I own an auto 370z & driving her hard on mountain roads is so nice & so much fun, like you said the gear changes in the auto's are so fast. You do notice the auto & not having to change gears which for me gives me more confidence to drive it a bit harder.
For a sports car I want a manual. It's about more than 0-60 times for me. It's simply more fun for me, even if they could shave a second off with an automatic. People should get the car that resonates with them, regardless of transmission, cylinder count, make, etc. Don't be shitty about what other people want.
Epic Milk got my dream car 2 years ago... 0 cylinders 6spd manual. 1.3L displacement and I have loved manuals since I started driving when I was 9.. Our work truck on the farm was a manual and all our grain trucks are manuals... And its way better in the mountains being able to just down shift and let the trans help maintain speed. Anyone guess my car BTW?
When I was looking for my Z, I wanted three very specific things. 1. Hard top. Not the convertible. 2. Sports package. 3. Manual Transmission. I thought, if I'm going to put up the money for a sports car, I better ensure that I enjoy the thing as much as I can. So, manual tranny was the way to go for me.
ArokhX yeah manual stick is the way to go for sports cars like this. This is what you use when you drive your girlfriend to a nice dinner and not for daily heavy traffic driving.
I think you gave a pretty unbiased and good review. I have a 370Z and prefer the auto as I do a mix of city traffic and country driving, but manual cars are fun, but more so on a motorbike.
Thanks! Both have there benefits. Depends on what you want. I had a Supra the last 2 years and it was great since I needed the comfort and I used it for a lot of highways miles. But just sold it to buy the new Z in a manual because I don't need a comfy auto anymore. Love riding the bikes for sure!
Always had manual sports cars, but I'm going to buy the auto Nismo after I drove it. It's faster and feels a lot like a manual in manual mode (although boring in Drive), because it has direct lock-up 2-7 gears and even engine braking. Also, the shifting is so fast--certainly faster than I shift.
Automated Manuals and I'm not even ashamed. DCT in my old E92M and PDK in my current 911 Turbo. Disclaimer: I've only lived in high traffic areas: SD, LA, Downtown Chicago
I love your honest and fair comparison between the 2. When I bought my G37s (auto) about 2 years ago I was debating hard between and auto and a stick. But man I live Los Angeles and I have to 30mins on the 405 to work and back. So I was happy to get the auto. But thankfully I was able to get the S which comes with paddles and from time to time I'll drive in manual mode, not as engaging as stick. But somewhat close. But I do have to give props to those who have a stick and drive in bumper to bumper traffic. IDK how you guys do it, because that shit was drive me crazy.
I also find that there’s less criticism with auto’s depending on the type of car... if I had an M3 with the DCT as opposed to the manual I wouldn’t get as much crap as if I had an automatic BRZ/FRS over the manual.
That’s because certain types of autos pair great with certain cars and some don’t, a 7spd dual clutch auto paired to a high revving v8 is much more desirable of a combination than a slow torque converter auto paired to a low revving 4 banger
Ok, so I wanted to get the automatic but to be honest, I hated the thought of fan boys with manuals giving me shit of owning a sports car thats not manual. I know, it shouldn't matter what people think, but it does get to me. I also didn't want to get cheated from getting such a nice sports car without fully experiencing it through a manual. FYI, I don't know how to drive a stick and believe its too late too learn, as in why bother now, most cars are paddle shift. I also commute an hour in traffic to and from work. Thank you guys for posting this video like you promised!
So I actually own a 2017 370z nismo the exact same one this guy has it's also in pear white only difference is mine is an automatic and his is manual, anyways let me just say this I like to think of it like I have both options granny Smith apple mode (D) and my paddle shifters, at any time whole you are driving the car you can literally and I mean literally switch between the two, going to work granny Smith apple mode also saves you on gas, bomb ass chick, friend is in the car, guy wants to run it paddle shifters! It's like having the best of both worlds sure all the gear heads will tell you fuck that you can't feel the car you're not getting that relationship but honestly I have an automatic and when you got the paddle shifters going I'm like man fuck a clutch this shit is pretty much the same thing, not hating on manuals or anthing im just saying, automatic vs manual should never dictate who you are and what you know you like, ill consider myself a gear head either way, oh and also if it's gonna be you're daily just think of how much more convenient it would be to able to switch between the two just saying!
I can't lie, some of my decision was like this too. I'm sure a lot of people are like that as well, but they won't admit it. I think with the DSG, people are little more accepting of it. But they still will talk shit if you buy an automatic tho, which is lame. My last car was a auto and I would always have people who would try to make fun of it.
counter to what Federico said, paddles to me are not a replacement for manual, the feel is very different but some people might not care about that. for reference, I bought my 370z without knowing how to drive a manual at all (2 hour exp max), and I've been daily driving it with no problem at all and am completely comfortable with it. so no, it's never too late to learn
I knew nothing about stick shift. Till I picked up my shit from dealership and stalled it on way out. Took me a while but I am pro now driving it for past 7 years changed 3 different cars! Love it.
Having a Manual is amazing because these days people don't know how to drive them, add a quick release wheel, ultimate thief proof. Put the wheel in your backpack and your car will never be stolen.
"a few minutes later after scrolling down the comments..." ok...... lots of people love both auto and manuel but i don't understand y u guys r arguing about it... like which one is better... lots of people have different needs of transmissions in a car... They're just used to it (all day long/everyday)...or in love with it... or... I don't know... u guys say something about it...
you guys have to understand that a lot of people choose manual not because it's faster or more performant, but rather being more connected to the car. there's no such thing as a better transmission (manual vs auto) because every person has a different preference. not everyone drives to drag race or set the best times at the track.
Being in the autotmotive field, there's no doubt that efficiency and speed wise that the auto is superior. However, the experience of the manual is always gonna be the winner in my books. There's just no equivalent feeling to banging gears and hitting the clutch and heel toeing and whatnot, even as my daily is a manual and being in my fair share of chicago traffic I wouldn't want it any other way. I've been in higher performance auto vehicles such as a 458 (per those companies that go around to different tracks and you can drive supercars for whatever price) and not once did I think "wow this shifts so fast." Auto is the efficient way to go, manual is the fun way to go
CroutonsRawk learning manual doesn't make you a better driver, it makes you better at a manual transmission, not speeding is what makes you a better driver
That’s why get 2 different cars. A manual and an automatic daily driver. Manual gives you full control over your vehicle and it demands your attention unlike automatic.
For me, sports cars are by far my favorite type of car. I just love how awesome they perform compared to other cars. Not even muscle cars (another favorite of mine) can stand up to the well rounded performance a sports car offers. I mean, they're fast, accelerate quickly, are very precise when turning around corners. To top it all off, they look awesome too with their sleek and low profile design. My favorite car is the C7 Corvette. Love the design, and the fact you're getting supercar performance while only paying a fraction of the cost. Now the question is, which transmission is best for a sports car? In my opinion I think that all depends on what you're looking for. If you're just looking for something fun and interactive, a manual may be for you. But for me personally I find the automatic transmission to be much more "sporty". It really makes a sports car true to its name. Sure, driving manual could be fun. But in my opinion I don't really think having my smooth ride down a winding road interrupted by a gear shift sounds fun. Or hitting a sharp turn on a track and having to downshift. It draws attention away from the feeling of freedom that comes with driving a sports car down the road. For me at least. At the end of the day all I can say is, drive what you enjoy the most. The best thing about cars is our freedom to choose. A freedom that is slowly being lost as the market moves to pushing sales of boring crossovers and electric vehicles.
I own a 2015 6MT 370z Nismo and have found myself on many occasions thinking about trading it for an auto. I love the involvement of a manual when hooning about on country roads but for general driving around town I tend to fall out of love with it. For such a new car, the gearbox is really quite embarrassing. It's so noisy it actually makes me cringe at car shows and pray to the car gods that it doesn't clunk/grind when changing 1st to 2nd gear at a low speed - something it is renowned for when cold. I think I need to try an auto to see if it would convince me the manual is better after all..
I know I’m late haha but if I drove a 350Z and a Rsx type S both manual for years but now I got an Auto 370z and I love this auto 370Z ! I actually enjoy the car way more , the manual mode / paddle shifters mode is really fun literally makes it feel like a manual and it shift so so fast! 💨
I personally came from a Genesis coupe 3.8 auto, to a Terminator Cobra manual (of course). I have to say, I love manual transmission A LOT more than autos. They're just more fun to the enthusiast
If I didn't drive a manual in heavy traffic I'd probably fall asleep. I don't get why everyone always says bumper to bumper traffic is super annoying while driving a manual. I like needing to work the clutch and shift through the first couple gears. Like you said, it makes the most mundane drives an experience. I want to have to drive my car, where's the fun if it does all the work for you? I can't flatten my pedal at all times, so a clutch and stick fills in the gap. Edit: and anybody who says paddle shifters have the same effect are dead wrong and must've never actually driven a manual. Easing up in traffic is all in the clutch.
Totally agree, I think manual makes traffic way more interesting. In an auto I just get really impatient with traffic but in a manual you are still driving the car at low speeds and the transmission still engages you
If you look at most high end hyper cars you will see 80 percent of them only come in automatic because they are faster and the paddles allow for more speed and quicker shifts
Very true. Once you get to the supercar territory, it flip flops. To truly experience the car's performance, an automated system is the only thing quick enough to keep up with the engine.
Bros FOURR Speed learn your shit man. F1 cars use to be manual transmissions. Those are airplanes on the ground. Autos get quicker straight away shifts yeah but when its a track with turns its all about the driver.
Brian Davis that is true now a days Porsche and very fast super car engineers that work for either car manufacture, now work for very reputable aftermarket business in the U.K and the U.S.A. Look up Jr garage gearboxes in the U.K. or Vivid racing in the U.K I got one ship from the U.K. its such a sick upgrade for automatics they bump up your torque more then h.p. It's a tune for torque in the transmission.
Really just preference. Both are pretty solid transmission and equally reliable. I defiantly would only buy the manual just because its more fun and you can really use the car to its potential. But the auto is pretty good for what it is
I just bought my 2009 370Z Nismo and I got the manual transm. I love it, I really didn`t know how good this cars are until I test it myself, but watching your explanation I would say the Auto transm. is a more advanced technology because you can shift up or down like manual T. the difference is that you do not need a Clutch and you get the same result than manual T. I can hear the sound when you shift. and remember no headache on traffic, and they are a bit faster. I always hear manual T. more fun, but I do not know why? If I have to shouse I`l get the the Manual Transmission, all school brather. Thanks for your videos you are good.
Honestly, people just need to be more open minded. For the manual guys, take the time and go drive a good paddle shifting transmission. You will understand just how useful it can be for spirited driving on a backroad or on a track, as well as having the ability to use it as a convenient commuter car makes it a very viable option, especially for those who use it as a daily driver. Automatic guys, you have to understand that driving a manual has a MUCH MUCH more engaging feel to driving than even a paddle shifting transmission does. It is less efficient and it is slower than a paddle shifting transmission, but the thrill of a perfect heel-toe downshift and being able to feel the mechanical feedback of a clutch and shifter is truly a very engaging and wonderful experience. Both are wonderful for different types of drivers and different types of driving scenarios.
Driven auto all my life until now. Paddle shifts just don't engage me like a manual transmission. Your grandma can learn to drive paddles...it's just too easy, too clinical. I also don't find manuals to be a chore in traffic - I think it's fun to drive smoothly at low speeds too. I'm hooked onto manual for sure now.
I have driven DCT in 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera S and Cayman and they are BORING. Manual transmission is more engaging , fun! Only those who don't know how to drive stick would post comments like this.
I had an auto 350z in college and the stigma and flack of owning an auto sports car really gets to you, especially knowing how much faster the manual was than the auto in the z33 generation and also how uncool it was to have a car that people would memeas "retarded." I took it to heart and when I picked up my next car, a manual WRX I finally realized why an enthusiast would think such a way. I refuse to go back to automatic now, I don't care if it's a flappy paddle, super fast shifting, godly transmission, there is ZERO replacement for the feeling of having full control of your car, from downshifting, rev matching, heel and toe, etc...the drive is so much more rewarding and I feel that I didn't waste the potential of the car. Im in la traffic constantly going to Orange county and honestly, the complaints abt manual in traffic is from the lazy asses out there. It's not that bad and not that different from driving in the city, mind you I have 12 hour shifts and a long commute back and forth and if anything, manual makes my commute worth it. I'll never go back and someday wish to swap the transmission in my Z when time comes for an engine swap. Manual is the only true enthusiast transmission, I don't care if your auto is faster and more advance, it cannot replace the connection between car and driver.
CroutonsRawk how are you not wasting the potential of the car if your lap time, 1/4 mile time, and 0-60 is slower.... ? it has more potential as an automatic so as a manual you are waiting its potential
Theedd9991 because an auto car is wasting my potential to be the best driver I can be, it's not always about speed, it's not always about numbers, it's about the experience and I'm sorry no matter how fast an auto can go, it's not as much fun as having full control of the car
Couldn't have said it any better, I went from driving auto to manual & no auto will ever make me go back. Manual is a way of life & like you said it just makes the drives so much better. & then the feeling of dropping the gears down & slamming on the gas woooo boy there's nothing like that.
CroutonsRawk you know what's crazy is that what you said is true many people say they prefer auto cause of traffic and that its a big deal but in my opinion I was like nah it won't get to me and here I am driving my stick and it still hasn't got to me and I won't have it any other way always will be manual . It's a stress reliever for me when I'm mad I just bang the fucking gears and it feels so fucking good then just tapping the fucking paddle shifters but to each of their own
I have an auto 350z and i am usually glad because i drive in heavy traffic often. I also would agree as well that the Z cars have very good auto transmissions. They're still very engaging and fun but convenient when needed which for me is nearly every day. There are days though that i would like the extra connection with the vehicle but i still feel that the auto is currently a better option for me personally.
I have a G37s now but bought a nissan 240sx when I was 18 and it was a manual, and loved the connection I had with a manual car. My G now is my daily driver and won't trade my manual for an auto just love the feel I have with my car.
I drive a 2014 Q60s with a automatic transmission. I rarely use the paddle shifters because it is hard not to hit the rev limiter. I find if I leave it in sport mode it will do all the work for me including downshifts during heavy braking.
LOL Same as you but reverse. I bought and auto and love it. But there are times where I wish it was a full stick. But that 405 in Los Angeles made my decision for me...
I bought a 2015 370Z Nismo same color as yours, almost all of my cars have been white, I went with the automatic cause my wife doesn't drive a manual & I was not about to teach her in a 370Z Nismo, I'm so happy I went with the automatic, I feel instant power and the rev matching is a plus. I'm always in heavy south Florida traffic so a manual is not as fun in traffic.
Driving manual for now in my first car and is fun but the downside being stuck in London traffic can be a bit of work sometimes. When I can get around to getting my dream car the Nismo 370z I will then decide on what transmission is the best option.
You do know that you can still paddle shift without putting it in manual mode!! I have owned both and honestly exhaust sounds lot better in manual than automatic.
Not yet. I was thinking about upgrading the exhaust system. But I haven't dipped my toes on the whole modes yet, well other than adding the "tail as turn"
It depends on the person. If you're the laid back relaxed type, automatic is the way to go in heavy traffic for your daily. If you constantly need to be entertained don't know how to chill out, go with the standard.
Nice unbiased video. I have both a manual and an automatic car. Manuals are definitely more driver engagement, but if in traffic, totally suck...especially if on a steep incline. Bought an automatic 350z only because of the great deal...wasn’t even looking for a car as I have a few.
Thanks for sharing! They are both fun in their own ways depending on the drivers needs. Manuals in traffic aren't fun for sure, but a lot of fun on the back roads!!
I'd choose the manual... I think with automatic most cars just feel like a car and nothing more... With manual you get a better feel for your car and it actually feels like a friend and not just a car
Glad I got the Auto here, I can lean-back and surprise about any passenger with paddle shift performance, and its rev capabilities, and not have wear issues of clutch, throw-out bearings or warped pressure plates as I always seem to have in my earlier manuals, still enjoy a calm ride, or even attend most attention to a conversation when necessary. I don't really care for the constant rubbing and brushing of the back, inside of my arm on the bolstered seat while working a manual.
Well, clutches still exist in Autos. You just don't have to interact with it. My brother in law also prefers autos, got himself a challenger with decent performance in automatic. It's definitely a fun car to drive, but I like my manual more, personally.
I drive a manual everyday and I don't even notice that I shift anymore, so I don't find it annoying at all. I'll take off and then I'm like holy shit when did I get into 5th gear lol
Austin Knight Same. My friend refuses to drive a manual because it's "too much to think about". Like no, I've been driving stick for years and don't think about it one bit.
Almost every car I have ever owned had manual transmissions. I live in Southern California where there are a lot of hills, and a lot of traffic, and I have gotten into a few scary situations on steep hills where I could roll back into the car behind me, or roll off a cliff if I did not let the clutch out just right. I moved to Phoenix for a while which is very flat, but now I am back in San Diego and much older now, so I would no longer consider a manual transmission. I also had a Cadillac ELR which was very economical but definitely not as much fun to drive as the Z's I owned, so hopefully I will be back in a 370Z by the end of this week, and it is auto.
shiftable automatic is the best of both worlds. stay in drive mode for the daily driving and heavy traffic, switch to manual mode when you wanna have fun or at the track. simple
Silv P thanks for answering my question even tho you didn’t know I asked it. I’m buying the 2020 mustang twister orange and stuck between manual and auto because I want to experience the power but I like the efficacy of the automatic but then I was wondering if I could just have both and if it works how you explained my mind is now clear
It is! The manual is a lot more fun I think for the Z! I wouldn't buy the auto, some cars you just need the manual and the rev matching is cool if you are still learning to do that!
Yes, stick shift is pure enjoyment. No slushbox/DCT excuses. All you need for fun is power, 3 pedals stickshift, chasis, lightweight, and an open air top whether it's a sunroof or targa top or convertible.
It’ll Make You Cooler Say what you will, but there can be no argument on this point: If you see a sports car with an automatic transmission, you're disappointed. Perhaps even judgmental. But if the car has a manual? That's cool. Manual transmissions are cooler. Plain and simple.
Glad you liked it! Honestly both transmission have a lot to offer. I now have a GTR and have the new Z on order. DCT transmissions are great for very fast cars. But the manual in the Z will be perfect. Cars like that are most fun like that I think
I've driven both (paddle)auto and manual 370z multiple times(used to work at nissan dealership) and they both are fun and i would take either of them with the slight edge going to the manual
8:27... the guy finally says what should be said all the time by everyone: Buy the trans you want and enjoy it. It's about the owner enjoying what he/she likes, not what YOU think they should like.
The point of this video wasn't to say one is better than the other, just comparing them to see what each transmission has to offer for the 370z! Whichever one suits your needs is the one to go with! I do love the manual more, which is why I bought that, but the auto is really good too in the Z cars!
Manual transmissions have long been the enthusiasts weapon of choice. Nothing screams “I love cars!” more than three pedals and a gear lever. A manual transmission is also still the best way to feel engaged to the car you’re driving. Despite the manual control and rapid shift times of a DCT, the manual gearbox is still the more fun and most engaging to drive.
I have a 2017 Honda Accord 3.5L 6-Speed. It's always fun to drive, especially when the VTEC kicks in. The masculinity, performance, and aggressiveness of this vehicle is amazing!
So basically the only downside to having the automatic is that you're not obligated with the non-stop hassle of having to use a clutch because you enjoy stress and responsibility of it
jesseFNjames manuals are better around tracks and faster if you no lift shift and make more power to the wheels than automatics and if you no lift shift a manual there is no delay in power he was granny shifting the fuck out of it.
I bought my 370z with an automatic because it was a good deal at the time. The 7 speed is a really good transmission but I am currently looking to purchase one with the manual. The base model does not have paddle shifters unfortunately.
With the current camaro ss and mustang gt performances, I don't see any reason purchasing a 370z nismo! Maybe the styling? Styling is also outdated too!
al are you kidding with outdated styling????? Just what the hell do you think Camaro and Mustangs are designed to look like, their predecessors from the 60s! DUMBASS
Hey you stupid ass. Lets start with the facts. 370Z came out on 2009 and the styling stayed the same till now. Camaro 5th gen came out on 2009 as well and the styling changed 3 times already. Same with the mustang. Not even just styling, the power, torque, handling all is on another league on the camaro and the mustang. There is no stupid funny way to spend money on a 370z unless they swap a turbo or a supercharger from the factory. American sports cars are offering more for the same amount of money. Go do yourself and your country a favor and get one. Piece out!
al hey,let me preface my response with the fact I love Camaros and Mustangs,I have had an 83,84,and86 z28s,87,88,and a 91 Mustangs,my problem is your stupid comment, all big 3 companies are building retro pony cars, and I love the look, but to say dated styling against the Nissan s sheer stupidity. Sure the Camaro has been updated several time since 2009,but they still look almost identical, the average American couldn't tell the difference between a 2009 and 2016, please read average, sure I know the sublte differences, such as different taillights etc,but still, virtually unchanged cosmetically!
driving an automatic for like most of my life was prety cool, u could really move in sports/mode or with paddle shifters but when u hop into a manual and take that thing around for a ride it feels like a whole new car. it just feels like your drivin on a cloud once you get really good at it
I would also probably never buy an automatic cause when I'm driving home late at night with my brother's automatic there is so little to do that my mind kinda drifts off and I don't focus as much as in my manual car
Having spent 2 days test driving a 370 with an auto under higway, backroads and on mountain switchbacks, Im still abit torn on whether I'd buy one With or go manual.... I WILL say it is hella fast with that auto off the line if you paddle shift it at either its peak torque rpm in the 5 grand rpm range or shift at peak Hp rpm near redline at 7k plus.. It literally feels like ur shot outta a cannon with the upshifts happenning almost as quick as I can click the paddles..pretty certain this would beat the manual becauz theres no time lag between paddle upshifts...the down side is the soft feel of the auto tranny and the lagginess in its shifts when left in auto mode...If this were a DCT with Solid ,crisp shifts that were super fast ,I'd pick this over a manual in a heartbeat. ...Transmission choices aside, the biggest point of hesitation I have in getting one of these is the blindspots... its Really aweful and coming from a probe gt, with tons of visibility, ,the Z feels borderline dangerous whenever I got behind the wheel..
Honestly that is something that you get used too. I didn't have any issues in mind with visibility, and my brother owns an R8 that's even worse, but when you have your mirrors adjusted and you know where and when to look, it's really not that bad at all! I wouldn't let that deter you, but that's just my opinion.
Traffic excuse is pathetic, you're literally in neutral the whole time stopped like an auto. Also there's nothing auto can offer that beats the feeling of hitting a rev match yourself.
The transmission isn't the sole factor in deciding the result of a race, the driver is, not to mention the rest of the car. The only situation I can see an indisputable advantage is trying to break straight line records (which who gives a fuck?) "To go fast in a straight line you need a fast car but to go fast around the corners you need a fast driver". Also autos do have to replace clutches and when they do it'll also cost ALOT more...Poor try tho.
The Rex life literally wrong again. Not sure how you think the driver is the sole factor in a race, that's moreso with manuals because you, the driver, have to choose when to shift gears. Automatics have powertrain control modules that decide how and when to shift and when they do they execute it with virtually no powerloss. Can manuals do that? Nope. Also not sure when automatics have to replace clutch packs, never seen one go bad in the 4 autos I've owned. Even had one close to 250k miles with 0 tranny problems. But again, keep trying to make minuscule arguments to validate your shit opinion. Will we even have manuals in 10 years? Didn't think so.
Take 2 modern day cars with identical specs and 2 different transmissions..the auto will win every time. If you can't admit that, then you must really suck at math.
Looks like someone can't read "...the driver is, not to mention the rest of the car...". Go do a little research, just because you drove your car from point a-b like a granny doesn't put you in the same boat as people who put some beat on theirs. Either way, fact is they get changed and they get changed for a lot more. Letting the trans dictate when you shift completely contradicts racing where YOU want FULL control of the vehicle. The car doesn't know the lines, it doesn't know at where and when to brake or downshift. I doubt your autos were neither "modern" nor raced. But that's typical of auto drivers, celebrate SOMEONE ELSE'S hypothetical victory to compensate for having a vagina and not being able to do it themselves.
I very much enjoyed my 6 speed manual 370Z. I never drove one with an auto. I wished that they would have a dual clutch like the GTR. I presently have a 7 speed manual Corvette Stingray. Both of them have rev matching and I really like that a great deal. I don't like the mushy feeling of most autos due to the torque converter. The shifting and the clutch feel of my 370Z was much improved when my throw out bearing died and the dealer replaced the clutch under a free factory replacement program that I didn't know about (mine was a 2013) The second clutch was much smoother and easier to modulate. The next time I buy a car I may give the auto a try and see what it's like. I should have the C7 for a while though, I have a 30 mile commute both ways every day, but there is only one traffic light and the speed limit is 70 or 75 pretty much the whole way:-)
i'm looking at manual sportscars now that i've been on a break for a few years from owning one. the reason i took a break is that i have driven a manual for so many years that i became so used to it that it was like driving an automatic. so i'm hoping that when i get a rwd manual sportscar that the same love and passion that i once had for manuals will come back.
I want a manual 350z so bad . The only problem is I live in nyc/jersey what do you guys think about that?🥲 with the traffic ect yk... help me I need advice and opinions
Stop and go traffic is not the most fun in one. If you are doing that almost everyday, I'd go with the auto simply because of shifting constantly. But if you can take back roads and avoid most of that, or you just want the manual go for it! I've been stuck in traffic before, and it can take the fun right out of it!
I'm a bit unsure about this. I've never owned an automatic but have test driven two (not Zs). I do take a lot of backroads to work and my traffic isn't too bad. When I do get stuck in traffic or if i'm tired or want to chill and can't really be bothered racing around I wish I had an automatic. That said I do like the feeling of changing gear when i'm racing and that suspense when the engine goes quiet and kicks back in on the power between changes. Can paddles be as a involving or close? I never really had the chance to get to grips with them properly and end up not knowing when the car has taken back over or what gear i'm in.
Automatics are cool and stuff for daily driven I just dont like fuckers that drive an automatic and think they're the shit on manual transmission it honestly separates the drivers from the commuters for the simple fact that with a manual you have way more control over your car and some one who knows how to drive a manual transmission will always be a better driver
It’ll Make You Cooler Say what you will, but there can be no argument on this point: If you see a sports car with an automatic transmission, you're disappointed. Perhaps even judgmental. But if the car has a manual? That's cool. Manual transmissions are cooler. Plain and simple.
mrpmj00 no if you live in LA and you have to commute to work everyday, everyday errands, and you sit in traffic because all of these south and midwestern youtubers promote LA for more people to overcrowd the state, you don't want to deal with a manual all the time. Like he said the automatics with the paddle shifters are better because you can just treat it as a manual whenever it's convenient and it has the luxury of being automated as well. Yeah teslas are cool but I get your whole it kills the experience type of perspective, it's just some people have to stop at every single stop light, drive in overcongested public roads and have to deal with annoying tailgaters who will honk literally 0.00000000001 seconds after a light turning green if you stall.
Everyone who is stuck on manual saying this and that need a auto. Drive it for a month and you will love it. You can switch it to Paddles and you have the same effect as a manual without a clutch! I love my auto and won't ever go to a stick. I know how to drive stick but I don't care what others think
Agreed, especially if it's your daily driver and you have a stressful job, nothing sucks more than stop/go gridlock of Portland Oregon now that all the unimaginative hipsters have moved here and destroyed the place. Did the stage 2 clutch/throw out bearing nightmare of a 5speed wrx for 6.5 years. No thanks. Love my 7-AT. If it's a weekend car/easy commute, I can see wanting the manual.
I have a manual g35 coupe and a auto 370z , I love them both , and I love the 370z in auto cuz I still can shift (not with the paddles tho ) and still have the feel of a manual just with out a clutch , I can make my car sound as loud as I want and still control the power so both are good especially in the 370z beautiful car and beautiful made all the way around , only down fall is the the 370z manual ( the Manual slave unit) always 110% will go out so if u get a manual , save up for new one it will go out if it hasn't before
I wasn't sure if I would want an automatic or manual cause I only drove manual a few times so I bought an old manual Jetta and its tons of fun so I know I like driving it but I was thinking about buying the 2017 Challenger and there is the option of a 8 speed automatic witch should have better mpg and shifting times witch makes the choice hard again
For a daily driver I'm glad to have my automatic. I had manual GT and sport cars all my life. Been there done that. Bumper to bumper days in a manual are over......lol
You're also forgetting auto's get hot faster so on a racetrack, you'll overheat without proper cooling mods. Whereas a manual won't have that problem. Also not everyone lives at the quarter mile. Nor do people revolve their life around the drag strip. So an automatic version of the car they want to get doesn't matter if it's only .3 seconds faster than the manual version because not many people care about drag racing. I know i don't. Currently, ALL my cars are manual. Even my daily which is a wrx. And i don't regret getting the manual version even though there was a CVT option. I went with manual. My toy is a C7Z with the 7speed and with that car, the auto IS faster. But by only .3 seconds faster in the 1/4. It also suffers from tremendous overheating problems and the shifts aren't fast at all. It is only fast during certain shifts at certain rpm's. Meaning the 2-3 shift and the 3-4 shifts are the fastest. And it can ONLY be fast when you're going WOT. If you're driving around town or even doing mildly spirited driving without redlining it, doesn't matter what gear you're in, the shifts are DOG SLOW. Everyone has their preference. Nothing is really better because both has it's ups and downs. But for me manual still until they completely remove them from the car world. And even then i'll still find an older car to keep around so i can have my manual needs.
Kevion Covington yea but it's not even a huge difference in time. And most people buying the autos are not thinking about 0-60 times, they are not buying manual due to the learning curve, the need to be more involved, maybe sharing the car and that's most average drivers
marc wrong. If you can't recognize the difference between a human manually gear selection and a computer selecting and changing gears in .01 of a second then you really don't know transmissions.
Boss Stillen I'm not hating that's just facts, what benefit is it being "fun" I think if I had an automatic lambo I would have very much fun lol doesn't need to be manual
Justin Linares Any car that is somewhat sporty with decent horsepower is very fun to drive, what makes a car fun ? the speed and acceleration and thrill, I don't need a dildo on my car to hold onto to change gears
Theedd9991 I disagree for example. Yes driving a lamborghini would be alot if fun. But I feel I would have even more fun in the lamborghini if it was a stick shift. Like the video said it's more engaging and gives you more connection to the car. I'm sure alot of people would agree with me
ralesh kumar I'm connected to the car when I'm thrown back into my seat, driving manual is counterintuitive, it's like going back to a type writer instead of a computer, it's more fun because I'm "more engaged" and have to keep pushing the paper back to type and press hard on the keys, counterintuitive like manual cars
I agree that the Auto is faster..and easier to drive in stop and go traffic. But my choice is a manual.. for many reasons.. One, if brakes go out.. you can use engine braking.. If car battery dead, can still start, giving a few friends to give you a " push ". But at the end of the day.. It is all about the choice of the buyer.. I got a 2014 Camaro RS, yes the V6, I chose it over the SS they had, because it is a 6-spd Manual..The SS was Auto.. just my choice.. Great video.. I subbed.
I own an auto 370z & driving her hard on mountain roads is so nice & so much fun, like you said the gear changes in the auto's are so fast. You do notice the auto & not having to change gears which for me gives me more confidence to drive it a bit harder.
I get less confident in an auto
that part 🫡
For a sports car I want a manual. It's about more than 0-60 times for me. It's simply more fun for me, even if they could shave a second off with an automatic.
People should get the car that resonates with them, regardless of transmission, cylinder count, make, etc. Don't be shitty about what other people want.
Yea man, I don't understand why people have to shit on other people's preferences.
Epic Milk exactly bro. I feel the same too - I prefer manual but I would never knock another car bro for their choice of an auto.
Strunz0 Cars the automatic car makes it wayyyy less intimidating. Which is gay and boring.
RX7?
When I was looking for my Z, I wanted three very specific things.
1. Hard top. Not the convertible.
2. Sports package.
3. Manual Transmission.
I thought, if I'm going to put up the money for a sports car, I better ensure that I enjoy the thing as much as I can. So, manual tranny was the way to go for me.
ArokhX yeah manual stick is the way to go for sports cars like this. This is what you use when you drive your girlfriend to a nice dinner and not for daily heavy traffic driving.
Thats pretty much how I was when picking one out. The manual really lets you experience the car.
Same with me when I bought my 2019 Z 6MT with the sports pkg.
My daily is an auto, my dream car will be a manual
Being disabled. My paddle shifted 370z is a godsend as I manipulate the gas and brake with hand controls.
Amén
I feel you on that. My knee is why I got my 7at. But it’s getting better actually not worse so I’ll be getting a manual on trade in day.
I feel ya. Broke my left leg in a skateboarding accident and could not drive for a long time unless it was an auto, and worst yet could not skate
I just bought an auto z and I have a leg injury where I can no longer rotate at the hip so it feels good seeing some good comments
That feeling when you shift up in a manual car it's indescribable
Yeah but it gets boring real fast when you live in a crowded city.
Try downshifting
@@TheFracturedfuture cap
@@thenovalabs You obviously don't live in a crowded city.
@Basketball American Are you going to pay for it? No? Then STFU.
PDK is awesome
same, i got an auto/man 350z, Baltimore streets and hills are no joke. it be nice to but that shifting shit can be obnoxious up and down hills
I thought that he would race the manual vs automatic to really show us the difference but he failed to do that.
Well when im in bumper on a manual. Radio. When im not ,radio down with instrumentals and mufflers up
Shifting without the clutch every once in a while helps in traffic if u know how to float without grinding gears
My last car was a auto and I would always have people who would try to make fun of it.
counter to what Federico said, paddles to me are not a replacement for manual, the feel is very different but some people might not care about that.
for reference, I bought my 370z without knowing how to drive a manual at all (2 hour exp max), and I've been daily driving it with no problem at all and am completely comfortable with it. so no, it's never too late to learn
cooldood84
Not too late to learn. I learned at 28.
Put the wheel in your backpack and your car will never be stolen.
unless they just pick up the whole car on a tow truck
Lucas never buy a car just use uber.. thief proof
Unless they're a professional thief. Manual transmission is more thief resistant due to the prerequisite skill required for sure
these days people don’t know how to drive them?
Well... the whole world knows how to drive them... except of one country... let‘s not talk about it...
ActionHeinz it’s almost like they’re slowly dumbing us down in America
Bought a 2015 WRX cvt 6 months ago... Just traded it out for a 2016 STI. Best decision I ever made.
"a few minutes later after scrolling down the comments..."
ok...... lots of people love both auto and manuel but i don't understand y u guys r arguing about it... like which one is better... lots of people have different needs of transmissions in a car...
It's not faster
@@chrismaga7806 more fun
I drive auto and I feel more connected than any manual. Manual is outdated bro. Old people type beat. Auto is better
Real_one9205 manual 10000% better! Automatic for people with one foot 🦶
ozzyEVLD Literally all you do is press the gas, Auto is for lazy people
Being in the autotmotive field, there's no doubt that efficiency and speed wise that the auto is superior. However, the experience of the manual is always gonna be the winner in my books. There's just no equivalent feeling to banging gears and hitting the clutch and heel toeing and whatnot, even as my daily is a manual and being in my fair share of chicago traffic I wouldn't want it any other way. I've been in higher performance auto vehicles such as a 458 (per those companies that go around to different tracks and you can drive supercars for whatever price) and not once did I think "wow this shifts so fast." Auto is the efficient way to go, manual is the fun way to go
Rex Labis You sir deserve a beer! 🍺
that’s a great way to put it at the end, efficient vs fun, i choose fun
driving an automatic sport car is like playing a video game on easy
RustedCrown11 we all like it ?
RustedCrown11 right? Zero effort and it doesn't push you to be a better driver
CroutonsRawk learning manual doesn't make you a better driver, it makes you better at a manual transmission, not speeding is what makes you a better driver
YoungRai lol got me there with that, man! Wow you showed me 😂 great job! Man fuck outta here with that middle school bullshit
YoungRai 🖕
I like auto its relaxing not having to worry about shifting
In an auto I just get really impatient with traffic but in a manual you are still driving the car at low speeds and the transmission still engages you
Bro i fell asleep driving my manual car still wonder how💀
If you look at most high end hyper cars you will see 80 percent of them only come in automatic because they are faster and the paddles allow for more speed and quicker shifts
Dodge viper acr, c7 zo6, camaro zl1.
f1 cars use sequential gear boxes not gated H style. plus that transmission is built for that purpose. cant compare a f1 car to a street car.
What are the pros and cons of each transmission for the 370Z Nismo in particular
Great comment! You are exactly right!
Only those who don't know how to drive stick would post comments like this.
mrpmj00 I daily drive a Fiesta ST. Nice job jumping to conclusions though.
CroutonsRawk 👍🏻
I live in Chicago where traffic is everywhere, manual is not meant for it so auto it is.
Trevor Phillips
exactly
same but i live in LA
Automatic is like drinking beer without the alcohol.
Cool story.
mrpmj00 nope
I have a G37s now but bought a nissan 240sx when I was 18 and it was a manual, and loved the connection I had with a manual car. My G now is my daily driver and won't trade my manual for an auto just love the feel I have with my car.
I been watching a lot of tutorials on driving a stick shift, and I still don't no what the hell to do
Hahah
Man, it’s not really even complicated
Keep it in R... It's racing mode
I drive a 2014 Q60s with a automatic transmission. I rarely use the paddle shifters because it is hard not to hit the rev limiter. I find if I leave it in sport mode it will do all the work for me including downshifts during heavy braking.
I drive a manual g37s sedan and honestly at times i wish i would of bought an automatic at times
LOL Same as you but reverse. I bought and auto and love it. But there are times where I wish it was a full stick. But that 405 in Los Angeles made my decision for me...
mitube4u haha same the 405 is a bitch!!
7 speed AT is the best of both worlds unless it's a track toy, then you need a transmission cooler from Stillen.
I'm going to get a g37s this December and honestly I prefer auto over Manuel but if I find a stick for the right price, then I'd get it.
Being that the G37 is more of luxury car it feels weird shifting all the time when all you want to do is chill and relax lol
Great video, I like how you said everthing, i made the same type of video on my channel with non nismos and had the same opinion
Yes. I have G37S. It allows you to do a quick pull, but it will automatically go back to Auto mode after the speed has adjusted.
mitube4u have you modded yet? Exhaust/intakes and all goodies?
Not yet. I was thinking about upgrading the exhaust system. But I haven't dipped my toes on the whole modes yet, well other than adding the "tail as turn"
silver moon Wait im sorey but does the GTR does have a Manual Transmission though
mitube4u bouta supercharge my g37s when I get a reliable daily
Dealing with bumper to bumper traffic almost made me regret getting a manual, but now I'm more used to it and I'm a better driver
I drive an STI daily bumper to bumper traffic. Will still pick manual every time.
same here
Dante Ryosuke yup your the man
It depends on the person.
E.L.Skatelife
true
Bro it’s such second nature it’s crazy.
Was thinking of getting an automatic but that rev matching manual looks really nice rn
It is! The manual is a lot more fun I think for the Z! I wouldn't buy the auto, some cars you just need the manual and the rev matching is cool if you are still learning to do that!
You actually did a good job explaining what ppl argue so Much about so 👍👍👍👍👍
lol thanks!
Yes, stick shift is pure enjoyment. No slushbox/DCT excuses. All you need for fun is power, 3 pedals stickshift, chasis, lightweight, and an open air top whether it's a sunroof or targa top or convertible.
It’ll Make You Cooler
Say what you will, but there can be no argument on this point: If you see a sports car with an automatic transmission, you're disappointed. Perhaps even judgmental. But if the car has a manual? That's cool.
Manual transmissions are cooler. Plain and simple.
mrpmj00 i agree. I always go and just cruise on by and peep the inside, and i am disappointed by it when it's an auto
Finally, an intelligible comparison between the two transmissions. Thank you!
Glad you liked it! Honestly both transmission have a lot to offer. I now have a GTR and have the new Z on order. DCT transmissions are great for very fast cars. But the manual in the Z will be perfect. Cars like that are most fun like that I think
6:29 he said smash the gashh😂😂😂
I've driven both (paddle)auto and manual 370z multiple times(used to work at nissan dealership) and they both are fun and i would take either of them with the slight edge going to the manual
My dream is to have two race cars Acura integra and subie wrx sti (both Manuel) work truck and a Kawasaki ninja
8:27... the guy finally says what should be said all the time by everyone: Buy the trans you want and enjoy it.
I feel like maybe another big reason lots of people are obsessed over manual especially on Japanese sport cars is just that heritage perhaps?
Please give us a drag race between the two Z's🙏🏻
When racing on windy roads or just having fun zipping through cars in the road / freeway I love having a manual .
Totally agree! Nothing like rowing through gears on some fun roads!
If you will in a populated spot than get a automatic if there’s a lot of room than get a manual
Yeah the automatic is a great choice for traffic. Manual is way more fun tho if you have less stop and go
So basically the only downside to having the automatic is that you're not obligated with the non-stop hassle of having to use a clutch because you enjoy stress and responsibility of it
jesseFNjames manuals are better around tracks and faster if you no lift shift and make more power to the wheels than automatics and if you no lift shift a manual there is no delay in power he was granny shifting the fuck out of it.
I don't care which is faster. Manual is more fun. And any car can be automatic why you wanna buy an automatic
yeah, a manual nissan micra from 2000 is so fun to drive, makes me feel super connected to the car.
I bought my 370z with an automatic because it was a good deal at the time. The 7 speed is a really good transmission but I am currently looking to purchase one with the manual. The base model does not have paddle shifters unfortunately.
I love manual but i would prefer going with automatic.
Musa pussy
Wow! That really showed him buddy! Fr tho shut the fuck up
automatic trans are for girls
@@FRKN4R nah man I’m getting manual
such an excellent, informative video..thank u for making this...this helped me immensely make up my mind..buying an automatic 370z in march
Thanks! You'll love a Z
@@BrosFOURRSpeed im sure..tryin to decide now between black or the dark grey
The interior on these z's look really really outdated
driving an automatic for like most of my life was prety cool, u could really move in sports/mode or with paddle shifters but when u hop into a manual and take that thing around for a ride it feels like a whole new car. it just feels like your drivin on a cloud once you get really good at it
Manual is for car enthusiasts
Auto is for normies
Foolish Doofus not really lmao people who own shivics that are maula arent car euthasist
what about which one is more reliable ?
I would also probably never buy an automatic cause when I'm driving home late at night with my brother's automatic there is so little to do that my mind kinda drifts off and I don't focus as much as in my manual car
Having spent 2 days test driving a 370 with an auto under higway, backroads and on mountain switchbacks, Im
still abit torn on whether I'd buy one With or go manual....
The Rex life except that modern autos will win the race, and never have to replace their clutch..good try tho
I should have the C7 for a while though, I have a 30 mile commute both ways every day, but there is only one traffic light and the speed limit is 70 or 75 pretty much the whole way:-)
unless I'm buying an exotic car, I'm going with the manual.
i'm looking at manual sportscars now that i've been on a break for a few years from owning one. the reason i took a break is that i have driven a manual for so many years that i became so used to it that it was like driving an automatic. so i'm hoping that when i get a rwd manual sportscar that the same love and passion that i once had for manuals will come back.
Bros. I have been on your channel for a while. I suggested this subject a long time ago. But you guys forgot me :(
I want a manual 350z so bad .
Exhaust note sounds way better in a stick.
Espaba pretty sure he means when shifting .. shifting sounds better in a manual for sure.. auto sounds rushed and forced
It’ll Make You Cooler
Say what you will, but there can be no argument on this point: If you see a sports car with an automatic transmission, you're disappointed. Perhaps even judgmental. But if the car has a manual? That's cool.
Manual transmissions are cooler. Plain and simple.
Can you do a vid specific only how to drive manual and how to heel toe downshift...thank
All the manual fanboys r jealous cuz they can't drive automatic 😂😂😂
Oh the irony. 😌
dirt bert Im pretty sure it’s the other way around since all you do is sit there and press the gas or break pedal. Literally no movement but that.
Clorox Bleach more like sit there and beat every manual I race
where was this filmed? It looks like an amazing place for fishing.. I would like to RUclips the bass fishing in the area.
I’d take an auto because:
-traffic
-I’m more of a cruising type of person
-VTEC kicks in faster
Qatar cars vtec? Goodbye
If you get an automatic, you don't like the driving experience. So just buy a tesla autonomous self driving car or use Uber.
mrpmj00 no if you live in LA and you have to commute to work everyday, everyday errands, and you sit in traffic because all of these south and midwestern youtubers promote LA for more people to overcrowd the state, you don't want to deal with a manual all the time.
Can you still push start a manual Z, with a weak battery?
I'm not too sure now with modern tech. But I think it's still possible
I totally agree, BUT you know how to drive stick and I don't. So you can say that, I however cannot =(
It doesnt have a same affects. Driving Stick is far more dramatic
Agree with this... and another thing: Wife. Stubborn woman wont learn (and I think cant) stick
igot themagicinm3 ok. You don't even own a Z so why are you even here haha
I have a manual g35 coupe and a auto 370z , I love them both , and I love the 370z in auto cuz I still can shift (not with the paddles tho ) and still have the feel of a manual just with out a clutch , I can make my car sound as loud as I want and still control the power so both are good especially in the 370z beautiful car and beautiful made all the way around , only down fall is the the 370z manual ( the Manual slave unit) always 110% will go out so if u get a manual , save up for new one it will go out if it hasn't before
Auto bc I can’t drive manual 😆
Which ever one works for you! They can both be fun!
Doesnt matter how advanced the auto trans is, its still not as fun or as exhiliratting as a manual. Real skills bro!
He forgot to mention that if you drive an automatic sports car you have lost your man card
Stephen Figurelli so all those people with lambos and ferraris that could buy your bitch and 10 more have lost a man card ? hmm
you'll lose your man card once I whoop your ass in my automatic
Riley Koziol well someone got their panties in a twist
Riley Koziol and I promise you wouldn't beat my car;)
Bet this guy is skinny as fuck lol
I wasn't sure if I would want an automatic or manual cause I only drove manual a few times so I bought an old manual Jetta and its tons of fun so I know I like driving it but I was thinking about buying the 2017 Challenger and there is the option of a 8 speed automatic witch should have better mpg and shifting times witch makes the choice hard again
paddle shifts are boringgggggg......stick shift is funner
For a daily driver I'm glad to have my automatic. I had manual GT and sport cars all my life. Been there done that. Bumper to bumper days in a manual are over......lol
Yeah a manual in the bumper to bumper can get annoying. At least there are some good automatics out!
manuals are only for people that have real driving skills
danky purps not really it is easy my mom drives a manual lol
MozoFozo Yup, my first car was a manual. I got it without knowing how to drive it and learned in one day. So easy.
J Pizel yeah, it's easy to learn it but it doesn't mean you're using it properly
Newer autos are faster now
Kevion Covington yea but it's not even a huge difference in time.
Manual transmission is more engaging , fun! Only those who don't know how to drive stick would post comments like this.
Sequential is the best for setting the fastest lap times around the track.
"it's fun" is not a benefit, if it's a sports car you can have fun, it'a called foot flat to the floor, auto is better without a doubt
Theedd9991 haters gonna hate bro lol
I subbed.
Great comment, thanks!
