    The Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 art and Tokina atx-i 11-20m f/2.8 are two other honorable mentions for APS-C format. Great video!

    As a new R7 user, this is very useful. As a Mac user interested in developing my interest in video making, what software would you recommend for someone reasonably confident using Apple's iMovie software but seeking more functionality, more options? Many thanks. G.

    • @ScooterMediaVideos
      @ScooterMediaVideos  10 месяцев назад

      Hello, there are really 3 options to look at for software...Final Cut Pro is a Mac only video editing software that is great and you pay a one time fee of $300-400. Adobe Premiere Pro is what I use and is available for Mac and PC but you pay a monthly subscription to use it, so it is much more expensive. My final suggestion is DaVinci Resolve and this one you can download for free and use right away and if you like it, then you can get the full studio version for $300-400. I believe Final Cut and Premiere Pro have trial versions that you can download and try before actually buying anything, so maybe try them all out and see which you prefer.

    I would also include the amazing Canon EF-S 17-55 2.8 but ok. And probably avoid the 50mm 1.8s, i only enjoyed my 50mm 1.4 on full frame or older APS-C. The Crop is pretty problematic as a "normal" focal length, but its true on full frame the 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 is great
    The 17-55 became my goto lens on the R7 and give me even better low light performance than a 24-105mm F4 on entry level full frame (EOS RP)
    Btw i am not wondering there is nothing more in RF-S, thats basically canons strategy since ever, i guess a RF-S version of the 17-55 2.8 will NEVER come.

      Yes, I agree the Canon EF-S 17-55 2.8 is amazing, I just don't own that one! Hopefully some new RF-S glass soon.

      Also, some words about the RF-S 18-150.
      I bought my R7 at vacation for a good price so the Kit version with the 18-150 was the way to go (and sell the lens at home)
      I had nearly a week with the R7 and 18-150 and yeah, its GREAT (for vacation at least), no more lenses with you than the 18-150 and a pretty capable allround/hybrid body in a small form factor and light.
      But as soon i got home... the 18-150 was instantly replaced by my good old full frame Canon EF 28-135 IS USM, better bokeh/bigger aperture, at least as sharp as the RF-S, just worse stabilizer but i dont do too much video with it anyways (just a cheap universal lens).
      Its basically a "better" kit lens in terms of zoom range and is also pretty macro capable but nothing to go with for a longer time. You need/want it anyways so you get the R7 Kit or you dont need it and you can forget about it.
      But in the future.... if 2nd hand prices are like 80$ for the RF-S 18-150, i would probably get one again as oversized "lens cap"/always on lens again. I really love the fact that with RF lenses, the camera closes the aperture at Off position so you dont have to worry much about not using the lens cap at all when sun is shining (and R10/R7 have a PLASTIC shutter.... you dont want to burn thru)

      @@ScooterMediaVideos Yeah, we Canon APS-C/RF-S Mirrorless users all hope for good glass.

    Thank you for the video! I added almost all of these to my "wish list" 😅
    If I am not using my R7 for video and only photos, would you still recommend the Sigma 18-35 with the Canon EF-EOS R Adapter with ND Filter?

    • @ScooterMediaVideos
      @ScooterMediaVideos  Год назад

      I guess it depends on what you are photographing. You probably don't need the adapter with the ND Filter as much for photos, but will need the regular adapter to mount any EF or EF-S lenses. The Sigma 18-35 is a great lens with shallow depth of field, great low light performance, etc, but it is heavy and doesn't have a very long focal range. Do you already own any lenses for the R7?

    • @ScooterMediaVideos
      @ScooterMediaVideos  Год назад

      If you own the Sigma 18-35mm, I wouldn't buy the 30mm f/1.4 as you already have a 30mm f/1.8 built into the zoom lens. I bought the 30mm first and got a really good deal on it but don't use it very often anymore.

    Just picked up an R10 but Im using the RF 35 1.8 and RF 50 1.8 on mine. I hate APS-C lenses as they are usually poor quality optics and slow. Id prefer RF lenses over any of these options here to be honest. I also enjoy the focal length advantage. I prefer shooting my portraits at 85mm. Rather than having to pay $600 for an RF 85 f/2, the 50 f/1.8 becomes an 81mm on the R10 and it only cost me $169. Thats a win.

    I'm considering the Canon RF 100-400 mm lens for the Canon R10. Will this connection work well? what are the disadvantages of such a combination?

    • @ScooterMediaVideos
      @ScooterMediaVideos  8 месяцев назад +1

      This combination will work well, the only thing to be aware of is that the R10 is not a full-frame camera and the RF 100-400 is a full-frame lens…therefore you will get a focal range closer to 160-640mm…which is great if you want a little extra zoom.

    I agree with sigma EF 30mm and EF-S 18-35mm lenses but i would add any 70-200mm lens with imagestabliation for sport and wildlife photography. I have used macro lenses because of R7 built in focus bracketing. It really nice to take stacked macrophotos with built in camera tool. Had EF 100mm f2.8 L ISM USM but now i have RF version.
    Why all videos are forgetting that R7 has built in Focus bracketing when recommending lenses...

      Yes I agree, however I don't own the 70-200 or the 100mm so I just based the video around lenses that I own and have used. Would I be able to film Talking head videos such as this one with the R7 kit lens or would I need the rf adapter and a wider lens. 2. Do you mind doing a home podcast set up tutorial with 1 or 2 camera angles (similar to the set up you had on episode 1) Also more premiere pro tips and canon r7 filming tips would be great! Sorry sir, great video, but you do need to correct the video a bit. Sigma 30 mm DC HSM Art when paired with r10 via adapter is very bad at sharpness and can not really autofocus on faces all that well (for uknown reason). Sigma 18-35 on the other hand is just great, had it loved it, but its too heavy. I am going to try 24mm RF lens, hopefully that one will make me happy for my still videos

      I haven't really experienced any issues between the two however I very rarely use the IBIS. I only use the R7 for video and the only time I use the IBIS is the odd time that I am vlogging...and to be honest the Sigma 18-35mm isn't the greatest for vlogging as it is very heavy and it's not really wide enough at 18mm. However, using the Sigma 18-35mm in conjunction with the IBIS for hand-held shots works great.

      There are plenty of great RF lenses. APS-C lenses are mostly junk. Most all the zooms are slow kit lenses basically with inferior optics, and the few primes are decent at best.
