I love this song *so* much. It exemplifies all that was great about Nanci Griffith: beautiful melody, gorgeously observed lyric, and sung like an angel.
the "One Fair Summer Evening" album is a great representation of the range and depth of her catalogue (a live album) ..... a great voice, a great storyteller, and by all accounts that I have seen, a great person ..... RIP Nanci
Nanci was such a musical treasure. You might want to check out "It's A Hard Life Wherever You Go." Really, any of her songs are gems. We lost her too soon.
Nanci was from Seguin, Texas, which is not far from me. She died last year. My favorite song of hers is probably Lone Star State of Mind. A five and dime, or dime store, was a store like Perry's or Woolworth's, a predecessor to a dollar store like Dollar General or Dollar Tree.
I love the version of this song on her album The Dustbowl Symphony with Darius Rucker it's wonderful as is that whole album with the London Symphony Orchestra.

One of my very most favorite singers 💜💜💜
One of my favorites. Love pretty much all of her music.
If you are old enough to remember back when stores like Woolworth had lunch counters...

Her track - Once in a very blue moon - is sublime😊😊😊
Love Nanci's music. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂

Proud to make the acquaintance of a fellow Texan! Nanci was a gem for sure, one of many from the great state of Texas!
What part of Texas are y'all from? I'm in East Texas, in Lufkin.
Hill Country, Fredericksburg area.
@@cheriwilson9937 DeWitt County, on the coastal plains.
This is a wonderful song. It brought back lots of memories.
Lol! My favorite professional music man! These new folky country artists are killing it. Is there anything like this in australia?
Love this song. Nanci is the writer but I think Kathy Mattea is more known for singing this song. Both versions are great in their own way ❤
Yes, Kathy had a hit on it.

Sad that Five and Dime is now $1.00 store which lately became $1.25.
