My jaw dropped the moment I heard MISA’s first note in this concert. She always, always has fantastic bass tone, but in this show, for me as a bassist, my entire musical life flashed in front of my eyes. The last time a bass player hit me like that was in March of 1981 by Geddy Lee on the Moving Pictures Tour.
Kanami is contracted by PRS Miku is contracted by Zemitas guitars
looks like your just going to have to do yet another band maid reaction to correct the ESP/PRS thing hhehehe. might as well try something like "Puzzle" which you get to hear a hell of a lot of that PRS
Kanami (lead guitar) plays PRS Custom 24's (not ESP) through Bogner Pandora XTC amps and Mesa Boogie 4x12 cab (She used to use Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifiers). She is a PRS official artiste.
MISA on Bass uses Black Cloud Basses, a boutique company from Japan. She no longer runs through Orange, she has switched to Aguilar Amps. MISA is a Black Cloud artiste with her own signature model.
Miku on rhythm guitar plays Zemaitis Guitars through 5150's . She is a Zemaitis artist with her own signature model called 'The Flappy Pigeon'.
Akane on Drums uses Tama - a five piece Tama Star Bubinga kit with Zildjian cymbals. Her snare isn't Tama though, it was a Ludwig Black Beauty 14x5 but recently switched to a Gretsch G4169BBR Bell Brass snare. And yes a DW 9002 double kick pedal (but with the drive shaft swapped for a Pearl DS-300A).
As a former bass player i get goosebumps everytime i here this bass sound. 🤩
I’m having a difficult time keeping up with all these Maid reactions! 🍺🤪
JMATAB! One word: Spreadsheet. And no vacation for you. Unless you get Gary to proxy for you. 🤪🙃
Don't You Tell Me! Oh, wait! You just did.🤘😂 Now, let me tell you something: The Warning, a world-famous band from Mexico, and BAND-MAID will perform a dream two-band show! After meeting on our US tour in 2022, "The Warning" will be making their memorable first visit to Japan with BAND-MAID! Venue: EX THEATER RIPPONGI Date: Jun 12, 2024.
Plus… BAND-MAID release a new song, "Bestie," co-written with Mike Einziger of INCUBUS! The MV dropped May 1.
And… BAND-MAID HALL TOUR 2024 -- June 28, 2024 (Fri) Nagoya City Public Hall, Aichi, Japan -- July 5, 2024 (Fri) Osaka, Fenice Sakai Main Hall, -- July 14, 2024 (Sun) Kanagawa Kenmin Hall, Kanagawa -- July 21 OSAKA GIGANTIC MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024 -- Aug 16, 17 RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL 2024 in EZO -- Aug 17 SUMMER SONIC 2024
But you may have already know this. ;-) Thx, Harm!
Misa plays Black Cloud Private Reserve Bass's that are custom made for her. I believe the prefered model is the Black Smoke
Black Smoker, with an R. She's got a signature model now, too.
i was wondering what model she was playing on in this concert that is white. didnt realise she also had an all white version of the black smoker
Akane is contracted by Tama drums Zildgin cymbals and has her own signature sticks by Wincent
I always enjoy your insights from an audio engineer perspective. I always love the cadence of Saiki's vocals. I recommend From Now On MV next.
Ok First part of one of my files, this one about Saiki and Miku's vocal ranges.
Miku the Secondary Lead Vocalist is a Mezzo-Soprano, meaning she can sing lower and higher than Saiki the Primary Lead Vocalist, who is a Contralto/Alto. However Miku doesn't have the same vocal power that Saiki does. I have two different analogies explaining it. The first is audiophile: Miku only has a pre-amp installed, while Saiki has has the pre-amp and amplifier installed. The second is the hose: Take a hose with a screw nozzle, open it up so it covers the largest area, it doesn't spray very far or hard, that is Miku's voice. Tighten up the nozzle and now it can go very far with much more power, but it doesn't cover as wide an area, that is Saiki's voice.
Next about Akane's double Pedal. It is a base DW5000, that is modified with a Pearl Z-Connector Rod and custom wound springs, chains and beaters. She according to rumors she had been seen in a few Tokyo Music stores checking out the DW9000 and pedals from other manufacturers.
And the Bass Lead duel was brought back for this show, it had been removed from the song back in 2019. It is just one of those things the Ladies add to certain songs during live performances, like adding a bit of garlic or as Jack at JBF Music said, oregano in the lasagna.
And Miku can actually sound EXACTLY like Saiki, but doesn't have the same vocal power that Saiki does. However as I pasted above, Saiki cannot go as high as Miku. Miku has right at a 3 full octave range, while Saiki is just over 2 and half octaves. But the two of them singing together for 10 years, and still to this day using vocal coaches to both keep their voices healthy and increase their range and power, it shows in the music.
Great analogies and info!
Their live sound has gotten so much better. These beauties can absolutely rip!
We always support the music the maids put out 😉
Side note:
PRS for Kanami
Black Cloud for Misa
Zemaitis for Miku
Wincent hickory sticks for Akane & bananas :)
And. Kanami = bogner amp: miku is a 5150 evh2; misa is now on agullaria
Misa is contracted by black cloud basses
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 my all time favorite Band-Maid song because of the " conversation " between MISA and Kanami 🤙🏽
Akane can actually do a pretty fast double kick sound with one foot.
Textbook example? Oh, well, you should check out their instrumental song "Onset" official live version. It's stunning and everything sounds perfect in that song.
Thanks again for the reaction and comments. Check out Play! (official live video). It was originally composed as an instrumental but Saiki loved the song so much she had Miku write lyrics for it so she can join in on the fun. Another must to check out is Moratorium. It's a real banger. Cheers!
-chan is an honorific similar to cchi, -kun, -san, -sama, -senpai and -sensei. So, although Sai-chan is also correct, Saiki is her name. :)
Chan is a more intimate version of san.
MISA has her basses custom modded from Black Smoker stock but they have just released a signature model for her, the TM BETA-JMB5 MISA. It's available on the company's website for about £3,500/$4,300.
Don't forget shipping g and customs duties will add a few hundred.
👍👍BAND-MAID awesomeness.🔥🔥🔥 🖖❤
Band Maid doing Band Maid things.
saiki, sai-chan, the queen, the ice queen... the names and monickers that maidiacs call her as.
and she refers to us as potatoes. 😆
Another great breakdown Master HC. I knew the Maidiacs would be coming for you as soon as you said..."Don't come for me OK?".😂 But no worries, it's all good. You're not the first, and you won't be the last, to captivated by the sweet sounds of Kanami on Lead Guitar and MISA on Bass. No Chaos in the Harmonics there. Keep up the journey. I would like to suggest "Daydreaming" to show a different side of Band-Maid. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
Saiki is her name but Sai-Chan is a form of respect.
It's a Paul Reed Smith Guitar ;)
A great next song for you check out from Band-Maid would be "Moratorium"!
Misa plays a Black Cloud Private Reserve bass.
Not enough crowd in the mix. I've heard this song live and I know the fans were in full force this show; the crowd is singing that chorus hard. Really too bad it isn't filled into the mix to do the actual energy of the song justice. That said, still an absolute banger.
I suggest Choose Me official MV. It's their most listened to song on Spotify and has been in a movie (Kate) and TV show (Peacemaker). Actually, they made a cameo in the movie playing that song.

Please, do rewind!
I just can't believe you can tell the difference between this PRS and the AddicTone guitars that Kanami used to play... as a sound engineer you know that the characteristic sound depends more on the amplifier and speakers than on the guitar itself.😕
Good Reaction! Try Next! japanese female HeavyMetalBand LOVEBITES/"Stand And Deliver"
For a song with more complex music production I would like to see an analysis of 踊 (Odo) by Ado. It has lots of shifts in texture and genre, and interesting effects on the vocals and instruments. Plus the vocal performance is spectacular.
I always put Saiki in the comments as opposed to Sai-chan because not all fans know that's her nickname
Jay do you ever go out? I can't blame you if you don't when you have B-M to keep you company :)
You look like a man of culture. May I suggest:
Power metal/thrash: Love Bites - Holy War
Hard rock/metal: Nemophila - Revive
Harajuku-core (nu-metalish): Hanabie - We Love Sweets
Hardcore punk: Otoboke Beaver - Don't Light My Fire
All Japanese, all female, all kick a$$!
I dare you to do the last one! You do have chaos in your name.😂👊🤘
Try Gacharic Spin - I wish I - live end East of Eden - This moment (only MV version)
I have the feeling that you enjoy Band Maid music a bit 🤔 Come on ... let's call you a Maidiac 🤣
And you can have other Bands besides Band Maid! That's absolutely fine, as long as you come back to Band Maid now and then 😀
Have you done NEMOPHILA yet iff not please do RISE or AMA-TE-RAS
