Airplane food is generally nothing to get excited about, but there are a few airlines out there who do it better than others.
Which airline has the best food? In this video, I look back at well over 1 million miles flown (and all the airline meals I’ve had to endure) and pick my 5 favorite.
Some you might expect. But others? You might just think I’m crazy…

Scott, seriously, you’re THE MAN! I’ve been watching your videos for some time now and I’m really impressed by how you create such quality content. Even during these times where you can’t upload your usual content. You’ve found excellent solutions in my opinion! Before I found your channel I found it weird that there were flight reports that were not filmed as vlogs. They were usually really bad. But your channel taught me that it’s definitely possible to make outstanding flight reports using voiceovers! You were also one of the people who inspired me and gave me self confidence to create this RUclips channel where I want to upload flight reports and travel videos of my journey to travel to every country in the world. Thank you very much for everything you have done that has changed my life in a positive way!
You’re very welcome Philip! I’m so glad that my content is giving you the confidence to start doing this sort of thing for yourself. I agree that it’s scary to get started, but once you get going the excitement and energy you’ll feel is like a freight train. Good luck to you and your channel!
SANspotter Thank you very much for your kind words :)
Yep! Scotty is bad SSSSS! I love his stuff!
Thanks for the mention Scott! I really enjoyed creating that video! Can’t wait to release it soon.
By the way, in case anyone is curious all of my trip report videos has English subtitles (not the auto generated machine translation). Please feel free to leave your comments in English. I will reply back to you in English👍
Love the intro. Funny😁
How you integrate the sponsor video into your content is so seamless . I want you to try ANA and compare it to JAL.
You’re very welcome Kaz! I can’t wait to see that video uploaded to your channel! 👀🍿 I was supposed to fly ANA last month, but that got canceled obviously. As soon as I do, I will do a comparison video with JAL. 👍🏻
I really really shouldn't have watched this video while fasting 😂😂😂
Literally any airline that is being catered by DO &CO tend to have the best meals.
Yes I was so happy when BA went Do and Co
British airways went do and co?
Turkish Airlines I think has Do&Co. the meal was high tier quality in Economy class food, there was metal silverware
My favorite airline food memory is the dessert cart on American Airlines business class. Scoops of ice cream, chocolate syrup, candies on top, or meat and cheese slices w crackers. Yum!
Telling the Truth Doesn't Make you Negative! Much Respect From Us and we Love your Videos
Thanks Jack! You’d be surprised how many people label me as being negative for doing videos like that. 😅
SANspotter Well I have Learned the Hard way never apologize for being Truthful as in essence you end up selling your Soul and then you cease being who you are! I had Decades of not being able to speak my Mind and Now in this political correctness world we are having to swallow its created a Fairytale world that I refuse to be a part of ( Lipstick on a Pig is still a Pig ) Jean and I have the Utmost Respect for you! Job well done 👍
Scott you look legit to me...how could you not ?? Four out 5 from Asian airlines which I think says a lot !! Best meal for me ever was with Malaysia Airlines...Melbourne (Australia) to Kuala Lumpur. A prawn dish using book the cook. Normally you might be lucky to get 3 prawns...there were 9 prawns in the dish and it was sensational. A mouth watering episode Scott and great to see you have enough vision to keep posting fabulous videos while being grounded. Well done as always mate and take care !! I did fly First with Etihad once from Paris to Abu Dhabi and the chef cooked a small portion of everything on the 1st class menu...and they matched the wines. Almost needed a wheel chair to get off the plane !!
I took business on JAL at LAX and it was amazing. You also get a menu where you can order whatever for free. The crew of course was so kind and the sushi was so fresh.
Asiana is technically pronounced "ah-shi-ah-na" by Koreans but I've heard English speakers say "Ay-shi-ah-nah", with the first two syllables sounding the same as in the word "Asia"
The secret is to eat like a king/queen in the airline club before boarding your flight.
The best meal for US airlines?
I would go with Biscoff😂
That’s as fancy as it gets! 😂
Hahah so true!!
I'm a big fan of Starlux airlines, thank you for your comment let more people know it. I believe Starlux airlines can become the best airlines in Taiwan. 🎉
Appreciate your continued genuinely positive outlook on life Scott, keep it up man!
I'm so happy the Air Asia chicken and rice made it to the list :D
Scott I can’t wait to see you back in the air! I miss seeing you’re trip reports, although I do love seeing these different vids for sure. Either way! Keep up the amazing work!
Moments in the Sky's most recent video .... Air Lingus landing ... "do they serve Chicken Rice??". Done!
Haha, well played.
You really should have a best top 5 Chicken and Rice meals. It wouldn’t be a Sanspotter meal without chicken and rice.
My best meal EVER was surprisingly on a Q400 from Kigali Rwanda to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania... Sweet n Sour Chicken with Potatoes Oh my gosh it was awesome.
I concur when it comes to meals on Turkish Airlines. Their economy class food is probably the best in the air today. Period. My best meal, and this was rather unexpected, was in Lufthansa business class from Boston to Frankfurt on the 747-8. The crew was amazing! I remember asking for seconds, and they served it to me. It was some sort of meat/rice dish, but the presentation, the wine they recommend...it was pure gastro bliss!
I’ve yet to try Lufthansa business or first class - but I’m sure it would’ve been on this list if I had!

Yes Scott loving these food vids!
The best and honest review.... Airasias Uncle chin chicken rice is my favourite than any other on flight food since my childhood.
When you recognize your home airport (ORD) by a still/barely moving video you know you are a airplane nerd.
Hi Scott.....
From your list of Top 5.....i strike 2 that is bcoz I boarded them. Airasia and Turkish Airline. Very good inflight meal. 😊😊😊😊😊
My best meal.....
1. Singapore Airlines - Economy
2. KLM - Biz Class
3. Turkish - Economy
4. Airasia - Low Cost Economy
5. Oman Air - Economy
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😉
My favourite meal was on an Etihad flight from London to Abu Dhabi, business class, Etihad mezzé, first mezzé ever and it was delicious. On my next flight from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok, business class, I choose the mezzé again and it was amazing.
Thank you Scott! Love your content ;)
Hey Scott! Just read that Starlux started flying between Taipei and Macau again a few days ago (according to a fellow spotter based in Taipei) - keeping my fingers cross for it to survive as well!
That’s great! Good to see them flying again. 👍🏻
Loved the ORD backdrop Scott.
Thanks! BTW, You’re the first person to correctly identify it. 👍🏻
Now we need a list of the best Chicken and Rice meals! 😂😂😂
Another great video Scott! I can understand your #2 option of the Chicken Rice though since it seems to be much better, especially from an economy low-cost carrier perspective. For me easily the best food I had on board was the Asian Fusion Chicken Soup in United Polaris Business Class. I'm usually a beef kind of guy, but that time I decided to pick something entirely different and I don't regret it in ANY way. I also forgot what I had by name since I have to find the menu from the flight, but I had a beef and steamed rice bowl as a mid-flight snack on the same flight that was really good. I'd easily rate that as one of the best flights I've ever had, and especially by United's standards it was the best period. Hopefully the cabin crew from that flight is still flying and doing well.
Can we get a house tour?
Oh yeah, also, you should post more often as you’re always home.
Great vid!
A house tour? That would mean I’d have to clean. 😩😄
I love these best and worst videos, especially when you don’t have any other content to post, it’s very entertaining. Thanks Scott, great job making me hungry!❤️👍✈️
Thanks Diane! It’s really gonna really suck when I run out of “best and worst” content. 😆
Thank you for preferring Starlux ! I am proud of Taiwanese carriers !
I've tried the chicken rice on my way from KUL to SIN on AirAsia, it was indeed tasty and it's insanely cheap compare to other LCCs. I would definitely fly AirAsia again just for the meal!
I have been watching your videos for a reasonable amount of time and I would just like to say how amazing your videos are :) I would like to start getting into aviation once this whole COVID-19 thing is over and the inspiration being mainly your videos. Have a great day :)
I’m honored to be the inspiration you need to get started! Best of luck to you!
Once I saw a trip report of Lufthansa from Los Angeles to Frankfurt...The food was spectacular according to me...the cheese
beef pasta and a very uniquely shaped bread it was amazing...in fact while watching the video I was tempted.....Even Emirates
has amazing food....will you want to try some good rich Indian food fine dining experience in the sky...Emirates is the best option available out there. If was sponsoring this video I would rank Emirates as 1 and Lufthansa as number 2.
Maybe you can rate your favorite aircraft in a future video! (Even though there is no competition for first place)
Or, Review your favorite airports based on looks, seating, amenities, security, etc.
Loved the video. Turkish Airlines meal looked amazing. Air Asia, seriously... LOL keep the content coming
Heck yes AirAsia. 😄😍 Glad you enjoyed the video!
Love the videos Scott. Visited San Diego from the UK back in February (only place in the US that wife and I would live love it) who would have known the way the world would change in the intervening 3 months. Take care and look forward to new trips when its safe for you to be out there.
Your meal on turkish is called köfte. If you ever fly turkish again, you should opt in for "Karnıyarık" which is eggplant with minced beef. Best food I ever had on a plane.
I thought this was just going to be Chicken and Rice from Air Asia on repeat.
Best airline meal I've ever had was Air Nova business class on the BAE146 (it wasn't yesterday). Recieved a surprise operational upgrade, so maybe that's what made the meal taste so much better.
Upgrades will always make the in flight meal taste better. 🤣
If you fly on Air Asia again, please try the 'Pak Nasser Nasi Lemak'👍
I definitely will - I’ve heard really good things about that one as well!
@@sanspotter Scott, hope you'll come back to southeast Asia soon, specifically Malaysia. Just curious, will you take a 738/739ER (economy) on a 3 hour flight, transit for an hour and continue on a 6 hour plus flight?
thank you for continuing to provide videos.you are must see watching. please stay safe and keep up the good work
Thanks Craig!
Great video man
Well I have never flown internationally and it looks like a trip planned for October is dead, so I have only limited experience with meals. However, I will have to say that my two best meals were the first and only time I flew domestic first-class and that was on Alaska in 2013. The meal and the presentation were excellent. A tie for that meal would be on Alaska's subsidiary Horizon air flight from Seattle to Spokane in the mid-1990's. Of course these days you would never get a real meal on a 1-hour domestic flight but back then you could on Horizon (I think they meals went away after 9/11 but I could be wrong on the date). To top off that meal came while flying in a Fairchild F27 turboprop.
Economy meals are always hit or miss. I'm glad you had some really good ones in your video. It's always a pleasant surprise to receive a quality meal with great service in economy and its not just pent up for business. Great video!
That’s why that Turkish airlines flight was so memorable. The food was incredible!
Starlux? I expected EVA to be up there, but maybe I haven't had enough meals on planes. 😂
You gotta give Starlux a try! If they can survive this downturn, they’re going to be giving EVA a serious run for their money.
The best airline food I had was with Cathay Pacific. I flew economy class on the DXB-HKG sector on October 2013. I had the best meal in my life and their cabin crew was great! I asked for a glass of their best wine. Unfortunately, that wasn't available so I asked for the 2nd best, which was Sauvignon. Their food was great and their crew was super pleasant even I was bugging her so much. Haha! If only I can fly with Cathay again!
Wasn't hungry before watching this. Now I'm actively looking for food to eat 😂 Nice video Scott!
Thanks! And I recommend chicken and rice. Of course. 😆
Luv ya, Scotty! Thanks for the super entertainment!
Thanks Kiana! You’re very welcome!
Found your channel today, and I love it! next maybe you could do your economy meals list, because I'm kind of poor and can't afford business class.
Thanks Lucas - good idea! As you saw in this video, there’s some pretty good food available in economy class these days. 👍🏻
@@sanspotter I have flown mostly transatlantic, on at least 6 airlines, and I have found that Iberia A330 JFK-MAD had the best economy food, not just because the food was tasty, but the fact that they had a tray of hot dinner rolls that came around at least thrice. Have you ever flown Iberia on transatlantic? Hopefully this time not on a A340, dont want to lose your gopro again!
I was surprised that AirAsia made it to the list and I thought that was it, then came Starlux and it landed at #1. This was a compelling list Scott. I hope you could do a top 5 airport video soon.
Thanks Andrei! I am seriously considering doing videos for my top five best and worst airports - I’ve received a lot of requests for that so far! 😮
Thanks for sharing your favorite meals...they look yummy. My favorite meal on an airplane was on an Air Canada 777-300 from Montreal to Paris in premium economy. I actually joked after my trip to France that my favorite meal of the trip was on my flight over...which is a big compliment considering that France is known for great food. I had red curry with chicken and it was delicious. Maybe I have a thing for chicken and rice too???
You’re very welcome! And there’s nothing wrong with an addiction to chicken and rice. 😆 BTW, I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about AC food - maybe I’m gonna need to try it once things get back to normal!
@@sanspotter I look forward to that review! Btw I was in SAN in the fall of 2018 for work and I loved your city :) And a busy airport in downtown...yes please!
Great wrap up and yup definitely hungry..... hungry to fly again and travel. Thanks Scott your a legend for continued content. 👍
Thanks Blue! I’m hungry in those same ways as well!
Wow I'm actually hungry for airline food! Great video Scott, enjoyed these worst and best airline food videos!
Thanks man! Now the struggle of coming up with a different video topic begins… 😅
Nasi Lemak in AirAsia is good too
I thought the "I don't know how to pronounce" airline was gonna be Xiamen hahaha
When this pandemic is over, you HAVE TO TRY QATAR AIRWAYS QSUITE ON THE A350-1000, I've been on it multiple times and it's by far the best business class seat IN THE WORLD! Also, the Al Mourjan Qatar Airways business class lounge in Doha Hamad Airport is soooo cool! I'd love to see you make a video of that!
Omg. The Starlux meal is your no1 meal? I could have sworn picking Emirates or Qatar Airlines meals would have been your no1. 😊
Turkish's food was surprisingly good, but what really sells it is their in-house made mint lemonade! 🤤
I really enjoyed the meal in United Premium Economy and on SAS Business Class.
UA premium economy? That’s surprising!
@@sanspotter I was served Business class food except for the Ice Creme Sundae
Awesome video! You're such a great aviation youtuber and you have such a great channel! Can you do a video about airline models (GeminiJets, NG Models, Phoenix, Panda etc.), if you have any can you show them in one of your videos? Thanks!
My best meals are the meals I’ve actually gotten on flights 😂 as a veggie, no matter how many times I make sure to request a special diet meal with my ticket, they always seem to forget to load it. So I usually end up on long distance flights with flight attendants scraping together snacks for me instead of meals. It’s definitely better these days because airlines have adopted more veggie options in their regular menus. But my first few years flying were rough. I did a whole flight from Chicago to Incheon on pretzels!
ORD to ICN on pretzels?! You are far stronger than I am - and I do love pretzels. 😆 But yeah, there’s definitely something special about eating a good meal on an airplane. Eating that same meal on the ground in a dumpy restaurant probably wouldn’t taste as good...which…now that I think of it, would make for a pretty awesome video topic. 🤔
This one is easy. Lasagna on American. I demolished it. The F/A noticed this and quickly brought me another plate. Oh yeah, the flight was almost empty.
Yes, Turkish Airlines food is delicious thanks to their caterer Do & Co. British Airways also uses Do & Co to cater their flights. It really comes down to how much the airline spends per meal as well as the caterer.
Good food makes everything great! Economy class and budget airlines making up this list ahead of some top airlines is really impressive. Hope this all Covid-19 insanity ends soon and we can fly again. Stay safe!
Thanks Tanmay! Yeah, I thought of that as well. It’s really amazing how good some airlines are getting when it comes to food, and hopefully will see this trend continue once we all get flying again.
Best I've had were on Aer Lingus business class Boston to Dublin and back.
Scott, Maybe soon you can give is your top 5 and worst 5) airports. Would be interesting.
Airline food generally taste better when the flight originate from asian country and also an Asian airline
Very true!
Hey Scott...Malaysian airlines satay in business class worth the fare alone...Have you tried it?
I haven’t tried that one yet! I was hoping to fly with them later this year, but I doubt that’s going to happen now.
I mean Turkish had to be up There, I believe it was Kofta which I love
Also I'd like to thank you for responding to comments every time
Greetings from the South West of the UK
You’re very welcome Wiskerboii! Frankly, I don’t care what they call it - I just know it was extremely tasty. 😁
I did a "book the cook" at Singaporean Airlines. I got a lobster thermidor, I wondered how in gods name they managed to do it like in a restaurant. On the return flight it was not the same at all.
You do have to love a chicken and rice in flight meal 👌😁
Thanks for sharing - stay safe
Oh...I thought the #1 was going to be the Chicken Rice dish. 😊 The beginning gave me a good chuckle!!
Haha, I was so tempted to put it in the number one spot, but I thought everyone would give me hell for it. 🤦🏼♂️😄
how would you recommend getting onto trip reporting?
Just start filming! 👍🏻👍🏻
Turkish Food is the BEST....2nd only to MALAYSIAN Food in my Books...I paid $5 for that AirAsia meal.
When I review Asiana, I always tell people to get the Korean option. Both the bibimbap and ssambap are awesome choices. The thing I noticed in the ssambap in your video are the extra banchan and the portion is bigger and the different courses. I noticed that with my bibimbap when I flew their business class a couple years ago. Great review.
Thanks Jeff! Yup, getting the western option on Asiana is the incorrect choice - it’s hard to go wrong with quality Korean food!
Good to see another video from you Scott, was rather pleasantly surprised not to see Qatar or Emirates amongst the top 5 (saying that I'll pop over to Facebook to see the 'late addition' after this)
My favourite meal was on Emirates, flying MCR to DBX and on the menu was a chicken in a tomato/ BBQ sauce with veg etc and it was excellent. After switching flights in DBX to head for MEL on the menu were two options for mains, and yes you guessed it, the same chicken dish, so I ordered it again!
I look forward to the next video. As an aircraft enthusiast, could you do a top 10 or top 5 of airports that are 'enthusiast friendly'? I find that if I have hours to kill in between flights I photograph the aircraft etc!
Thanks Peter! Believe it or not, I didn’t enjoy the food all that much in the only Emirates business class flight I’ve ever taken. But I agree - Qatar is on point! And yup - these “top 5” videos are fun so I might end up following through on your suggestion!
Luckily u got AirAsia's chicken rice correct at the end 😆
Thanks for another enjoyable program. I certainly am hoping that STARLUX will make it through this unfortunate time for all airlines and become a significant player in the Asian region. Now that today's vlog has made me ravenous, I must dash to my kitchen and see what concoctions I can whip up to quell the beast in my stomach!🤣. As always, I am eagerly awaiting your upcoming vlogs. Take care. ♥️🛫🙏🏽🌎
Thanks John! Hopefully everything went well in the kitchen, and that you were able to cook up some chicken and rice that rivals anything that AirAsia could serve. 😆
What do you think of food in economy class on royal Jordanian ?
and pls make an evaluation on royal Jordanian economy class
could you can review bamboo airways, vietnam airlines and vietjet air??
OMFG!!! I wasn’t expecting Starlux to be the no.1. I really hope Starlux can survive this pandemic. Both China airlines and Eva air are suffering a significant loss, it probably hits Starlux even harder.
Yup, Starlux is amazing! Would be a real shame to see them go.
technically airasia is the best as it's an LCC....
Lucky I ate right before the video
Which is a good thing (because quality airline food might be difficult to find at the moment) 😆
Scott,
Perhaps in a future video you can do a Q+A, and let us ask questions. Also, will you be making videos more frequently now that you are at home? I would like to see more content in this format! Also, how tall are you? in a few of your videos you make 31in seat pitch seem luxurious, while that much makes my knees bleed.
I think you should try the 5 best airline chicken 🍗 & rice 🍚 meal 😂
"eating the low cost carrier" ):)
Great Vid.
I love this
Thanks Eduardo!
Can you do airline snacks?
Maybe. I’m an expert in that area as well. 😆
Yo , Maybe list the top lounges and the worst lounges
Good idea! 👍🏻👍🏻
Dude I remember you talking up that air asia chicken and rice, I thought you were just blowing it up but I guess you really did like it. Makes you wonder that food company probably makes thousands of that one dish that day. Maybe you got the one that didn't suck. Anyway thanks for the content and I hope Air Asia makes it out of this mess so I can try that chicken and rice. Thanks
Seriously - you have to fly AirAsia just for the chicken rice. It was THAT good. I promise! 😄
@@sanspotter You probably should also try Malaysia Airlines, I've browsed through your video list, I didn't see Malaysia Airlines.
never heard of the airline at #1
I don't see link to Kaz
God this lockdown has me craving MSG so bad.
Haha, I totally understand.
yay! new video! do United sfo to sin next. "Surviving 17.5 hours in united economy!"
You have no idea how badly I’d love to do that right now. I doubt it’s gonna happen this year though. 😩
Starlux should add US routes, I would totally fly them if they flew here
