If Hikaru didn't stall the time, every chess player would have thought it was stupid of him not to stall, no one will claim it's for "sportsmanship" Just like in the NBA, if a team didn't stall with less than 30secs on the clock and a 2 point lead, everybody would call that a stupid ass decision.
It's 50/50 lmao. It's not sure that Magnus would win the last match. The points were 14.5-12.5 which means that Hikaru won more games so it's not unthinkable that he will win another. It's stupid to think that players should go all out when they are already winning 🤣. By stalling the time it was a sure win. In chess terms, it was check(get an early lead)... And mate(maintain that lead).
If Hikaru didn’t stall, i will definitely say he’s stupid. Which option will you choose: 1. You’re leading and can end the match and win it. 2. You’re leading and can end the match and win it, but decided to risk it by giving a chance for your opponent to catch up.

Its great to see Magnus, probably the best ever so far, embrace speed chess and not just traditional chess. Speed chess is a great way to build prize pools for the players, more pros better chess.
Many people seem to think this feature of bleeding out the clock in SCC matches doesn't add entertainment value, but as Hess and Naroditsky point out, it helps players win. I like this thinking.
Why do people complain about Hikaru running the clock. It's like many other sports. You can run the clock in soccer, American football, basketball, boxing, everything. No one bats an eye because that is a valid tactic. Use the clock to your advantage, and Hikaru did just that.
To the people who are complaining that Hikaru is stalling or is "unsportsmanlike", man, no team in the NBA that is ahead by 1 point, with ball in possession, with 14 seconds remaining on the clock will say "hey guys, let's shoot the ball right now so that the other team has a chance to draw a play and possibly win the game". That team will be called out by their fans, the coach will be called many names, stupid being the most tame one. It's part of the fucking strategy. It's not like Hikaru was stalling to accept the next match, he is stalling within his game clock.
MAGNUS played his best ever but HIKARU beat him. Hikaru took advantage of every opportunity that came his way including using the time to his advantage. This is a display of astute strategy showing that winning is not only about scoring high but preventing the opponent to catch up by wasting the time in his favor and not giving his opponent a chance to play one more time. That is brilliant. Magnus was given the opportunity to win when he tied the game with still a lot of time for him to take the lead and the momentum is on his side. But Hikaru was able to neutralize him and even score one point more. This proves that in this game, Hikaru is the better player and he deserves to be crowned as the champion of Speedchess 2022.
If Magnus had only resigned earlier in his lost positions he would have had a shot in that last game. Danya and Hess kept telling him to, turns out they were right.

Making such complicated games look intuitive to beginners/average chess players is really an impressive achievement. Without commentary I would get lost after a few moves. Their passion and authentic interest in the game makes it really entertaining to watch as well. Thank you a lot for this!

You know something shifted in the gears of the universe when even the tournament bracket itself thought she score was the other way around
What an amazing match. So great to see these two top players dual like that.
I love how people complain about Hikaru running the clock while Magnus says its fine and completely fair. Some people are just unbelievable
Exactly it’s not like Magnus or any other GM wouldn’t have ran the clock. Running the clock happens in like every sport
23:23 match starts
If Hikaru didn't stall the time, every chess player would have thought it was stupid of him not to stall, no one will claim it's for "sportsmanship"
Just like in the NBA, if a team didn't stall with less than 30secs on the clock and a 2 point lead, everybody would call that a stupid ass decision.
that's jsut so weak ,,,,they should be called a SCARED TEAM if they did that ,, i dont watch NBA though
So basically, hikaru was scared to play longer with magnus. Can't blame him tho, burning the time was the only option to beat Magnus😂
Which option will you choose:
1. You’re leading and can end the match and win it.
2. You’re leading and can end the match and win it, but decided to risk it by giving a chance for your opponent to catch up.
@@incognito5416 yeah, that and beating the man for a 14.5 to 13.5 score, after 28 games and 2.5 hours of Speed Chess.
magnus , the only player talking after losing , Respect
Thanks for asking a question and just letting them talk. So wonderful to hear from them.
It's so inspiring that someone can be this good at chess or anything actually. A whole life of dedication!! 👏
Magnus should've used the "Hikaru And GothamChess Tell You To MOVE" extension
Hans Niemann fans before the match: if Magnus loses he will say Hikaru is a cheater.
Magnus after losing: this was a great match, Hikaru is a beast he played incredible chess! Also his time wasting strategy was fair and square.
44:33 'now both players can breathe a sigh of relief...'
Both players: 🤔🤔
hikaru using everything to his advantage! my streamer
Epic ! Great battle as expected !
Thank you GM Hess and GM Naroditsky for making this event incredibly exciting and so entertaining !
This went the opposite of what I expected!
Expected Magnus to win in 5+1 but he lost horribly only to crush hikaru in both the faster time controls which I'd have expected hikaru to win.
Yeah, and Magnus saying he was more comfortable against Hikaru in lower time controls was wild!
3:22:16 "Right, chat! Classic right triangle!"
Clock is part of these matches guys. Burning the clock if your up is just good match strategy. Dont get all salty for someone being strategic. Ita done in all sports. In the nba wheb your up 20 with 2 mins left u play slow ball and use the entirre shot clock etc etc etc. Was an amazing comeback by Magnus and congrats to hikaru on besting the best player in the world and his biggest rival.
yeah he got scared to not play another game agaisnt magnus ,, come on hikaru dont be like that ,,,,
@@harshkumarf4379 are you mentally challenged?
Playing slow is different than just sitting idle and make a move in 3 fold repetition is different.
@@harshkumarf4379 yea hikaru should move fast and gamble another game and if he lose they will go to armageddon that can make hikaru lose all..why take the risk lmao
@@harshkumarf4379 it only works if you’re up. Also if magnus didn’t lose so many games initially hikaru couldn’t have stalled.
Danya and Robert are such a great pairing. Absolutely loved their commentary and chemistry. Well done lads!
No one can complain about Hikaru stalling, people can shockingly use time to their advantage in the frikin speed chess championship
I agree with that the Hikaru-Magnus match-ups are as good as it gets, in speed chess. I find it amazing to watch, the finals of 2022 and 2023 and other events.. hope to see more in the future!
I think it's amazing that Mangus shared his thought and did that kind of an extensive interview.
Ja da hast du recht
@@CG-bt9kn He only went on camera to say theses simple words - I'am still better then Hikaru!!!!!!
Here I am, back again in July 23 to watch this again its entirety. Superb entertainment, not least because of Danya and Bobby. Thank you all guys.
Why do people complain about Hikaru running the clock. It's like many other sports. You can run the clock in soccer, American football, basketball, boxing, everything. No one bats an eye because that is a valid tactic. Use the clock to your advantage, and Hikaru did just that.
💯
That was the best Magnus interview I've ever seen. Incredible event.
Naroditsky and Hess are hands down the Messi’s of chess commentary.
Exactly
I love trying to guess their next move and try playing along in my head😂
No need to cover/hide the main board when you're only changing cameras. Please use a different transition animation
Everyone crying about the clock stalling ignoring the fact he still had to win more games to win the match
the live chat is 50% world cup lol
MAGNUS played his best ever but HIKARU beat him. Hikaru took advantage of every opportunity that came his way including using the time to his advantage. This is a display of astute strategy showing that winning is not only about scoring high but preventing the opponent to catch up by wasting the time in his favor and not giving his opponent a chance to play one more time. That is brilliant. Magnus was given the opportunity to win when he tied the game with still a lot of time for him to take the lead and the momentum is on his side. But Hikaru was able to neutralize him and even score one point more. This proves that in this game, Hikaru is the better player and he deserves to be crowned as the champion of Speedchess 2022.
this is not brilliant ,, this is just weak ,, gives of a vibe that he was scared ,,,
Magnus did not play his best ever lol.
bro said Magnus played his best💀
Dude you must have been new to chess to think this is the best of carlsen
@@harshkumarf4379 ????
Hikaru in 2022 just peaked his chess career
If Magnus had only resigned earlier in his lost positions he would have had a shot in that last game. Danya and Hess kept telling him to, turns out they were right.
The commentary and the interviews was amazing, thanks Danya and Robert
*were
Okay, this is up there among the greatest matches I’ve ever seen. Also, I just love how happy Magnus is. It’s some Thanos smiling when someone finally lands a blow shit, lol.
Sportsmanship out of control in the postgame interviews. You love to see it.
Magnus is the Messi of Chess, he just had a bit of a bad day
This day, he was more like the Mbappé with Hikaru being Messi.
@Maxtor good comparison, Superman is better than the flash as he has both speed and strength. But the flash has more speed than Superman and using physics the more speed = the more force = the more strength, so the flash can in turn beat Superman. That’s pretty much what happened here
messi has not had tht much dominance in football as magnus has in chess ,,,, magnus (chess) >>>> messi (football)
@@blizyon30fps86 more speed does'nt mean more force or more strength
@@harshkumarf4379go and study first 💀
How are these guys such good commentators lol. Keep these guys around!
The world championship match we all wanted to see!
1:55:00 lmfao the faces Hikaru starts to make are priceless!
What a joy to watch these two.
Is Danya having a stroke in the background at 2:39:21 ?? What the heck is that sound LOL
Hikaru = Messi = Curry; Magnus = Ronaldo = LeBron
20:15 that is absolutely not an impossible stat to quantify on paper
% Accuracy of moves played when under 10 seconds, or whatever. Just like they show accuracy after a full game
The time is part of the game. The same as in football when a team takes a victory formation.
Yes or when they just run the ball with 5 minutes to go. Obviously time is a factor and can be used
That few minutes which Hikaru wasted purposefully paid him at last...
Hikaru is the GOAT. He is the only player who is immensely skilled in all the 4 formats- classical, rapid, blitz, bullet. He is also the most popular chess streamer and the richest chess player. Hikaru is a legend.
Magnus might be richer considering his play magnus group got acquired for $82.9 million recently and his shareholding was 10%. Both should be around $50M imo.
Hikaru is definitely a legend. But he is also certainly not “the only player immensely skilled in all the 4 formats” and he is far from being the GOAT as it stands. Happy to see him win and put on an entertaining performance, but let’s not also blow things out of proportion lol
@@daxfern not only he is not the only player, but all time Magnus is better in all formats
Magnus with 5 World Chess Champion, 3 World Rapid Chess Champion, 5 World Blitz Chess Champion and literally the highest rated chess player in HISTORY, record for the longest unbeaten streak in classical chess, the #1 player since 2011. Genuinely curious, are u new to the chess community??
@@incognito5416 this mangoose fangirl is coping so hard ^ must be sad a player who spent less otb time, has the highest blitz accuracy ever, and also the highest online rating ever XDDD. 5x world speed chess champion, soon to be 6x and more tears coming 😛
Hikaru finally overcame his fear of Magnus
Most entertaining chess match I've ever seen bar none! Congrats to two great sportsmen of chess and thank you to both of you for giving us something so entertaining and exciting.
Im new to the chess world and i find these matchups fascinating
Wonderful event, thank you very much, it was really great fun. Congratulation to both Magnus and Hikaru, they really dominated the field and offer a great show for all of us
This is a billion times more exciting than football or soccer.
OooOooh ahhhhh! Awesome sauce! Def rooted for Naka, I must admit. These guys are beyond amazing together. The two goats.
excellent commentary by danya and hess...watching the hikaru-magnus SCC finals between 2019-2023 is some of my favorite chess of all time. I think Hikaru is now (end of 2024) losing some of his speed, so I don't think we'll get this again. But wow, what a match!
With that said... Hikaru is such a great guy, been following him since ICC days. Incredible talent, very happy for him.
Announcers are the true mvp's.
Is what I'd say if this wasn't Hikaru vs Magnus.
Seriously everything about this was amazing.
I love both Magnus and Hikaru😭♥️
Magnus is such a mood with his comfy hoodie in his messy room just playing chess championship like its a twitch stream convo
