Every question I’ve had along the way of my first knitting project you’ve had a video for explaining exactly what I needed to know. Your channel is such a treasure!
This video is very well done and extremely helpful. I'm an experienced knitter but don't knit buttonholes very often so I forget all the steps to the one row bind off buttonhole and this was exactly what I needed. I could see clearly what was being done and I could follow in real time and got my perfect buttonhole. Also, I don't think I ever knew the trick about slipping the stitches from the back loop or twisting them around when casting them on to make the edges firm and tight. THANK YOU!
Thank you! I’ve just started knitting again after many years. My mum is no longer here to help me when I get stuck, but your videos have been a godsend!❤❤
Just finished 5 buttonholes for a granddaughter's sweater using the horizontal buttonhole. Rewatched the video as I did each one to get it right. Thanks, Suzanne!
Me exactly! Just did five buttonholes on a granddaughter's sweater and "rewound" to follow the video for each one (so I wouldn't miss a step) and they all turned out perfectly.
Thank you Suzanne, every time I’m facing options I’m hedging about, I come here and all of a sudden things make sense as to what the right decision should be. Appreciate you!
LISTEN TO THE EXPERT AND DO WHAT SHE SAYS... LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. I always tied a knot and then hid the yarn. That's not professional indeed. These buttonhole bands are so beautiful. The horizontal is my preference but I love them all. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I truly appreciate your kindness. Your viewers are as grateful as me. I have to sit down and concentrate. Sometimes I find my balls of yarn downstairs or under the bed. With 9 cats ages between 20 years and 6 months, it is scary. When the balls of yarn roll downstairs the next recipient is my 7 month Newfoundland. Munch munch and then run away with it. That doesn't stop me from knitting with a new ball of yarn. Thanks for sharing and caring. HAPPY NEW YEAR🍾🍾🍾
As always, you are my go-to knitting video person because you are so clear and thorough. HOWEVER, for loooong videos like this one, video timestamps would be very easy for you to include, and would be a big time saver, so each of your 87K+ subscribers doesn't have to poke around in a 20 minute video to home in on the exact segment they need. Don't get me wrong, it's very useful to watch this video in its entirety to decide which buttonhole you want to use. But when revisiting it to get to the ONE you want to use, timestamps would be much appreciated by thousands of knitters who love that you share your vast knowledge with us! To wit, bone structure/timestamps for this video: 0:50 for the beginning of the YO eyelet buttonhole 2:23 for the beginning of the 3-row YO eyelet buttonhole 3:18 for the beginning of the horizontal one row buttonhole 7:50 for the beginning of the vertical buttonhole 9:10 how to work the SECOND row for ALL of the buttonholes 11:30 how to work the SECOND row for ALL of the buttonholes 13:32 buttonholes don't need to be very big, even for biggish buttons-comparing how each buttonhole looks & whether it's reversible 14:25 weaving in the ends for the vertical buttonhole 17:40 shows how biggish buttons fit into tiny buttonholes
This tutorial is amazing. It is clear and concise. I also appreciate that you took the time to explain why you choose a specific way of doing things. I believe that a truly great teachers do not teach just a skill. The why allows a learner to apply it later in other situations. Application is the ultimate goal of teaching. Thank you.
It's been awhile since I've knitted a cardigan! I really needed a refresher course on the horizontal one row buttonhole. And yes, I do agree it is the best of them all. And it seems so hardy so I can wear my sweater over and over and over again! Thanks Suzanne :D
Thank you so much for this video. I was so afraid of the buttonholes on my cardigan that I put off finishing it. Once I found your video my buttonholes were so easy. The video was very well filmed and your verbal explanation so detailed.
This is amazingly clear and helpful video, so good quality. Easy to follow. Making my first cardigan buttonholes ever, now with your help. Thank you very much!
Hello dear Suzanne☺ Thank you again for these very excellent methods to create button holds! I have a lot of them, of course, but your technic shows that it can be worked so much better!!! I have saved it in my RUclips videos!! I wish you and your family a lucky transition to New Years Eve, love, peace and good luck in 2019 !!! GittaLloreley from Germany🎆🎶🐞🍀😇😇😇🍀💞
Suzanne, can you please make just a video of the one row buttonholes in K2, P2 rib as you did here and also how to wrap the stitch if starting in the purl section. Thanks. Some holes start in the purl and others start in the knit.
I was able to making super neat buttonholes on my first ever cardigan do to this tutorial! I did get a little over excited and made one too many though hahaha
Suzanne, for the horizontal button hole, do you have a video that explains the math of buttonhole placement? In other words, for a band that is Y stitches long, Knit X stitches, slip that first stitch to begin the buttonhole, etc. That is the part that gives me difficulty. Your explanation for knitting the button hole is excellent.
I have a question. I'm making a cardi for a gift, and don't know whether the recipient will be wearing it buttoned, unbuttoned, or will often/frequently be buttoning and unbuttoning. I want to make buttonholes that will stand up well to the wear from being repeatedly buttoned and unbuttoned. Do you have an opinion on the sturdiness of these buttonholes? Can you "rate" the buttonholes, from sturdiest to most fragile? Thanks.
This is a great question. A lot depends on the size of the button too. If they are small buttons, the yarnover buttonhole is very good. If they are a little larger the one row horizontal buttonhole and the vertical buttonhole are very sturdy as well.
The horizontal buttonhole looks much better from the “wrong side”. The knit column of stitches does not pull in as much as on the right side. Could you work that on wrong side???

I am a happy knitter. Thank you for showing all buttonholes.
You are so welcome!
Once again your channel has saved me from confusing pattern instructions. Thank you.

I do not. But, count that first slipped stitch as the first buttonhole stitch. Maybe that will help you.🧶
Is it important to start on wrong side to start yarn over buttonholes in this demonstration
Tysm! ❤

Hi Suzanne, do you have any recommendations for the placement of our row buttonholes in 2X2 rib ?

I agree. Happy New Year and Happy Knitting!
