  • On the latest Blackhawks Talk Podcast, Pat Boyle and Charlie Roumeliotis interview The Athletic's NHL Draft expert Corey Pronman to preview the 2024 class ahead of the lottery. How good is Macklin Celebrini, and how does he compare to previous No. 1 overall picks? Pronman weighs in. Plus, if the Blackhawks pick in the 2-4 range, could they target one of the top defensemen? The guys wrap up the conversation by talking about how the Blackhawks could rank No. 1 among NHL pipelines after the 2024 NHL Draft.

    Macklin will be a better point producer than Toews.

      Probably. Toews began putting a whole lot of effort into his two-way play - probably more than most coaches would recommend for someone of his offensive skill.

      It's ultimately about winning. Will Celebrini be a top 2 forward on 3 Stanley Cup champions?

    I dont trust Coreys opinions om dmen. Hes always wildy off on their rankings than the majority. He also ranked Vlasic the 17th best prospect the Hawks had before this season. Vlasic took people by surprise but in no world was he all the way down to 17 in his own system.

    Who is a better prospect, Levshunov or Demidov? I think its Demidov by a mile.

    • @rexwu7849
      @rexwu7849 2 месяца назад +2

      Levshunov is a little safer imo. He's already over there's always a chance the situation in Russia breaks down and players like Michkov, Demidov, and Silayev are prevented from coming over

      There was some talk a few weeks ago that Russia was limiting who were getting passports. I’d be very careful about selecting a Russian with that early draft. I hope Davidson gets assurances first.

      Apples vs. oranges. Do you want offense or more defense? I might go with the full-sized NHL type player in Levshunov. Demidov is a bit undersized and, as the Stanley Cup playoffs demonstrate every year, size matters. Recent Blackhawks prospects are already a semi-smurf team (Bedard, Nazar, Wyatt Kaiser) and they need to start adding size and muscle in their prospect pool, e.g., Cole Beaudoin, Charlie Elick, etc,. On the other hand, Demidov would be a fantastic pairing on the wing with Connor Bedard. Can't lose with either one.

      @rexwu7849 I can't remember a Russian picked in round 1, yet alone top 10, who didn't come over.

      Demidov is in a tier by himself just below Celebrini in my opinion. His ceiling is as high as anyone in the last two drafts besides Bedard. I think if he was Canadian, we could go above Macklin imho.

    • @michelleblanc9435

      I would be hesitant in picking Demidov on the fact that he is a Russian . Who knows whether he would be able to leave Russia
      In a year or two from now . I worry it would end up being a lost draft .

    At #1 it's Celebrini. After that, vould be one of a number of guys. Either way they're getting a good player. Worst they can draft is #4. I'm more interested if they make a trade to move up Tampa's #20 pick? Hoping Dean Letourneau falls to them in round 2

    • @dlphcoracl9645
      @dlphcoracl9645 2 месяца назад +1

      This is dead on. If a few select prospects fall to No. 10 or thereabouts, specifically Cayden Lindstrom, Cole Eiserman or Tij Iginla, I hope they package their No. 20 pick and one of their 2nd round picks (ideally not No. 34) to move back up into the lower end of the lottery.

      @dlphcoracl9645 I doubt Lindstrom would drop to 10. Ignila may. Don't know about Eiserman? Some people have him in the top 10, others have dropped him out of the top 10. Seen Yakemchuk in top 3 D-men. Seem mock drafts of him falling to 12 to 16. Bob McKenzie has Catton and Eiserman out of the top 10. If the Hawks don't get first over all it will be difficult to predict who they'll puck

      He’s been incredibly right in some drafts. He doesn’t need to be any of the things you said if he has connections with nhl team scouts which he does. That argument about playing is one of the most simple minded arguments I’ve heard.
