🌟It’s the all purpose bonsai soil from The Bonsai Supply. I order mine via Home Depot. 👍🐦💙
Was that initial soil some kind of akadama? I heard that cheaper, low quality, bonsai soil will disintegrate and create a muddy substrate. No wonder that mud stayed wet for so long. Good thing you decided to repot. New soil looks much better.
🌟That’s my guess as well.. it kinda looked like darker, maybe old akadama.. 🐦💙
I can say for sure that that soil was very good acadama. It was probably still wet from being watered in.

Thankfully you got it into good soil, that previous substrate looked a bit like a death sentence for a portulacaria afra. I'm sure it'll grow really well in the new pot! Also, I use the same blue pellets, they've worked really well for me for the last few years, really convenient.

That soil looked like some kind of akadama, I just started to use it on some of my trees and now I will have to keep an eye on them. I don't want the solid to turn into a muddy death sentence. Thanks for sharing Jay.
🌟I got confirmation it was akadama! Works for people with busier lives and different watering schedules than I’m used to!
Did you have dark brown water come out of the bottom of your pot after applying that fertilizer?
🌟@markwoodard659 I don't remember seeing that. But after I ran out of that jar, I went back to my usual fertilizer - osmocote plus!🐦💙

🌟It was in akadama from the previous owner, which works great for his busy work lifestyle. I used The Bonsai Supply soil from Home Depot. Pumice, lava, turface and pine bark fines when I repotted.

ok ill write it again in short:
1.portulacaria afra dont like fertilizer right away after reppoting.
2.theres no hail marry cut thing on portulacaria becouse it should always divide really good no matter where u cut but make sure u cut only in summertime and spring otherwize it just weakens the plant.
🌟Thanks Oftek. I don’t fertilize after a repot if I work the roots… roots were not touched by me or on the previous slip pot. You are right, Hail Mary was not the right term. Just a little nervous on a new tree that I paid money for. 😃
