When Kimber told me they were sending me their new gun, a striker-fired double-stack plastic gun with a red dot was not what I was expecting.
What I got to shoot and review was their new R7 MAKO (OI).
The OI stands for Optic Installed.
The First 1911 I ever bought was a Kimber Ultra raptor. I have no shame in saying that I bought that gun simply because of the way it looked.
Kimber has always been known for making attractive-looking 1911s, and I have to say they've done the same with the R7 Mako.
Here is my Kimber R7 Mako Review where I go over the Kimber R7 Design, features, trigger, grip, price, shootability, and more.

    • @yakivpopavich
      @yakivpopavich 2 года назад +6

@@KG370 Shhhh don't tell them. They enjoy watching him literally publish advertisements, and I'm not talking the shaving company lmao. As you know literally 80% of Colin's content or more is all manufacturer sponsored segments as you stated that are very well edited and meant to convince the person watching to buy said product. For people like you and me or those who are older we know better. But the newer generation merely needs to watch 1-2 videos and they will impulse buy something based on another person or in some cases literally based on the companies paid spokesman's opinion. In my honest opinion Colin Noir is a merely a social media " influencer " who's goal is to make money from partnerships with companies who make firearms, who he then makes videos for their various products. The only thing good he does is advocate for 2A in general and expose the Snapchat/Instagram/Facebook crowd to some laws and legislation and such. And I'm also willing to admit although he's literally just a gun ad video maker, what he's done for exposure for guns in general and 2A is worth his cringe videos. He's getting a new and younger generation into firearms, and trying to inform them when infringing laws are being pushed. He's a shill who's pushing products, but at the same time he benefits the community as a whole. Idk how to feel.

Yeah I got the same optic on another osp ready package outta the box. It’s not sturdy enough to handle life. Early on I found that humidity or my sweat basically caused a ton of corrosion in the optic and the battery contacts actually broke off. The only good thing about it other than some is the cut out I that lets you utilize irons if needed. If you go this route i suggest you use the CT optic as a range device only and invest in a sturdier, semi water resistant model for an EDC package.

In other words, “Wow, I’m very easily manipulated by marketing techniques.” They send everyone these guns at the same time and don’t allow reviews till a certain day, so there you go. Notice that Noir failed to commit to much in this review with tons of statements that amounted to “is this the best? No. Is this the worst? No.” It sounds like a completely average gun that nobody wants to criticize because they want Kimber to keep sending the goodies.

It’s definitely not blowing my hair back with the barrage of sub/micro-compacts we’ve received in the last 3 years, but the more this video played, the more interested I became- and the price point is competitive. I’m still not interested, but it will be interesting to see what happens with the Mako in the future.

i was at the gun store 2 weeks ago picking up a p365 SAS and saw a kimber catalog and this was in there. I'm guessing they weren't supposed to have it out yet because I've been trying to find info info it since. Looks like a sweet gun, thanks for the review.

My first 1911 was a Kimber Pro-Carry Ten II. I love that gun. Unfortunately, these days I can't shoot it without massive pain because of a neck injury. (Ironically, I got that injury re-arming from the safe in my trunk after work...and it was the same Kimber in the safe.) Now, I have to really limit my recoil so I'm actually functional after I fire a magazine. A 9mm is just over the line. I can take maybe two magazines, then I'm completely immobilized from pain.
I have a little crappy Jennings J-22 I can fire forever, even with the Aguila Super-Maximums I prefer in it. (You can't use Stingers in a J-22, the chamber isn't long enough and those extra-long Stinger cases jam and fail to extract.) I can also shoot my Kel-Tec PMR-30. But the Jennings is a piece of crap, and the PMR-30 isn't reliable. It's rimfire, so it's has a tendency to light strike once in a while. Worse, it noses on the ramp at least once in a magazine.
Enter my last gun purchase: The RIA .22 TCM double-stack 1911. It's a heavy beast, but that helps absorb the remaining recoil from the high-velocity .22 TCM round gives when blasting the target with around a 40-grain hollowpoint at about 2000-2100 fps. It delivers just a tad over the kinetic energy an FN FiveSeven delivers, and a lot cheaper. It's a true 1911, but the reliable centerfire .22 TCM round doesn't incapacitate me when I fire it. I DID have to send it in for a failure to extract problem, but I think it was an old stock model that was built before Armscor switched from plain brass cases to nickel-plated cases, and the chamber tolerances were just that little bit off. They sent it back to me in about a week, and they say they fixed it. I really need to get to the range sometime to check it out, but between the Coof and my own issues, I haven't managed to do that.
IF I could fire that Kimber 9mm without being slammed by the recoil, I'd probably try it, though. I've got a Glock 27 with CT lasergrips, and I wonder if that Mako is anything like the Glock. It looks like it might be similar.

@@risky7165 I think what wins my attention is how small it is but it comes with a optic that looks natural like it's supposed to be there, I've never seen that in a offering before. Plus the trigger looks moderately good with allowing fast follow up shots I REALLY LIKE THAT!!

Of all the sub compact micro double stack 9mm pistols. The only one that was tested rigorously was the Hellcat. Kimber makes nice quality firearms. I would want a reliable platform if it’s my everyday carry.

This gun looks nicely balanced I wish I could play around with it for a few hours before making a decision to buy it. Like most guns (if you haven’t been able to fire one like it) you just make a decision to buy off of grip and hand and finger comfortability and weight.

Okay, being a Kimber owner already myself, I'll just say it, "it's a Kimber!". Enough said! Now having said that, what about Kimber's little polymer from the past, The Bren-Ten? So in essence, this is not Kimber's first polymer gun. Just saying... Nice video, Colion. Thanks.

Colion….I hope that you get a chance to sit down an interview with CEOs of major gun manufacturers and ask them what they would do in a sweeping federal ban situation. Would they give up, or call patriots to their aid? This would be really helpful for the community in organizing and understanding when the real alarms are being rung.

You used a battleship target. I love those! They are great for friendly competition. My son told his friends he could shoot better than me. When I heard about it, I challenged him to battleship at the range. I smoked his whole fleet before he could sink one of my ships. If you don't like battleship there are card games like Poker too. Bring lots of ammo!

I really enjoyed every Kimber I ever owned. I loved the Cayenne. I think the R7 Mako is dead sexy and based on the review I might like it a whole lot in my collection. Kimber "purists" who don't like it because it's a polymer pistol and not a .45 need to get over themselves. Just because Kimber makes it doesn't mean you have to buy it.
I'm also a big revolver fan, and Kimber's revolver gets great reviews too...

@colionnoir, this isn’t the first polymer Kimber; I carried a double-stacked polymer Kimber 1911 in the early 2000s. It was the Kimber Pro BP Ten II.

Because of this video I recently bought the R7. I have not shot the pistol yet, but I am already impressed with it. The action is incredibly smooth. You can tell right away this is a Kimber quality pistol. I am a bit of a snob with triggers. Like Noir said, the trigger is very crisp with no slop. Other reviews have said the trigger gets better the more you shoot the pistol. Going from a 6 lb. trigger pull down to a 4.5 lb. pull. So far my only complaint is the grip's backstrap. I have big hands. I wish you could add an oversized backstrap. That would feel a little better and cut down on the trigger travel distance.
Colin, what kind of holster did you use in the video?

I've had a Taurus pt 709 slim for a work carry driving a tow truck probably 2 months after it was released, so I've had it for years, shot Manny rounds, and never had a problem.. yes it was different to shoot at first due to the weight and short barrel in terms of recoil. Tho it is a single stack, still was a better shoot and carry than the Ruger LC9, I would love to get his Kimber micro for a new carry and it's a double stack. Just takes a bit of getting to know these small plastic guns, unless you have bear claws for hands, their not bad in my opinion..

The Porsche Cayenne was basically an upscaled version of a Volkswagen Touareg. Like a Lincoln over a Ford or a Buick over a Chevy.
