    Great video, the concept of "in the room" and cutting through the mix is so crucial as musicians playing in live shows, rehearsals and alone; as a gigging musician the Helix gives me the option to control the sound in that level in real time, love this tool. thanks for sharing Jason.

    This was my favorite episode you’ve done, and was So Beneficial...Poison in Power is a Great song, and how genius, to get us to listen to it 27 times, in 1 tutorial 😉
    I Loved how the bass and drums were impacted , and this is where many mix arguments happen in band, as well as demonstrating how critical it is to pick a producer who agrees with your vision , but knows how to maximize it! ❤️

    8k tends to sit well in the mix to my ears. It's also good to be aware of how tired you are and how long you've been mixing. Fresh ears vs tired ears can have a huge impact as well.

    Great and informative video once more Jason! I kind of preferred some aspects of both 8khz and 5khz so maybe the correct answer for me in this scenario would be somewhere in between, 6.5 or something like that.

    Great video Jason. Wonderful rhythm section there, wow. I'm just playing by myself in my little basement studio. I don't do a lot of recording. I tend to prefer a more sizzling type of tone and I don't do a lot of high cut if at all. I usually play at lower volumes so I like to hear a bit more top end. As I turn up, for those times when I can, I find I'm dialing down my highs because things get too shrill. I tended to prefer the no cut here in your video. Maybe my ears are bad I don't know lol. I hope you do something in the future about dealing with the low end which is my struggle at the moment. I'm noticing a lack of clarity and bite on my low end, too flubby or sloppy for my liking.
    I can highly recommend Jason's latest album Brief Eclipse. I have it and it's great.

      Thank you so much Carlo and so glad you are enjoying the new album :-) It really does come down to personal preference so much, I always laugh when folks talk like what they do is the only way! If you are looking for more clarity, try using an eq with a frequency around 400-450hz with a fairly wide Q between 1.0-1.4 and pull that back a couple db or however much you need and see if it gives you more clarity and less mud..hope that helps!

    Depends on the quality of the IR, a good professional IR of superb quality may allow you to keep the hi cuts at around 10-12khz just because it is a very close representation of the miced speaker. With a simulation of a cab that does not hold these qualities, sometimes you have to bump it down to say 4-5khz. Anything below is too dark or weirdly tubby.

    Jason, Do you think that you can convince Line 6 incorporate a visual EQ in future updates? That would be a HUGE help for me and I would assume several other users.

    Song is killer. Marco is an amazing drummer. Its weird to me that there are guitarists out there that would cut out at 3Khz. To each is own tho. I personally always stick with the 100hz/10khz. In your context the 8 sounds perfect. I might have to try going down to 8 sometime. Enjoying your content. Keep it up

    GREAT video - and I think really settles an argument that I have been battling with. As much as we love that "amp in the room" sound... it's not super useful beyond how you hear yourself on stage... To cut into a mix in a band or a recording, it's a very different sound.
    Could be interesting to do different high cuts on different outputs... do a 3khz cut kinda thing to stage monitor or FRFR but send XLR with the 8khz'ish cut out to FOH. Best of both worlds?

    Just watched this to try to get some feeling for how to tame high end. My scenario is a bit different ... I play mostly single coils through a Boss Katana Artist, and have been finding it hard to get tones that don't get too intense on the high end without rolling all of the treble off ... which can leave lower register notes lacking in definition. I set the high cut global filter to 12khz ... but playing today, I still wasn't happy. I actually prefer the 5khz version in your video, so I will try going down to that kind of level to see if I can get a more usable treble control back on my amp. Thanks for the insight!     Def. agree with 8k maybe slightly lower, but not only can you hear the guitars better at 8k also the bass, cymbals, snare def the better mix.

      Yeah most certainly :-) If I was doing a serious mix on this I would likely tweak things more than just keeping everything exactly the same. Such easy tweaks to make :-)

    Great Info. You mention applying the High Cut in the Cab block. Is there a difference in doing cuts there before delay+reverb compared to after (e.g. cuts in the Out Block)?

      Thanks much 😁 Yeah with the cuts after the verb for instance they will apply to the verb also. But I often have cuts on the verbs themselves in their own block.

      Correction, meant the high/low cuts in the Global EQ not the Out Block. Been using the Global EQ but assume may be better tweeting it in the Cab and Reverbs instead. Also, noticed going from 3kHz to 8kHz it moves the perceived placement forward and back. Thinking can place the rhythm guitar back a bit and bring the lead forward by setting them with different high cuts. Very cool and learned a lot. Thanks.

      Gary, I actually never use the Global Eq. I did a video about the Global Eq talking about that recently. And yes you most certainly could use different amounts of cuts on different tracks to have them sit differently in the mix :-)

    Question on topic: How are the high/low cuts different on the Cab/Ir blocks and the Eq blocks? I assume slope and/or q. Is one far more drastic?

      Yes the cuts are different between cab blocks and eq blocks. The eq blocks have a steeper slope therefore a more dramatic sound at the same settings. Hope that helps :-)

      None of this is accurate. I do prefer to use stock cabs for workflow reasons and I am happy with the sounds I get with them. I have nothing against IRs in anyway. I also DO use high cuts in cab block quite often, especially when working in Stomp.

    This was interesting. 3k is too much. Sounds like you throw a blanket on the cab. What about cutting the rhythm guitars at 3 or 5k and leaving the 8k air on leads to give them more presence? I have a two guitar band and I do a little LR pan and cuts/boost to different freqs to each to create space in the live mix.

      Yeah for sure, there are all sorts of combinations that could work depending on what is desired. This video wasn't to exhaust all possibilities but more just to demonstrate what the cuts sound like. But most certainly mixing and matching is a great idea to get to the final product you want :-)

      I agree with this... I think I'd do the rhythm's with a tougher cut so they don't compete as much with the solos... I'd definitely do the rhythm's at 5 and leave the solo at 8... MIGHT even try the rhythm's at 3 to give a bit more space for the reverbs

      If I was actually mixing this for a real record there are a lot of things I would likely have done. This video was simply to throw some comparisons out so folks can have a reference as to how the cuts affect the sounds. Wonderful to have the ability to have all these options at our disposal 😀
