🌟Thanks Nigel! Yes, in my dream house I would have a bonsai room that is technically just a giant shower with tiled floors and walls, drains in the floor and sprayers/taps for watering. Now I’m off to check my lottery tickets. 🤣😂🐦💙
Bonsai Master Jay with an excellent pruning technique. Cool guest appearance by Mr. Elephant. A quick shower for the forest and a morning coffee for Jay.
I got this same species from home depot too! Those aphids man... I eventually hard pruned mine back leaving almost no leaves, then sprayed the absolute heck out of it with soap/ water. I think it finally killed the aphids... Then I put it next to my orange tree which come to find out had spider mites... They moved right on over to the hibiscus 😂😭 Orange tree is clear, hibiscus is lit up by spider mites now... Bugs LOVE this tree. Edit: Its funny you mentioned the shower secret for soaping your trees! When I brought all my tropicals in for winter, I had my entire bathtub lit up with trees after soaping them, and my roommate had to use the bathroom. I tried to close the shower curtain to hide them but I heard the curtain open and then an audible "sigh" from my roommate 😂
Hey Jay, we really like these forest Bonsai presentations. Question- is trimming back the older pruned branches mainly for aesthetic reasons, or is there functionality as well ? Well check out the original video for reference:) Have a great weekend!! Cheers J&C 🌱🌱🌱
🌟Thank you Jason & Colleen! Glad you enjoy them! 👍 We always want to have taper (thick to thinner branches as you get further from the trunk. We also want to have 1 branch split to 2.. then each one of those split to 2.. then each one of those split to 2.. and each one being thinner and thinner. Creates the illusion of a big old tree. If i prune back it's usually to improve taper or to get that 1 to 2 split happening. But if you always just prune right away the tree loses vigour. so you need to let it grow out.. chop it back.. grow out.. chop it back. This long term strategy is more like playing chess than checkers! 😂🤣🐦💙
Very Nice update. Good work Jay. I will have to send you pics of my hibiscus plantings that I started at the same time as yours. Pest magnets no kidding. Good thing I have a shower right beside my grow tent.
🌟Thank you Derrick! Please do! I am sure with your grow tent yours will blow mine away! But I'll hold back the jealously for the sake of curiosity! 😂🤣🐦💙
All cleaned up these trees look great. I had a hibiscus bonsai that would excrete salt from the leaves. That is what I thought the white spots were at first. Thanks for the update
WOW! A year already?! Where did the time go?! And Jay, I'm so sorry... but seeing all those bugs on your trees made me feel better. Those are exactly what I'm dealing with. Plus some others. Not on my hibiscus though, strangely enough. Just the one had aphids. They also need gallons of water! That forest is looking great! I so love that black pot! I bet the flowers looked fantastic with that pot! Awesome work Jay!
🌟 Thanks Marysol! This year has been the worst for bugs for me. When the flowers bloom they do look great with the black pot. Will try to capture that even if it’s just a short video.. 🐦💙
Hi Jay. Along with the great anniversary pruning of this young Hibiscus forest, and the debugging sequence, I admire your pruning shears. If I may ask, what is the brand and where did you get it?
🌟Thank you Steve! I got them at the Garden Cafe in Canada. (www.thegarden-cafe.com/Bonsai-Tools-c64895273) I have a video from when I got them. (ruclips.net/video/r6yYVlEDgyE/видео.html) I think Eastern Leaf and others carry them in the USA. I love them. 🥰 Connor from the club (and Nigel's channel) also uses them! 🐦💙
Looks good Jay. Those pest suck. I’ve gotten lucky this year and don’t have them yet. Did you happen to figure out what they are? Glad you put out a video. I’ve missed them!
@@BlueJayBonsai - Not bad at all, thank you. Winters are a lot easier here (-3/4c coldest for only a handful of nights). Had one disappointing loss of a tiny Cotoneaster "volunteer" that was likely too heavy a root prune! Otherwise my MVPs are (yard-adori) Hazel and Privet (the one I sent you pics of ages ago) branching quite nicely and can handle my amateur efforts 🤗
@@BlueJayBonsai lots of work with forests. I don’t even understand them. Too much work for me. You make it look easy though! But I know its not. Gosh, this typing even made me tired… need more coffee and a mid morning nap now
Nice work Jay, the forest is looking really good, maybe a plant shower could be added as a bathroom renovation?!!!

YES!!!!! I’m not the only one in the shower with my bonsai trees!!!!! 😂
The hibiscus forest is coming along quite well Jay!
🌟Thank you Raymond! 🐦💙
Looking great Jay, super healthy.
🌟Thanks Kale! Can’t wait to get it on video when the flowers bloom! 🐦💙
Great progress in just a year. Nice work Jay!
🌟Thanks Dave! The plants did all the hard work… I just had to watch them grow! 🤣😂🐦💙

that's come on well in 12 months Jay. It will be interesting to see it develop in another 12
🌟Thank you Tony! No crazy trunk bends on these babies! But i'd love to see you try! 😂🐦💙

Forest is looking great! Thank you for the update.
🌟Thanks Christopher! 🐦💙
They look strong even with bugs they can be fussy for me cheers 😊
🌟Thank you James! If they survive the initial root prune - they seem to do fine.. at least if they are under grow lights when inside. 🐦💙
Great looking forest, Jay. It’s looking awesome, brother.
🌟Thanks Billy! 🐦💙
Great update Jay and it is good to see how far it has come in a year. I use the shower too... Cheers Xav
🌟Thanks Xav! 🧼🛀
Nice work Jay. That is a lot of new growth you have!
🌟Thanks! I usually get a growth spurt when they come in under the crow lights in the fall. 👍🐦💙
Looks much better a year later. And yeah, man, hibiscus are bug magnets.
🌟Thanks The Firm! Can’t wait until the summer when they go back outside! 🐦💙

Nice Forest, for some reason I thought my Hawaiian Punch Hibiscus was not tropical and I left it out side and it froze to dead 🤦🏻
🌟Oh no Gerardo! I think we have all done that… I did that to my first lemon cypress.. 🐦💙
I really need to try to make a forest
🌟Awesome! Can’t wait to see that! 🐦💙
