Danya + Aman commentary was so awesome! Hilarious combo.
Danya has been such a joy to have here because he can genuinely and consistently keep up with a lot of the lines players are thinking about, and the practical implications on the position. I'd be completely lost without his commentary. It's a treat we have someone so well spoken who happens to be a top 10 (or better) player in the format. Was awesome for this match to be a nail biter too. Chess fans just keep winning :3
I wouldn't say top 10 more top 50 or top 100, but he is quicker than most of them at seeing crazy lines. And he is such good commentator overall. A SCC final without Danya isn't the same.
And Aman I'd say is his equal. He's not so fast at understanding exactly what the players are thinking but he's exceptional at breaking down very positional amd strategic concepts to weaker players. Weaker players of course being almost everybody watching the final. He's also just hilarious.
@@CuddyaPol Hmm you're absolutely right, good correction. When I said top 10 I was thinking in terms of 1+0, not SCC format where he would be much much lower (though of course still great). But the reason he's probably so good at 1+0 is he's like like lightning at spotting tactics and short term plans, so he catches stuff and decisions I would have 0 chance of figuring out without engine analysis and explaining practical decisions. It also means when he sees the 'right' move he might not have played he can understand the goal behind it almost immediately, like being given the first move in a puzzle. It's so much better than watching people primarily react to an eval bar and read continuations off the engine.
This also helps understand what is a blunder and what isn't (-2.5 for a punishment that is nearly impossible to find in the time format is close to meaningless, and tons of theoretical draws fall apart with +1 increment). And he doesn't just catch these things, he has a really good way of presenting that info concisely, but simply enough for bad players like me.
@@user-svqmbiv I love Aman's personality. I think it's hard to get as much out edge wise when Danya is always pointing out continuations and such, but I always like what Aman adds. Just in terms of SCC format the ability to tackle the positional and strategic overview in anything besides pretty general terms kinda gets lost especially whenever players live on increment. I definitely appreciate his commentary though, that's why I mentioned the duo.
considering that hikaru has said danya is one of the fastest tacticians in the world and best blitz players, i'm gonna go out on a limb and say he is in fact top 10 and your assessment and opinion is absolutely worthless.@@CuddyaPol
We are in a golden age of chess commentators thanks guys. Thrilling match today.
I was literally thinking how bad chess commentators are. I would love some of whatever you are smoking
@@therealgoatcheese1 You seem to be alone with this opinion, maybe you're the one inhaling something i.e. your neighbors smoke? 😂
@@Siatkowkarzadzi not alone with the opinion kiddo it's well known how much of a laugh the commentators are in the professional chess community, you doxed yourself ;)
@@therealgoatcheese1 Well then I agree there should be a "raw game" stream for pros. Nevertheless, commentary is for the 99,9% of (amateur) viewers who can therefore follow the game to some extent. So you're quite "alone" in this scale 😛
And I don't see why Danya or Hess would be laughed at. Are they, and if so - why?
@@Siatkowkarzadzi they are not, he's trolling. Danya and Aman are amazing commentators

LMAO thats hilarious I didn't notice that.
Felt like a freudian slip from Danya, maybe?
@@mattyb808 he obviously just misspoke.
i kept replaying that part and could not stop laughing. hilarious. i’m curious if Danya meant to say “unfortunately” or he was deadpan trolling Hikaru lol
I sure hope so lol. You think he would have caught him self and apologized on air that he misspoke. Danya is very calculated and well spoken in what he says online…
As a Magnus simp, I thank Hikaru for lighting a fire of motivation under Magnus. He isn't satisfied until he blows Hikaru out of the water, according to post interview. Very exciting!
i agree and now we can certainly expect him for the next scc

Two of my favorites ever. Magnus and hikaru were fun too.
They both are so casual to others until they meet each other. Very rare to see that.
This was the People’s Championship - and will be again next year!
The 'El Clasico' if you will
lol no hikaru was the real champ. Demolished magnus in 5+1 and blitz
I’ve been watching these two amazing players, for more than a decade. They eventually turned out to be my two favorite players, and when they face each other I don’t care who wins. But I gotta admit that I become a tad happier when Magnus wins.

For online speed chess event actually.
For OTB classical, rapid, Blitz it's always magnus.
Only 3+1, 1+1 probably Hikaru is better or even.

Danya and Aman were on fire with their funny comments today - the Magnus hater impressions, the quips about airports and flights, the analogies that increasingly got unhinged - 10/10 commentary
Their chemistry is really amazing. I specially love how Aman enjoy the lines and sequences thrown by Danya, half learning, half in awe.
Yeah Danya in the best chess commentator in the world imo…
Yep best duo by far!
At the start of the 3+1 segment, when Magnus was losing game after game, I think even the most devoted Magnus fans started doubting about his chances. But he proved again that he's capable of turning things around. And he did. Really a shame to all Hikaru fanatics (can't call them fans), who insulted Magnus throughout the match. Congrats to Magnus and props to Hikaru for a great fight!
I really doubted Magnus for that stretch. Hikaru is insanely good, the momentum was all his, and anybody can have a bad match.
I saw just as many magnus fanatics throughout it too, insulting Hikaru for playing time. Clearly, you have a biased opinion. Try in the future to look at both perspectives, where both players have fanatical fans.
Both fandoms have shit fans. It's intrinsic to all sports. People don't like seeing their team/player losing so instead of enjoying greatness they belittle amazing competition.
@@zachburkett6973 I couldn't agree more, both players have some fanatic fans. let them throw shit at each other. And let the adults talk real chess.
@@zachburkett6973 I take issue with the time thing but not with any misguided notion of chivalry or whatever. Hikaru is doing what he needs to do to win and that’s totally legit, but I wish it didn’t deny us more games that we could have seen.
With that said, you’ll never hear me insult naka over that. He’s an all-time great and a class act to boot, and the time thing does increase his chances of winning. It just has that unfortunate side effect, which I don’t love.
@4:39:58 - did anyone else notice Magnus' sly smile and the glint in his eye when he was quoting Hans Niemann? I didn't see anyone in the comments mentioning this.
What a time to be alive, to be able to witness two of the best to ever do it. Congratulations to Magnus and Hikaru, that was amazing
Last game was crazy, cant believe hikaru didnt find the mate to take it to extra time
4:18:10 "I'm keeping the kings on the board" - sure, great strategic decision :D
the chemestry that these 2 bring is amazing. Loved it!
Hikaru milked the clock to a loss this year, what a legend
nah just missed the win in the final game. the time he milked wouldnt have been enough if he lost that game anyway
It is a bad strategy to waste time in early segments because the score can change. As happened here. If you are up in the last segment with just just some games to come then it is good to waste time.
@@romanmueller3479 No. Even though scores change often, you're more likely to win the overall match at any point where you're also in the lead, meaning that as a percentage chance to win the match, you'd do best literally milking the shit out of every single game as long as you're in the lead, from the first game to the last.
That being said, it would look kind of silly, but gamesmanship wise, it would obviously be the better choice.
Not really, the last game was definitely lost actually, so even with extra game Hikaru would lost at least a point. It’s just bad blunders otb rather than strategical blunder
@@kluxszoh he just missed the win did he??? whatever keeps you sane brah 😂
Thank you to both competitors! That was amazing!
51:02 is sooo funny. Hikaru going Ba6 accompanied by "yea, that's what's up"-stare down on Magnus (you see his eyes shifting to the other screen, where I assume he has Magnus), just to discover when he looks back at the board that he actually lost a piece. Hilarious
that was incredible. both players were amazing and the whole match was so intense.
Hikaru's humility when he himself said it wasn't a rivalry with Magnus - claiming that it is always one-sided -- Magnus being greater than him.
But man, people know he was Magnus' archenemy.
Both great.
Hats off to Hikaru's humbleness.

Great commentary! Danya + Aman are a fantastic duo!!
What a great speech from Hikaru👏 What a respect to Magnus
he was too salty too mad but couldn't give it to GOATNUS, that's why he said "to all the morons in chat..." 😂😂😂😂
This was a great match. Props to Magnus Carlsen for once again showing why he's the best in the world now (a comeback after a 3 point deficit is huge) and kudos to Hikaru Nakamura for showing once again that he can go blow for blow against the best in the world.
Fantastic presentation of the tournament. Special mention for Danya who was there throughout. Great stuff to watch.
Magnus' greatest feat in this match was his ability to refresh himself up after Hikaru's monster onslaught in 3+1. Most players would just crumple after receiving a beating like that.
Absolutely true, we have seen it playing out like that 90% of the time on SCC. Especially against Hikaru, is game over if you're down by 3 points to him

@@lhorddrake5602 I don't think Hikaru ever crushed Magnus with big gaps in speed formats.
I think Magnus is pretty spot on with the assessment. He feels on a good day he outclasses Hikaru in SCC (based on Blitz world championships and how badly he's gapped other top players in the last two SCCs this seems likely). He also felt Hikaru completely outclassed him in the 1+0 bullet tournament recently and Magnus was nothing but complimentary to Hikaru there basically saying Hikaru was just exceptionally better at the format. Both the bullet championship and today's SCC ended with just a margin of 1 win, but Magnus obviously feels neither result tells the real story. He thinks he underperformed in SCC and was lucky to lose by just one in 1+0. From what I've seen this feels like a pretty fair assessment
Hikaru started milking clock too early. Serves right that it came to bite him back.
the best part of all this was all toxic, loud hikaru fanboys going from loud obnoxious when hikaru was leading, to a quiet little library when magnus clawed it back. 10/10 experience

Magnus and Hikaru are amazing on this tournament. I've watched the whole game and it was fun even it is a 4hrs game.
The final boss of chess won
what a match, was very exciting gg fo both
"I should win most of the time" - Magnus Carlsen
"The fact that i can compete with one of the 2 top players of all time makes me happy" - Hikaru Nakamura
both so on point
Magnus wasn't feeling well, so his words were obviously a bit dissatisfying
Hes man enough to admit his failure tho
He’s being honest. He SHOULD win most of the time. He’s the GOAT. And the current best player in the world.
both are absolutely right
Magnus move like engine !! Double exlemetion mark 👌🔥
Magnus won on a bad day. Not happy he did not crush Naka! He is only happy with big wins, not small wins! Crazy attitude.
He sure seemed happier when he lost the bullet championship against Naka and even complimented him a lot stating he is much better at bullet than he is (without increment ofc, with increment they're both on par with each other)
@@Sam-pt3qt I think he felt he did well in 1+0 and despite that was still lucky to only lose by 1. Given how many games Hikaru had the advantage which became draws (or which Hikaru drew) I understand why Magnus would feel outclassed despite losing by just 1 point.
By contrast in SCC Carlsen held wider gaps over other players and seemed to catch absolutely everything vs Wesley specifically. He has a really dominant decade of experience in World Blitz tournaments so I think he feels he should win SCC handedly and is disappointed to not do so with a solid lead. So for him he felt he overperformed in 1+0 and underperformed SCC. That's what is determining how happy he is with the result.
Hikaru vs Magnus is always exciting to watch.
Magnus beating the big bad of chess restores all my faith in the world
I guess Naka burning time really backfired in the end
SCC has really grown into the premiere event in the chess world, surpassing even the world title in terms of prestige. I'd argue the SCC winner is more endeared by fans, as the dominant player in the most watched form of chess today: online speed chess.
You should stop takimg illegal drugs, its getting a bit much for you
I already heard who won but the combination of commentary and players I may watch the whole thing anyway !
Epic. One of the best matches ever.
This rivalry between these two is reminiscent to the great rivalry between Nadal and Djokovic in tennis. The competitive spirit and intensity they bring out is only matched by the Tennis greats
4:44:56
What did danya say ? 😂😂
I think chess is the only sport where the commentary is just op. I have to listen to these dudes and watch their analysis board instead of just watching the damn game itself.
This is crazy: both these guys are so good
I know right! And Magnus and Hikaru did ok too. 🙃
Hikaru bleeding out the clock in the 3+1 may be a “completely legitimate strategy” as Naroditsky says but the problem with the strategy is you put yourself under a lot of pressure to do well in your strong segment. On a deeper level it’s a submissive strategy, refusing to play except on the terms that you prefer, which shows weakness, and that was reflected in the bullet segment. A lesser player might have been thrown off but I think at that point Magnus knew he made it right back into Naka’s head.
Shrewd assessment.
hikaru calling people in the chat " morons " ... true class!
At 19 seconds Magnus won the game. He was watching the clock and just needed to check Hikaru twice to add 2 seconds to his clock so he could run the main clock to zero.
What a game.
When?
@t45tt4tr Looks like I didn’t understand the clocks. I thought when the main clock ended the game ended. But I was wrong. They just don’t play another game. 4:19:09 is what I was referring to but I was wrong. I just checked, their individual clocks were still running. So they could have continued to play if they wanted to but Magnus offered a draw right after the main clock went to zero since he was going to win in a couple moves.
Magnus is not satisfied until he dominates and crushes all.

Kind of, or maybe Hikaru would be 5 points down if he hadn't run out the clock
After 2 games, the Lakers would be leading the series 2-0. Following a 29 points performance in Game 2, Kobe was asked during his postgame presser why he looked unhappy. His response?
