I have the mk 1 version of this lens which is optically the same as the mk 2 but without stabilisation. It has been used on Early EP2 and then the EM5 only a few days after its release and then on the EM1 again a few days after its release, where it stays most of the time as a great walk around lens and Im quite happy to let it stay on the EM1 all the time. I find it to be as good as I need it to be and have some fine A3 and bigger prints from it. This lens is a hidden gem in use and sharper than many of my vintage primes. I have no intention of updating it or changing to an alternative lens or brand for general use. Its not the fastest lens but I like subject and location context in my backgrounds (except portraits) so the DOF is fine and I don't do stars and when its dark, I'm feet up with a beer, what else?
I recently picked up this lens on a last one clearance special and was pleasantly surprised by its performance. So light and compact on my em5 mkii body compared to my 40mm to 150mm f2.8 pro. I love the build and image quality of my pro lens but it's not so practical to always have on you. Don't let the f4 -f5.6 scare you off this lens especially if you are on a budget and aren't planning to chase fast moving subjects in low light. I managed to find it for $349 Aussie dollars which was an absolute bargain but it's definitely worth the full price if you want a general walk around all in one option. Thanks for the review as it helped me make the decision to grab the lens even though I already have some pro options in my bag.
Some nice shots there Patrick… I like that you compared the close up ability with other lenses and I love your music. I was looking for a travel lens smaller in size than my Panasonic 45-200 however your review was enough for me to decide not to buy this lens. Thank you… you have saved me some money😊
Well, the quality of the kits 14+42mm plus the 40-150mm overpass this 14-150mm. it's true that with this lens you won't need to interchange in your camera body but at a cost in sharpness and chromatic aberrations.
I have had a lot of M 4/3 lenses and cameras, I make it my policy not to mix camera and glass manufacturer as they don't correct automatically. I am going to pair the one I have bought used with an EM1 ii, to leave in my car for Justin Case.
great review with minimal chat but great pictures, I have this lens myself so helpful to me, thank you very much.
Your aperture is only as you stated for depth of field. It is 4-5.6 for what really matters, light gathering.
Many people don't knw it . thanks for making it clear.

Yes but you have also weather sealing and all in one. When I want to prioritize output, I take 12-100/4 :)

how is the lens inserted into the lumix? Sir
The mount is the same as the Olympus. It just screws in.
I think I might have the mark 1…. anyone know what’s the difference??
Weather sealing and a different coating, I think those are the only differences. Oh and the new one looks quite a bit nicer 😉
A great review thanks. You need to fix the title. It shows 14-150 instead if 12-150mm.
It's not 12-150, it's a 14-150, the mistake was in the video, not the title ;). They do make a 12-100 f/4, but that's a whole different beast.
Mystical music.....no
