Use about 2 or 3 Bay leaves whole instead of sugar. When the sauce is done, remove the bay leaves. They draw the acidity of tomato sauces. The leaves can be used in other soup and stews made of tomato sauces.
    Basil adds a lovely sweetness.
I ate dinner with a friend who poured in 1 full cup of white granulated sugar into a large pot of hot spaghetti sauce; then, served it over spaghetti. The Italian in the group nearly vomited and left the apartment.
My friend the cook was about 5 months pregnant and said that was the way her grandmother made it. She cried and cried! We were compassionate.

Thank you for the ravioli recipe. I just got home and had it as a late lunch. In my opinion if you're going to have it cooking on low all day while you're at work, you might want to add the third can of tomatoes. I only used 2 and it was good but I got home at the 6 hour mark and I can see it getting dried out if i got home past 5 pm.

Trick of the trade: put some carrots in the tomato sauce. Peeled/ unpeeled, cut/uncut, it doesn't matter. It will soak up the acidity and add sweetness. Toss the carrots when you're ready to serve (seriously, don't eat the carrots--they're BITTER).

Those look delicious but they are neither easy nor dump and go. They are all fairly involved, requiring quite a bit of prep time.

We do not eat a lot of processed foods, so most things I cook, will require just a couple minutes more prep. But in all, none of them required more than 10 minutes to assemble.

Why do you put plastic in your slow cooker?

They are crock pot liners. I bought a big pack at Sam's Club. Not sure I would buy them again but I am working my way through the pack.

Why do you never add real chopped onions to recipes? You use onion powder!

That's correct. My husband hates the texture of onions but doesn't mind the flavor. That's why I always just say to add them if you like them!
