Dear Sir, I am so glad that you have done a review of this lens. I know how much you rate the 12-100 pro lens. So much so that I have been considering ( for a long time) trading up to the 12-100 pro. However, I use the 14-150 as my go to and travel lens on my EM1 MK 2. This coupled with a couple of prime lenses suite me perfectly. My wife also has a 12-150 for her Panasonic G9 and my daughter has one for her Panasonic G80, We all get excellent results, and would recommend this lens to any micro four thirds user. Thank you for all of your excellent videos.
Thank you for your detailed comments about my 14-150 lens programme. Acquiring the 12-100 Pro Lens might depend on output, what you are going to do with the images afterwards. I use it because I am into publishing where the standards are high. Whilst I can get images published with cheaper Olympus lenses, the 12-100 offers the client the very best quality, which they can check from the metadata. Hope this explanation is helpful and that you will continue to view my productions. Latest published every Friday at 18:00 hours GMT. All good wishes.

I have this lens, which I use with my EM-5 ll, but have tended to use it only at the telephoto end. After watching your excellent (as always) video, I think I shall make more general use of it and go out sometimes with just it and the camera. Thank you!
Dear Sir, I have had this lens. and have mostly used it for photographing wild animals and the Moon. Occasionally I even used it with the in-camera digital tele-converter. I have been happy with the lens which I bought it on-line at equiv. $330. With my best regards and I am glad to see you are in good health .
Thanks for your wonderful video. This was my first Olympus lens and even though I purchased several Pro series lenses, this one has not been relegated at all. Greetings from Spain.
Michigan, here. I have the 14-150 as well, and I think Olympus created a great value in that lens. The images aren't really distinguishable from my 12-40 pro lens. It's just a nice lens to have because of its zoom range. Nice video!
sir thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and beautiful photos, its really inspired me to learn more about photography and how ignorant i'm that i always blaming on my camera but after i watched some of your videos i begin to realized that it is me not the camera and lens. thank you sir.
Thank you. I hold the opinion that technology is a mixed blessing where understanding 'real' photography is no longer necessary when using a computerised camera. That is, until things don't work out!
Hello Derek. Love the presentation and the images - so much better than all the brash and sensational drivel we get on youtube so often! I have been involved in the industry since 1983 and the only thing I would mention is that some of the images seem oversaturated. Is this my monitor's calibration or do you lean towards this look? Personally I prefer to dial things down a little - in terms of contrast and saturation while adding a little micro contrast to keep things punchy.
I try to offer something a little different in terms of presentation. It is not your monitor! My images are purposely well-saturated for the commercial market I deal with. As I save to RAW and keep the original images out of camera, if a client requires a photograph from me that is not so colourful, that can be done.
@@DerekForss Thanks for the clarification Derek and all noted. The images you make are great. I was just curious about the colours as someone who studied photographic sciences back in the day. Keep up the good work!
I noticed you set the white balance to actual conditions and not to Auto. Most RUclipsrs say use Auto WB. Do you have a tutorial on this. Also very happy to see this on an EM-10 mk ii. Thanks.
Thank you for enquiry. Setting the White Balance to the actual conditions is essential if saving to JPEG as Auto WB doesn't always get it right. If saving to RAW it doesn't really matter as you can change it easily in post-production. I do have a tutorial, here is the link: - ruclips.net/video/d7QqHQYS68U/видео.html
I have the amazing 12-100 and an E-M1 Mark III, but if I’m sightseeing and photography is secondary, I find that bringing the E-M1 and 12-100 is too intrusive to my enjoyment of the experience. I have tried bringing the E-M10, the 14-42 and the 40-150R, and although light, I hate switching between lenses. I have been on the fence about buying the 14-150, but I may just have to break down and buy it. It seems like the best solution for staying light and mobile.
Thanks Derek, looks like a great lens (super shots)! I have a very similar 18-200 (27-300 equiv) Nikon DX lens that I tend to use most of the time on my SLR. I currently have the 14-42 and 40-150 kit lenses with my EM10 so can see myself thinking about this one at some point!
Outstanding image,s as usuall Derek, considering either this len,s or the 12 to 50 MM. Weather sealing is a must for this year,s Highland trip, one len,s to cover most focal lenth,s and maybe my Lumix 20MM F1.7, for certain low light shot,s. Quite agree weight consideration,s are also important, especially when your carrying all your worldly good,s in a rucksack and 2 bike pannier,s!
I often travel light and dare I say, bemused when I see other photographers weighed down my all manner of gear, much of which they won't use. Research in what to expect on a trip is very important and when conducted, one camera and one lens is often the answer! Helps to focus the mind too!
Contemplating getting a used version of this lens on a used E-M5 ii body that I just purchased. I have better (PRO) Olympus bodies and glass, but this looks like a great budget lens for a fun and carefree kit. $275 USD on the used market. "Cheap and cheerful" as you Brits often say.
Hello Mr. Forss, greetings from Texas, USA. I am a recent and first time owner of an Olympus M43 camera (I have the M5 Mark ii with the 14-150 mm lens) and simply love it. I have been looking at many videos so as to learn how to use this camera better and came across your RUclips channel and love it. I have been experimenting with taking pictures in low light like you outline but have a few questions. I am spot metering and using an EV of -0.3 like you state but not sure if I am underexposing the images too much and/or spot metering on areas that are too bright. It would be helpful to see the histogram of your shots to determine how “exposed” a typical shot should be. Would it be possible to see some examples of this information or do you have this specific information outlined or discussed in another video or your website? Thank you for your time and keep up the good work in spreading the great information about these great Olympus 43 cameras. I am actually using this camera more than my Canon R6 as it is so convenient to carry around due to the smaller and lighter form factor and many capabilities.
Thank you for your comments and email. It is really gratifying to know that my RUclips videos have been so helpful for your own photography and that you enjoy using M43 cameras. This lens is very helpful for enabling a degree of wildlife photography and landscape photography in a single lightweight lens. Otherwise, I end up taking two camera/lens combinations, one for landscape and one for wildlife, doable but not optimal for a compact carry.

Agreed that is a good lens, but you don't need to pay £500 for it, HDEW in Surrey do them white box for £249 with 1 year warranty, now that is a compelling bargain!
Thank you for your comments. Because of my Olympus (now OM Digital Solutions) connection I quote any prices from their website but leave it up to the individual to explore alternative avenues if they wish.

Yes, when compared to Pro Lenses which are more than twice the price. The 14-42 is £329, maybe I should do a new programme about that optic?
