I remember girls telling me “you need a perm” back in high school. Now those bitches ask me for natural hair advice. I would be skeptical of any “professional” who uses relaxers on a 7 year old. Most reputable salons won’t do chemical services on anyone under 12.
Yes girl, I am no longer afraid of humidity anymore. I live in Florida and I remember the days I use to flat iron my hair a lot and I would always hate hate HATE the humidity here in Florida. I remember I begged my parents to move to New York so that my hair would stay straight 😂😂😂😂🤷🏾♀️. But after awhile, my hair started to thin out because of all the heat damage I had so I went totally natural without any heat in my hair. And GIRL, ever since I started embracing my curls, I love love LOVE the humidity. When it is humid outside, it makes my Afro even bigger and fluffier. I love it!
Dolly Joseph Lmaoo exactly it was like a waste of money! But wow I’m so glad we decided to take this route. Even tho humidity can be a little annoying because it takes away from my definition sometimes, I wouldn’t want it any other way 😍
Caramel Coils It’s quite funny how you responded to this post but not to the other post that specifically asked how did you properly moisturize your hair and the products used. You did all that talking to tell us what? All you’re concerned about is subscribers. What a rip- off. I wasted 14:37 minutes out my day to watch you rant about basically nothing. You were no help at all.
Its very usual for one person to have different curl patterns on different sections of the head... I don't think it's because of heat. the front of my hair has a looser curl pattern that the back n I've never pressed my hair.
@@dcdand But I never wear ponytails (always in mini twists). I dont think it works like that. If it were so, then we would be able to permanently stretch our hair with tension lol.
"When you nurture something & you start to care for it, you'll see the results. & it will began to flourish." I LOVE THAT. Thanks for sharing sis. I too love my natural hair. I've only been fully natural for almost 7 months, yet I have fallen in love with the journey. 😍😍😍😍
your hair and that volume is 😍. I remember the days of that damage wash n go that everyone used to tell me looked good 😒. Compare now it was a hot mess.
I've been relaxed since I was 5. I'm a senior in college now and I'm finally going natural. I guess.. I've been natural for 5 months by an accident, because I kept too many protective styles and wigs on during this year that I did not realize that I have not relaxed in 5 months. My hair is so pretty and soft. I'm ready.
Caramel Coils i did not realize how tired I was when i typed that whole comment 🤣🤣 glad you were able to understand me, but thank you! The journey begins 😭💜
This is probably the realest video I’ve seen in a while! I have heat damaged hair in the front, but my middle and back are THICK. So I’m trying this journey again but with only protective styles for three months. Wish me luck!
You’re hair is soooo gorgeous...I’m 14 and recently just started on another hair journey...i big chopped a lottt of my hair off and im so excited to see my growth , although I’m not very confident in this point in time i know it will be worth it in the future...if you are reading this and you are thinking about going natural do it!! What an interesting hair journey!! Your looks beautiful! There are so many Black Hair care products available now vs 15-20 years ago and of course RUclips has been extremely helpful as well! 🥳🌸🌸🌸🌸
It’s 3:33 mins in and I had to stop to say…how proud I am of you!!! Your mom should be soooooo proud!!! I pray my daughters grow up to be like you!! I am Guatemalan and my hair is crazy…I’m in between trying to figure out my hair better…I’m so thankful for your video! It was from the heart!!! Much love!!!
This video really touches me. I've been natural for 3,5 years now, but I used to relax my hair, and so did my niece. As black woman we are taught that our hair is nappy, frizzy, not professional or just wild. Me and my niece started relaxing our hair at age 10, because all our straight haired friends would pick on us because of our hair. I am shocked at how similar our relaxed/natural hair journey is. I hope this will inspire a lot of people.
Waaaaait a damn minute I found my damn hair type twin 😭 But your hair is longer than mine but it motivates me to take better care of it so it can grow😊
I feel what you had to go through I'm going through that very journey right now and it's tough. I used to get relaxers because when I was younger I felt like I was never able to style my hair how I wanted and it was always a struggle. recently as my natural hair started growing I noticed how healthy it looked compared to my relaxed and damaged hair. I want to just cut it all off and start over but like what you said in your video, I didn't exactly want to be bald. Hopefully I can do better with my new growth and learn to embrace my natural curls instead of hide them. Its nice to know that I'm not the only one who has suffered through this awkward stage of hair.
I am so thankful you made this video. My natural hair journey is very similar to yours and this has really opened my eyes not to mention that we have very similar hair types so I'm glad you made this 🙏
this is probably my third time watching this video since you've first posted it and I love it so much!! my favorite part is towards the end where you talk about being unapologetic about your hair and your journey. I can relate to so much of this video!
this is the first time I've seen a Black girl on youtube with my curl pattern. I'm a Black girl too and was really surprised to see my natural curl pattern like this and I really love it. 🥰
I saw this and said “literally me” every 10 seconds! I’ve been straightening my hair my whole life up until now (25 yes old) and am finally transitioning to natural hair. I’m in that awkward stage of trying to bring my curls back to life and I hope I’m doing it right! I’m wondering how long your journey took, from when you decided to stop with the heat, to when your curls were brought back to life? I’m only 2 months in, and I’m struggling with keeping the faith 😭😩
I can’t definitely say, as much as i’ve already known i learned soo much from this one video. I really appreciate you sharing your journey and knowledge because even when is natural girls know our hair there’s still always so much to learn. so thank you❤️and congrats to you!
9:58 - 10:22 really came for my head 😭,, i never took the time to appreciate my hair and always compared my hair to others,, hearing those words really opened my eyes and is currently helping me with my hair growth journey as of now since i decided to cut my hair for a fresh start,, thanks 🥺 .
Nerigga_ I’ve been there so I know, & it’s okay. It’s great that you can acknowledge it and just work on it. So glad I could help you, you got this girl! No doubt about it 😌❤️
This video is SUPER encouraging! I literally searched “stringy natural hair” and found this because...if you don’t know much about natural hair types then you don’t know what to search for! My journey has been long and slow but I’m glad to see a success story with a hair type more similar to mine.
Brandy Smith Yay I’m so glad I could help! ☺️ I know the struggle ALL too well 😭 If you have any specific questions about your journey or video requests just lmk 💓
OOoh I remember those days! Yes you gotta keep pushing! Set a goal. No heat for a whole 2 years. You gotta go least two years without it. I told and believed in myself that I would go natural, and I did! It’s been 3 years now without anyyy heat!
Caramel Coils Only 3 years now. Next year it will be 4 years in July! It’s pretty long, I’m just soo scared to flat iron it. I really love my hair in its curly state and seeing others coils or curly hair. It’s like an obsession for me now 😂
You are adorable!! From a baby to now!! I watched the whole video and you dropped so many nuggets about hair and life, sis!! Well done! Thanks for sharing your honest journey! I’ve just started mine at 42…had my first relaxer at 15 and ready to go back to being natural. I’m excited :)
My hair is going through the same steps you had and we have the same hair type. I desperately need to know the steps of wisdom your friend gave you !!! 🤍☹️
Thank you this gave me hope to go natural my hair is currently straight it’s really heat damaged and it’s straight my hair is naturally really curly and this video gives me hope that i can get my natural hair back ❤️❤️
Caramel Coils thank you I’ve been wanting to straighten my hair again for the past week but your video made me realize that its going to be hard but i should continue if i want my hair natural again
Today is literally my first day I’ve decided I want too go natural . I have a lot of hair like yourself and you just made me feel so much more comfortable with the decision . Your gorgeous btw ! 😍😍 hair goals
Same with the relaxer story, my hair was almost down to my waist when I first got a relaxer and it never passed my shoulder. Than one day I grabbed these Scissors and I just chopped. Now my curly hair after one year and a half is almost down to my shoulders. (Before you ask, in my family hair grows fast so it depends on your genetics)
Enjoyed the video! You and your hair are BEAUTIFUL!!! I, too, wish you had shared your secret to moisturizing. This is encouragement for my daughter and I. THANKS!
i saw your pic on twitter of your before &’ after so i was surprised you had a vid on how you achieved the growth. your hair looks amazinggg def gave me hope to keep going
your hair is so pretty im crying. My hair is damaged and everything but idk what to do . Because my mom love me to get perms and relaxing my hair for some reas on ): this just makes me really sad honestly that i have not natural hair
personally my mom had permed my hair since i came out of the womb. but fr i have no pictures of me with natural hair. she did protective styles while it was permed and eventually i believed i was just born with straight her well i had a wash day today and my hair is back. it’s too short for a puff but i know protective styles are helping me. wish me luck!
This entire channel is so informative. I went natural about two years ago and have never dyed it, applied heat, or chemicals. I buzzed it and I’ve never had my natural hair this long, I’d say we were hair twins but yours looks so much more defined and healthy. I haven’t cut it since the big chop and I’m not sure if that’s what the issue is😔 I’ve started deep conditioning once a week and using castor oil as a sealing oil, and the Shea Moisture castor oil leave in. I have no idea what to do with it. I co wash once a week and use a moisturizing shampoo every two weeks. But I am STRUGGLING
Thank you for sharing your journey! Mine is VERY similar, I got my 1st relaxer at age 5 & never learned how to manage my natural texture until I was well into adulthood. Once I stopped the chemicals, I was getting my hair pressed regularly which resulted in heat damage so I went "undercover" in wigs for 3yrs to grow my hair out. I finally decided to press my hair to get my ends trimmed in 2017 and gave been heat free ever since. I've had a setback cuz I got Deva cut twice & didn't realize how much length gets chopped off in the process just to maintain the shape until I pressed my hair last month and had to get inches cut to make it even. My hair was bra length in 2017 and now it just skims my shoulders 😔 Lesson learned! Now I'm on #operationregrowth & won't let any mishaps happen again.
Woow you’ve been through it 😩 sheesh! But all that matters is where you are now boo, loving the positive energy! Seems like you got it all under control to me 💪🏾❤️
I feel like we have similar stories. I was natural as a young child. But eventually I started getting perms religiously. Then around 7th/8th grade I went natural but I would get blow outs every two weeks. Now I don’t go to the salon regularly but I blow out my own hair every two weeks. I mostly wear my hair straight but will sometimes wear my natural hair especially in the summer. In the past it was damaged but I could still figure out how to get my curls to look pretty good. But this year... my natural hair is worse then ever (and I bleached it ombré 🤦🏾♀️). I’m so sad. I really want to embark on a journey for my natural hair but it’s hard to put down the heat! 😭 Your video has really inspired me!
omg this was so informative. there should be more advocates for natural hair like yourself - that way the pressure to have straight hair will slowly go down in the black community and mothers won’t be as adamant for their daughters to have straight hair and those black girls won’t feel the need to want the same hair as their Latino or white friends
taejindda95 ❤️❤️ The natural hair community has definitely grown in the last few years so I do think this has alleviated the pressure to a certain extent. We’ve definitely come a long way!
This is like the exact same thing I’m going through. My mom got me a relaxer at like 8 because she couldn’t manage it anymore. I stopped getting relaxers a year ago and me and my mom are going natural. I have new growth I just want it to grow faster and have way more growth without doing the big chop until necessary
I’m going through kind of the same thing i’m in middle school and my nana told me my hair was to thick and unmanageable she relaxed and hot combed it I thought it was right for my hair but I realized I should love what I was born with so i’m trying to have healthy hair now but my mom doesn’t know anything because she still perms her hair so I am struggling 😩😭
Going through the same thing. Im sooo in love with your results!! Like WOW 😍😍😍Im at the stage where my hair is just frizzy, I wish you would’ve said what your friend said and what products you used 😩😩 that would’ve really helped
Yes sis😭😭😭I saw your video in a suggested list. It’s beautiful! Never too late to keep getting inspiration as I grow my natural hair. Hair goals😍😍😍😍. I want to wear my own hair at my wedding way in the future and for graduation lol. Thank you for this blessing 💜.
I'm really out here at 21 trying to finally transition my hair and it's looking exactly how yours did in the beginning (except more damaged and much much shorter bc I've literally never worn my hair natural. Ever since I was old enough to get a relaxer, I've had one. - maybe younger bc my mother was a beautician and went to school to do hair and she ofc knew what was best :) ) And I don't know how to take care of it properly and I've been on this since around last year?? And I am struggling ! Your channel is a godsend thank you so much
Listen baby it’s never too late to start!! & don’t let anyone tell you different 💁🏽♀️ What are you struggling with exactly? What have you been doing with your hair?
@@CaramelCoils right now I'm struggling with making my hair look good without flat ironing it or cutting it off (yet). Though I do flat iron it less that I did before. (I would flat iron it every day and not wrap it at night. Wash every morning. Did not know what I deep condition was. It is heckin damaged) now I wash once a week to two weeks. I deep condition after and when I'm done with that process, I flat iron it once and that now lasts me until my next wash. The thing is, the back of my hair (it was cut closer to my scalp last time I got it styled) looks decent and has defined curls after conditioning, but my front where all the relaxed hair is is not cooperating. Think anna from frozen in the mornings. And when it gets humid, the new growth gets really thick and puffy while the ends are still straight as ever and it looks awful
@@CaramelCoils Just transitioning to natural. Thanks for the tips. Hoping to acquire the fullness like yours ( but totally embracing my own hair type).
Candise Charmaine Lol trust me I know the feeling, I’ve been there!! But I’m here to tell you it’s not. You just have to be patient 😩 How long have you been without heat?
Caramel Coils Since August of this year when the damage occured. I'm dealing with split ends and tangles every day. Some parts of my hair are damaged from roots to ends and then other parts just the ends are still limp and bone straight, but my whole head of hair tangles like a nightmare! I don't want to cut it all off but at this point I don't think I have a choice.
Candise Charmaine oh noo 😩 Honestly, it seems like that’s probably your best bet 😕 Save yourself the headache of dealing with tangles on hair that isn’t even healthy! Just think about how much your hair would’ve grown post big chop, if you actually cut it when you first got the heat damage.
Have you ever had issues with breakage and thin hair? If so what products do you recommend to make it thicker? Is it okay to still wear protective hairstyles and still be able to get it to not only get longer but thicker while tucked away? My hair grows in protective hairstyles but its so thin.
Wow I was also scared to put my bonnet on in front of white friends LOL I even started sleeping on cotton pillows without a bonnet and my ends looked horrible

Thank you this gave me hope to go natural my hair is currently straight it’s really heat damaged and it’s straight my hair is naturally really curly and this video gives me hope that i can get my natural hair back ❤️❤️
Adri Santini yess, that was the goal! You can do it boo. Just be patient, consistent, & motivated 💕
That makes me so happy!! & thank you 🥰 Sorry I’m just seeing this but how it’s going for you so far??
Caramel Coils your welcome 😍 and no worries . But yes the journey is going good so far !! No heat has touched this head 😂
Your hair is so pretty !!!!😍
Mia Averie thank you 🥰
Her voice is so beautiful and she is too😍💛💛💯
Same with the relaxer story, my hair was almost down to my waist when I first got a relaxer and it never passed my shoulder. Than one day I grabbed these Scissors and I just chopped. Now my curly hair after one year and a half is almost down to my shoulders. (Before you ask, in my family hair grows fast so it depends on your genetics)
Yup seems like a lot of us have similar stories 😩 But look at us now! 🤗
Enjoyed the video! You and your hair are BEAUTIFUL!!! I, too, wish you had shared your secret to moisturizing. This is encouragement for my daughter and I. THANKS!
Wow, we went to the same University 🤘🏾💚💛 finally found someone with a similar hair type. Your content is actually helpful. Thank you sis 🙏🏾
i saw your pic on twitter of your before &’ after so i was surprised you had a vid on how you achieved the growth. your hair looks amazinggg def gave me hope to keep going
Yess you got this boo!! 🥰💪🏾
I’m in her high school phase right now and after watching this I feel more confident that I can get my hair like hers
Awww Steph you’re so inspiring! You make me want to wear my natural hair more!! 😭
Christina Benoit ❤️❤️😭

Wheww your curls, fro and straightened hair are allll beautiful 😍 I can’t wait to take care of my hair again and stop with these wigs
RaeLaRoux thank you, means a lot 💕😭 But yess sis what are we waiting for? 👀👀👀
@@CaramelCoils the length. im trying to stay in protective styles to drop inches on everyone lmao
your hair is so pretty im crying. My hair is damaged and everything but idk what to do . Because my mom love me to get perms and relaxing my hair for some reas
on ): this just makes me really sad honestly that i have not natural hair
JESUS loves you. JESUS is your king. GOD made you wonderful and beautiful in his image.
I know this is old but it gives me hope. Thanks so much for the encouragement.
Of course! Old but still very relevant. You got this 💪🏾🙌🏾
personally my mom had permed my hair since i came out of the womb. but fr i have no pictures of me with natural hair. she did protective styles while it was permed and eventually i believed i was just born with straight her
well i had a wash day today and my hair is back. it’s too short for a puff but i know protective styles are helping me. wish me luck!
Your hairs mad beautiful, I love those little tight curls
Thank youu ☺️
This video is so good, we have the same exact hair type. Thank you 💜
wow your hair looks great!!!!!!
loved this because i’m going natural from a relaxer and my curl pattern is not it
Thank you for sharing your journey!
Honestly this is the first transition video that I actually truly enjoy watching !!! Keep up the good work💕
Franchesca Pichardo Aw wow that means a lot!! Thank you & will do 🥰❤️
omg this was so informative. there should be more advocates for natural hair like yourself - that way the pressure to have straight hair will slowly go down in the black community and mothers won’t be as adamant for their daughters to have straight hair and those black girls won’t feel the need to want the same hair as their Latino or white friends
taejindda95 ❤️❤️ The natural hair community has definitely grown in the last few years so I do think this has alleviated the pressure to a certain extent. We’ve definitely come a long way!
YOUR STORY IS SO DAMN RELATABLE! THANK YOU!
How long exactly you’ve been natural? Your gorgeous¡!❤️.
Girl you really are hair goals. I love the curly bang look. I was 2ce a week also. Shampoo 1ce a week and cowash every midweek.
Daisy Flower aw thanks boo 🥰
This is like the exact same thing I’m going through. My mom got me a relaxer at like 8 because she couldn’t manage it anymore. I stopped getting relaxers a year ago and me and my mom are going natural. I have new growth I just want it to grow faster and have way more growth without doing the big chop until necessary
Hey! Just came across you on IG. Your curls are beautiful! 🇯🇲
itsmynatural_ life Aw hey! Thank youu 💛💛
What products did you use?
And your hair looks gorgeous 🥰
Please please do a video on how you wear your hair or what you do to it when you're going swimming.
This is the situation im in now and im cutting my hair in summer to start my natural hair journey ♥️
Wow I watched this at the right time, you are inspiring me to push on with my kinky hair as well. Thank you :)
Ndeye Thioubou my pleasure! You got this boo 💘💪🏾
I’m going through kind of the same thing i’m in middle school and my nana told me my hair was to thick and unmanageable she relaxed and hot combed it I thought it was right for my hair but I realized I should love what I was born with so i’m trying to have healthy hair now but my mom doesn’t know anything because she still perms her hair so I am struggling 😩😭
loved every minute of this!! 💚
Chloé-Ana Braidy so glad 💘💘
Going through the same thing. Im sooo in love with your results!! Like WOW 😍😍😍Im at the stage where my hair is just frizzy, I wish you would’ve said what your friend said and what products you used 😩😩 that would’ve really helped
Thank youu 💘💘 & I’ll be doing a video on that in the near future so stay tuned
Yes sis😭😭😭I saw your video in a suggested list. It’s beautiful! Never too late to keep getting inspiration as I grow my natural hair. Hair goals😍😍😍😍. I want to wear my own hair at my wedding way in the future and for graduation lol. Thank you for this blessing 💜.
Thank youu 😭😘 so glad I could inspire you boo ❤️
You give honest and helpful advice. Your hair looks healthy and awesome. Thank You.
😊💖💯
Thank you, I appreciate that ☺️🧡
@@CaramelCoils you are so very welcome. 😊💖✌
And when it gets humid, the new growth gets really thick and puffy while the ends are still straight as ever and it looks awful
you are absolutely gorgeous!!! that beautiful natural hair and no make up???? Holy moly! Yass girl!!!
Aww you’re too sweet!! Thank you 😭🥰
@@CaramelCoils Just transitioning to natural. Thanks for the tips. Hoping to acquire the fullness like yours ( but totally embracing my own hair type).
You are SO right about the liberation feeling❤
Loved this video! I really felt that when you talked about being scared to get your hair wet lol your hair is so beautiful 😍✨
Amanda D'Souza yess lol thank you 😘💛
Finally someone new to watch that I actually like ✊🏻😻 you did great
Aww lol thanks boo 😘😘
Thank you for sharing the good and the bad. Really helpful!
michboyd10 Of course, so glad! 😊
I'm just so ready to grow this heat damage out. My biggest fear is that it has permanently altered my curl pattern and I really don't want that 😭😭😭
Candise Charmaine Lol trust me I know the feeling, I’ve been there!!
I love your hair! You have inspired me to try again!
Pamjay Jay yess 🙌🏾🙌🏾 if you really put your mind to it you can do it ❤️ I have faith in you
Your hair is so beautiful!! All your hard work def paid off!
From this point on I'm going natural 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞 thank you for the inspiration
Pina Pineapples YAASS lol omg. So glad my video could do that for you! You got this boo 👏🏾💓
Have you ever had issues with breakage and thin hair? If so what products do you recommend to make it thicker? Is it okay to still wear protective hairstyles and still be able to get it to not only get longer but thicker while tucked away? My hair grows in protective hairstyles but its so thin.
So beautiful! Love it 😍
Heybrownskinnn thanks boo 🥰
Your hair is beautiful!!😍😭🙌
I could honestly cry right now thank you
Why? 🙁
Wow I was also scared to put my bonnet on in front of white friends LOL I even started sleeping on cotton pillows without a bonnet and my ends looked horrible
Denee Weathers I know the struggle all too well smh. But now I don’t give a damn who sees me in my bonnet 🤣 it is what it is
@@CaramelCoils i facetime people in bonnets 😂 i’d rather have a “hat” on then split ends
