Make sure the ratchet mechanism is completely open and locked in the open position, then just keep yanking on the strap until it loosens. If it is jammed up, you have to give it pretty hard yanks rather than a steady pull on the strap.

Once the ratchet is in the fully open position, you have to release the small lever to lock it in the open position.

@@Thehowtochannelinc yeah was trying it might need to take the rachet apart like screws on the side so the strap will come off the bolt then screw it back on I guess first time using the strap but had it for 10 years.....

You can have the ratchet mechanism open when you feed the strap through, but it is easier to do when the ratchet mechanism is closed and out of the way.

I find it easier to thread the strap when the slot is in the vertical position and the ratchet mechanism is out of the way, but there is nothing wrong with your method as long as the strap is threaded properly. Thanks for the comment.
