Nice and clear, as all of your videos I’ve seen so far! You’re my main reference when it comes to jewellery and Rhino 🙂 Keep up your great work 💍 Greetings from Rome 🇮🇹
Nice video. Can i ask why do we need cut link from both side at 9:27 while only one side cut on link can work to fit due to another side of the link as full metal will be placed in it. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Dear PJ Chen It was too difficult to make by myself after seeing the chain picture, but I got a lot of help after seeing your RUclips , thank you very much, have a great day~
thank you for the video !!! I spent ages trying to figure out and cage editing.. all to not get the result I wanted. your way is so easy and a symmetrical outcome. Thank you ever so much
Thanks for this tutorial, I have a question, How I can do to close the shape? cause' that part it does'nt explain in the tutorial. I will appreciate your answer
Hello! Thanks for your tutorials that are really clear & super helpful for beginners like me. I've tried to mix what you taugh us in this tutorial as well as the knot ring tutorial to create a bracelet chain but I have a problem with the connexion between the first & last circle to close the bracelet. They look like they have been pressed like bread dough...Do you know what I might have been doing wrong? Thanks !!!
although I do not have a pave for cuban chain, I do have a course for all kind of stone setting include pave. you can check it out at www.pjchendesign.com
Thank you PJ. I would love to see a video on texture mapping around a buckle as this seems to be trending at the moment in Europe. Your videos are so helpful and I learn so much from them - thank you for sharing your expertise - do you offer a casting service with your designs in brass or 925 silver?
Thz for your kind and professional class. I get big Idea for your class so I give you thumbs up and subscribe. have a nice day! (sorry for my broken english...)
Thank you PJ. I was able to design both chains. What I didn't get is why you can't 3d print them? If the individual pieces are not touching each other I believe it's a printable model no? Thanks again, great tutorial. Amazing job
You are right, you can print them technically. it just economically makes sense to have machine made. You can find a lot of videos on youtube about chain manufacturing process to get the idea of chain making. However, if you plan to make a thick bracelet. You will need to 3d print and cast them.
Ok, sounds great, I'm going to take a look at those chain machines. As you can see, I'm not on jewelry business. I'm just a hobbiest maker with a 3d printer.. ☺️
hello , i'm beginner in the rhino , i have a question about : when i design any thing when i will to start in front or right or perspective ? , and how i know to moving in These trends during the design ?
HI Omneya, Welcome to my channel. If you have a sketch. I will suggest to scan the sketch and bring the image into Rhino to trace it. then you can create the thickness into solid from there. but always work on top, front, side view when tracing the images.
Great video thanks PJ. If you were to print and cast, How would you sprue it up? Would you sprue several links already connected? I have an eighty gram nine karat chain to make. I read comments below. Would you make each link separate and then join?
Just checked with my casting vendor to double make sure. for the big heavy chain, they suggests to cast them desperately but one link open and the other one is close. after polish you can assemblage together.
If your chain links are very big, you may able to sprue them separately but interlock for casting. If the chain is small. most of time are done by mass production with machine.
Hi, Technically, you can print and cast it, but it is cheaper to buy chain than 3d print then cast it, unless you have specific design that you cannot find on the market. Or the link is for a bracelet than a chain. and yes, you can also arrange stone setting on any surface in Rhino 3D. Check out my playlist "stone setting in Rhino3D", You will find useful tutorial for stone setting.
if i wanted to make the links into a necklace, how would I make the links into a circle instead of a straight line. Could I do a circular array instead of linear?
Thank you. One other question please. I’ve only seen the flow along surface command done on rings so far. Because rings have a surface to apply the command to, and in this case, a Cuban link does not have that surface. what would I use as a surface when using the command.
you can create a circle. then extrude surface. then create UV curve from that surface. After that, you will get a rectangle on CPlane. make it into a surface. place the cuban link on it. and flow along surface back to the original surface.
if you are talking about the jewelry production process, you always have stone size ready, and build the 3D model for those stones. then you will do 3D printing and casting. After polish, you can set the stones.

Now how can we make semi hollow links with meshing on the bottom?
You can make it hollow in CAD but not for casting production. many of the hollow link are done by machining not metal casting.

@@PJChenJewelryDesign Thank you so much!! Sending you the file right away! Hope you will help me to find a solution :))
How would you set these links up for casting as the link needs to be open in order to assemble the chain
yes, it apply to heavy chain link. and you will need to assemble them after casting
Thank you so much for the video! I have a question. If I want a different chain, with the hole not symmetrical with the profile, how can I do?
you can make the rail in any profile first before you sweep
hello PJ. thank you for your videos. I was wondering if you can post a video of pave setting in this cubain chain?. regards

Is this hollow or solid when printed out?
if the link is big enough, you can print it and cast solid then assemblage all the links after casting.

if i wanted to make the links into a necklace, how would I make the links into a circle instead of a straight line. Could I do a circular array instead of linear?
