,yes .? You gotta bleed the air out or the person you thought you were helping ,.....you actually reuned that engine. So you didn't help squats!!
Idiot alert
Dolly diaz
Yep he's right wrong coolant!
Charles Whitlock not if he's totally flushed the system or used a universal "All Makes, Models & Colors" coolant.
Not using HOAT in these engines is a big mistake! RIP Hemi! lol
@@lukeh9199 Agreed on the total flush but don't put green IAT antifreeze in todays engines and cooling systems with so much aluminum parts like complete rads are no longer steel. Most people don't change antifreeze like they should. Green IAT is rated at 2 years and 30,000 mile where yellow HOAT is rated at 5 years, 150,000 miles before all the phosphates and other important minerals break down and start causing corrosion. New blocks and complete cooling systems are way more expensive than 2 gal of specified coolant. Have you ever heard of peace of mind.
getting sick of my dodge ram rt new bbk headers side piped it no muffler tuned it to 93 have had nothing but problems since 27ooo miles I don't no my 1998 5.9 ran great with 175000 miles about down with Dodge
where is the thermostat to an 2005 dodge Durango
check engine light on all the time
He forgot to bleed cooling system😆😆
No bull shit
Do you have to bleed the coolant system before the thermostat is changed?
You are absolutely right yes you have to bleed the cooling system after you change the thermostat because if you don't and coolant leaks out and there's no coolant hitting the water pump guess what when you turn the car on no coolant lubricating the water pump gasket will tear it out trust me I know, my bleeder valve wouldn't open on the water pump and I had to replace the pump because it started leaking because of that....
@@Twix2013PSN how do you bleed ? if you’re still on this account . Some type of lubricant ?
