Here is the next part in my Creating A Great Tone series for our Line 6 Helix. Over the past while, I have had many questions about how to incorporate external fx pedals into the Helix. I figured it was about time I address this topic. I hope this video helps those who need help in this area to get up and running quickly with whatever external devices they would like to use along with the Helix. Thanks so much for watching and please subscribe to my channel if you are so inclined...

The La Grange has been my favourite drive since I found it about 3 years ago! That is such a great drive pedal!
Great video, Jason. Thank you.
It really is such a great pedal 😀 Thanks you so much and my pleasure!
yeah that pedal had a delicious tone when he turned it on. like night and day.
This helped!! Thanks brother!!
Great clear video
Thank you so much 😀
Absolutely great video Jason , will need to try this with my dejavibe mini mk2 just to compare for that trower tone
Thank you much Alan 😁 Will be cool to so how that works out...let me know!
Excellent. Thanks
Jason, GREAT Video! Really helpful! Where should one put a "looper" in there chain? I just bought the Singular Sound Aero. I'm not sure where I should put it in my chain. Thanks!
Good video Jason. Do you know if the EFX Loop block takes up less DSP than a typical effects block and if so that might be another reason some might want to use 1 or more of their favorite effects pedals OUTSIDE of the Helix, to save DSP for other DSP hungry eefects to be used INSIDE the Helix.
Hi Jason, not sure if you will pick this up but how does this interact with impedance ? For example if I run into a pedal and then the instrument in the impedance will be set by that pedal, correct ? What about if the fx block is first in line ? What is the impedance set too ?
So, when I turn on the loop, I get bad tonesuck. Like, pretty noticeable signal loss. The second I hit Bypass and bypass the FX Loop block, it goes away. I have 1 pedal in the loop only. (A Boss RC looper). Doesnt seem to matter where I put it in the signal chain or what I do. I set my inputs to Line level. Any advice?
Hi Jason, I love all of your RUclips videos. You simplify things on the Helix for me. I’m an older guy and tech seems to mystify me in a confusing way. So thanks. The helix is awesome for most of my needs, but a question about external effects. I can’t seem to get the Wah sounds I prefer from the Helix. I have a Dunlop MC404 CAE Wah Pedal that I just love. Can I use it the same way you are incorporating the Lagrange?
yes
The best info I could find on external fx routing into Helix by far. How would you send /return stereo signals? I have reverb/delay rack gear that I would like to send to my Helix rack in stereo. Thank you sir and rock on!
I have the same question. Jason - any advice?
I'm searching for the same answer too. I guess it's a matter of using two of external loops in parallel (if your outboard FX have stereo ins and outs)
I've since discovered the mono/stereo drop down menu in Helix Edit for the sends/returns. However when I add a cab IR, even dual mono, unfortunately the wide stereo image is badly affected. I tried running the IR's in parallel but get the same issue.
I have the same question. i have a H9 and want to save DSP in the Helix but want to run it in a stereo loop
Hey Jason, great stuff! Question on utilizing a new product with helix along these lines. First my situation, i use helix as my backup for certain venues. Love my amp and pedal setup. That being said I enjoy most Clean and modulated sounds out of helix however never have gotten to find the right crunch tone oor amp model usong crunch/dirt.
I recently purchased the orange stamp terror amp in a box, a 20 watt that Im thinking of using with helix for crunch tones only. This is an amp in a box, just introd at NAMM, u prob saw it. So Helix with orange on certain snapshots, to Mixing board to FOH. I use in ears, no amp or cab on stage with helix. Suggestions and thoughts on this?
Skip the amp. They make it in pedal form. Get the pedal and wire it just like he did here.
While waiting on L6 to come up with a feedback FX could you do a video on the Freqout pedal ,using it in front of the Helix and also in the FX loop where its left on and set for a stomp footswitch? I think the pedal can be an awesome FX if used sparingly, when needed. Thanks
Unfortunately I no longer have the Freqout pedal...
@@JasonSadites Okay that's cool .What did you think about it and would it work in the loop of the helix or need to be out front? I have a few tunes that need feedback like rebel yell ect..
I believe the manual suggested having it out front...
What amp and cab did use ?
Jason would this be the way to do on the Stomp also?
Yes if the Stomp also has an EFX loop block available it would operate the exact same way
Jason I use my fuzz face and other various OD pedals and I get crazy hissing unless I hard gate after my external fxblock. Is this a common problem or am I missing something within the Helix settings?
Have you tried noiseless patch cables?
I gave up on using the FX loop on my stomp xl , got a lot of horrible hum and noise and a hum sound that was in since with the blinking of the tap tempo light.
Tried everything from hundreds of suggestions and still sucked.
Can i rename fx loop 1 to other name ? HOW ?
So can you use 4 external effect pedals at once ? 🤔
