how's the wifi speed and throttling with the paid version of expressvpn? I use ProtonVPN (free at the moment) but it throttles down my internet speed from about 230mbps to around 20-60mbps depending on which free server it's directing to.

I'm actually always on a VPN, even at home that's the best way to stay a little bit protected, of course it also depends of your browsing habits and common sense.
Honestly this kind of sponsored video occasionally annoys me recently... mainly because of the claims. A VPN inherently doesn’t make you that much more secure because unlike what they keep claiming almost everything on the internet is already encrypted for transfer these days. Tom Scott’s video is certainly a good reference for this, but tl;dr your data is already plenty secure for the most part, and advertisers haven’t used your IP for tracking in ages and if somebody is really able to crack the existing protections they can almost certainly also break the VPN. The main benefit of a VPN is avoiding most of the usual legal issues for piracy (because for the most part the people sending out these C&Ds don’t really care enough and go for the low hanging fruit) and avoiding region locks. Both of those are perfectly fine use cases, but they’re not what these ads say and I honestly just find these ads misleading because they tell you there is a threat that just isn’t real.
