This whole project cost $2700 in materials. Plywood is very expensive right now. I don't think the Billy is as crappy as you think it is. But I'll keep you posted!
Didn't mean to be derogatory of the build at all. Billy is amazing value for what you get and you have made a good bespoke unit out of standardised parts which is frugal. But chipboard shelving never lasts as it has very little strength under any load. Yes ply is expensive but you can always swap over in the future when the shelves start looking the worse for wear. Everyone's brain works differently. Some visual or neuro-divergent people can remember where books are better by spine color. Honestly, it's a little closed minded to say that because someone organizes an item differently than you'd like that it disqualifies it.
@@jackalterman did you see my reply to the original poster? So your mind probably works best to have the books in alphabetical order by the title or author. Or maybe subjects are all together. That’s fine. But my mind works so that I can remember the color of the spine and then I find the book. I also have an app that I’ve cataloged each book into. So if I’m searching for something, I can also search the app. Just because your system (and brain) is different than mine, doesn’t mean I’m not a real reader. Do you see how that could feel hurtful or discriminatory to someone? There’s room for both of us to enjoy our books as we want without discounting someone and calling them “not a real reader.” It’s ok to expand your beliefs on this subject, I give you permission
It might be the only acceptable order for you because that's how your brain thinks. My brain works better with the color order so I won't be "fixing it." You should know your comment makes you sounds a little narrow minded, FYI

Why is there space between bookcase 2 and 3? They are not trimmed together.
