    Danya + Aman commentary was so awesome! Hilarious combo.
    Danya has been such a joy to have here because he can genuinely and consistently keep up with a lot of the lines players are thinking about, and the practical implications on the position. I'd be completely lost without his commentary. It's a treat we have someone so well spoken who happens to be a top 10 (or better) player in the format. Was awesome for this match to be a nail biter too. Chess fans just keep winning :3

    • @CuddyaPol
      @CuddyaPol 8 месяцев назад +5

      I wouldn't say top 10 more top 50 or top 100, but he is quicker than most of them at seeing crazy lines. And he is such good commentator overall. A SCC final without Danya isn't the same.

    • @user-svqmbiv
      @user-svqmbiv 8 месяцев назад +4

      And Aman I'd say is his equal. He's not so fast at understanding exactly what the players are thinking but he's exceptional at breaking down very positional amd strategic concepts to weaker players. Weaker players of course being almost everybody watching the final. He's also just hilarious.

    • @das6109
      @das6109 8 месяцев назад

      @@CuddyaPol Hmm you're absolutely right, good correction. When I said top 10 I was thinking in terms of 1+0, not SCC format where he would be much much lower (though of course still great). But the reason he's probably so good at 1+0 is he's like like lightning at spotting tactics and short term plans, so he catches stuff and decisions I would have 0 chance of figuring out without engine analysis and explaining practical decisions. It also means when he sees the 'right' move he might not have played he can understand the goal behind it almost immediately, like being given the first move in a puzzle. It's so much better than watching people primarily react to an eval bar and read continuations off the engine.
      This also helps understand what is a blunder and what isn't (-2.5 for a punishment that is nearly impossible to find in the time format is close to meaningless, and tons of theoretical draws fall apart with +1 increment). And he doesn't just catch these things, he has a really good way of presenting that info concisely, but simply enough for bad players like me.

    • @das6109
      @das6109 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@user-svqmbiv I love Aman's personality. I think it's hard to get as much out edge wise when Danya is always pointing out continuations and such, but I always like what Aman adds. Just in terms of SCC format the ability to tackle the positional and strategic overview in anything besides pretty general terms kinda gets lost especially whenever players live on increment. I definitely appreciate his commentary though, that's why I mentioned the duo.

      @@lhorddrake5602 I don't think Hikaru ever crushed Magnus with big gaps in speed formats.
      I think Magnus is pretty spot on with the assessment. He feels on a good day he outclasses Hikaru in SCC (based on Blitz world championships and how badly he's gapped other top players in the last two SCCs this seems likely). He also felt Hikaru completely outclassed him in the 1+0 bullet tournament recently and Magnus was nothing but complimentary to Hikaru there basically saying Hikaru was just exceptionally better at the format. Both the bullet championship and today's SCC ended with just a margin of 1 win, but Magnus obviously feels neither result tells the real story. He thinks he underperformed in SCC and was lucky to lose by just one in 1+0. From what I've seen this feels like a pretty fair assessment

    • @das6109
      @das6109 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@Sam-pt3qt I think he felt he did well in 1+0 and despite that was still lucky to only lose by 1. Given how many games Hikaru had the advantage which became draws (or which Hikaru drew) I understand why Magnus would feel outclassed despite losing by just 1 point.
      By contrast in SCC Carlsen held wider gaps over other players and seemed to catch absolutely everything vs Wesley specifically. He has a really dominant decade of experience in World Blitz tournaments so I think he feels he should win SCC handedly and is disappointed to not do so with a solid lead. So for him he felt he overperformed in 1+0 and underperformed SCC. That's what is determining how happy he is with the result.

    Hikaru bleeding out the clock in the 3+1 may be a “completely legitimate strategy” as Naroditsky says but the problem with the strategy is you put yourself under a lot of pressure to do well in your strong segment. On a deeper level it’s a submissive strategy, refusing to play except on the terms that you prefer, which shows weakness, and that was reflected in the bullet segment. A lesser player might have been thrown off but I think at that point Magnus knew he made it right back into Naka’s head.

They just don’t play another game. 4:19:09 is what I was referring to but I was wrong. I just checked, their individual clocks were still running. So they could have continued to play if they wanted to but Magnus offered a draw right after the main clock went to zero since he was going to win in a couple moves.

      @@blue_red_screen LOL, that doesn't matter, there's such a thing called "form" in every sport and even in chess, like today, Magnus wasn't in form as still won cause he's the GOAT. Pragg destroyed hikaru 2-0 in rapid in fide world cup? is Pragg better than Hikaru? no... he isn't, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. If chess worked like that, then there would be a new best chess player every day. Only thing that matters is the head to head. Every super GM has beaten every other super GM, so saying, "this guy lost to that guy, and I beat the guy he lost too so that means I'm better" means nothing cause he can lose the next 10 games to that guy. In head to head, it's 3-1 Magnus, that's all that matters. Either this or u actually think pragg is better than Hikaru then I know you're an idiot.
