It is a solid lens to start out with 👍🏻 you are going to be frustrated at some point when your skills improve and hunger for certain types of shots increase. Next step that I’d recommend is getting the RF 50mm f/1.8 :)
I personally went for the 18-150 for general daylight photos, the nifty-fifty 50mm f1.8, and might go for the 35mm f1.8. One thing that annoys me about the 18-150 is that it doesn't have a fixed f3.5 on all focal lengths. A 24-70mm f2.8 is at nearly 3000 USD here in Norway. I hope Sigma comes up with some decent optics at a lower price.
That was the reason I switched to Sony. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 ART. A beast of a lens. I used it 90% of the time we went to Norway just few weeks ago. I feel so bad that Canon is preventing 3rd party manufacturers from making RF lenses.
@timovehkaoja Yes, that does factor. I recently acquired the 14-35 F4 IS and so far this replaced the 17-70. It's not a 2.8 but I like the extra wide end and the constant F4. Would have gotten the 15-35 but it's just too big and heavy, negates having the R50.
If you want more reach Canon's RF 100-400 on the R7 is incredibly sharp, and has a minimum focus distance of 1 meter. It's basically an insanely awesome macro for dragonflies, bugs, flowers, etc. No other zoom has such a close focus distance for any brand or competitor. It's a unicorn. And it's half the price of anything that even comes near!
Nice! Just got the R7. My trinity is going to be the Sigma 16, 30 and 56 1.4 trio. I currently have the Sigma 18-50 2.8 for the RF mount but have the 30 on the way. Will probably sell the zoom once I get the primes.
Those new RF-S Sigmas hit the sweet spot which Canon failed to fill 👍🏻 I am sure you will love them, but keep the 18-50mm as a one and done everyday lens. You’re gonna miss one if you lose it 😄
@ thanks, I might but I shoot portraits professionally and the primes are sharper and faster, also better for video IMO. I’ll hang onto it for a bit though.
All great recommendations, but as contrasted to my R kit, which is the $ you speak of, I'm hoping to create an R7 that is more "grab and go", and lighter on my hiking pack in my 7th decade. So, I have Canon's RF 18-150mm (Lots of compromises, of course, but the performance is okay with good results on a hiking trail.) and the RF 35mm F1.8. I'm waiting for an RF-S 11-22mm that will replace my EF-M 11-22mm, or another smaller option. The lack of wider angle is killing me in 2023!
Those are solid choices, but the RF-S 11-22 is going to be ridiculously dark 😞 I was kinda hoping they’d pull a rabbit out of their hat and made it f/2.8.
@@timovehkaoja True. I would LOVE to have some quality RF-S glass from my R7. But meanwhile, I do need smaller form factor for the hiking trails. I always had good results with my M5.

I might have figured this one out. The IS of the lens does not pair up with IBIS of the R7. I experienced the same when I tested this combination, and turning the IBIS off made a huge difference 👍🏻
Thanks for another awesome video. I wonder how you achieve this FF-like look on your talking head shots. On another note, have you tested Sigma's 24-70 FF lens with Canon's speed booster, and do you think that would work out?

@@timovehkaoja Although my main channel is not for tech, you are one of the creators that inspired me the most currently. You'll crush it have no doubts.
Yes it is. But the weight is also better 😄 and 82mm filter thread makes it a bit hard, as all of the others take 77mm filters (18-35mm with a step up). And the 50-150mm has that 50mm extra on the focal lenght AND it has a stabilizer. Optically they are REALLY close to one another.
Have you had no issues with the autofocus with that lens on your R7? I've been hearing that kind of issues with the Sigma lenses on the EOS R7. So I'm a bit torn between choosing that lens or safe up for a 70-200mm (even though it's on a APS-C sensor) and the 50-150mm Sigma one. Do you know if the Sigma lens is good for dog photography (mainly portraits, but some action as well)?

Atleast the 28mm is light 👍🏻 i have no experience with the quality of the lens, but the focal lenght around 24-28mm is good for all around video 👍🏻
Thanks for the respond@@timovehkaoja
@@FakhruddinIsmail No worries :) if you got any questions, just ask, happy to help 👍🏻
Timooooo I have a question. With my R7 paired with a Tokina 11-20 f2.8 CF atx-i (img stab) I am getting WILD jello and distortion in my video on the R7. Im also using a Meike RF adaptor for the lens.
Have you heard of this happening on the R7? wut must i do? Thanks!
Hi! I have not tested that combo yet, so I have no clue. Can you send me an example video?
I might have figured this one out. The IS of the lens does not pair up with IBIS of the R7. I experienced the same when I tested this combination, and turning the IBIS off made a huge difference 👍🏻
the Tokina ATX-I 11-16mm F/2.8 is pretty good too! Not that expensive as well
It is good but fail to work properly with IBIS for video 😕
Thanks for another awesome video. I wonder how you achieve this FF-like look on your talking head shots. On another note, have you tested Sigma's 24-70 FF lens with Canon's speed booster, and do you think that would work out?
Thanks for dropping by again! The secret is depth :) Lots of space behind me and the background.
And no, I have not tested it, but now that you pointed it out, you got me curious! I may have to look into it at some point 👍🏻
@@timovehkaoja Thanks!
@@timovehkaoja It would be interesting to know if it can be used with Canon's speed booster, giving only 1.1 times the crop.
@@potbtech I’ll try to get them into my hands and make a video about ’em if I do 👍🏻 Thanks for the idea!

Hey bro!
What is the weight of canon r7 with sigma 18-35 1.8??
Around 1.4 kilograms (3lbs).
Isn't the Sigma 50-100mm better than the Sigma 50-150mm?
Yes it is. But the weight is also better 😄 and 82mm filter thread makes it a bit hard, as all of the others take 77mm filters (18-35mm with a step up). And the 50-150mm has that 50mm extra on the focal lenght AND it has a stabilizer. Optically they are REALLY close to one another.
sigma 50-150mm is sharper than sigma 50-100mm in all aperture,I tested them a few months ago.
None whatsoever :)
Where could i buy the the sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 ex os
It is a very rare lens, I spent a good while looking for it myself. If you can’t find one, the Sigma 50-100mm is also a magnificent lens 👍🏻
How is the autofocus with the sigma 18-35?
@@kevinpascale6908 Silent and spot on. I have a video on my channel about the AF noise 👍🏻
Has anyone tried the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art on the R7?
I have 👍🏻 absolutely fantastic!
How are you dealing with, or experiencing the ibis /autofocus problems that seem to be plaguing the user experience with non canon rf lenses? I have a brand new R7 as a xmas gift and need a lens for both action photography and street photography that isn’t the same price as my mortgage!
IBIS or AF have not been an issue with any of the lenses I have used 👍🏻 my ultimate recommendation for the first all around lens is the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 ART (link below). When you update the firmware of the lens, IBIS works just like in any RF lens 👍🏻 intructions to update the firmware can also be found on my channel!

Flawless, atleast with my use 👍🏻 and both for video and photo.

@@pauledaneskamauclair5840 Hi! You need to buy the EF-RF adapter to use EF lenses on the R7 👍🏻

Sorry if I'm becoming annoying, I contacted canon and asked them about the IBIS and if it works with the sigma 16-35 1.8 art and they said ibis on the r7 will not work at all with this lens...
Well, you can check from my videos how well it works, I did a comparison video before and after firmware update.
And it’s 18-35mm btw.
@@timovehkaoja I'm still contemplating which to get, R7 or Fuji XH2, still leaning towards the r7, have been looking at images of the sigma 18-35 on Flickr and damn!!! talk about sharpness, and throughout the whole focal length it seems too, it's a beast!
@@NathanHassani-kr4bh It is a beast 👍🏻 The best lens I had in my entire life before getting the Sigma 24-70mm ART for A7IV. I’d say go with the R7, as it is now getting a whole new lineup of them Sigma lenses also 👍🏻
will probably get the r7, superior auto focus, fuji has the better build quality but that's it, do you not find the weight of the sigma too much though?
@@NathanHassani-kr4bh That is true, the AF of Canon beats Fuji hands down. I never had any issues with the weight, and I took it everywhere. It is a bit heavy side when compared to some others, but the quality of the photos and videos with the R7 makes it worth it.
Hey, a shop told me that if i used an ef lens on my r7 with an adapter ring, the auto-focus won’t be performant, don’t you have trouble with this setup ?
Never had any issues with AF using EF-lenses. And yes, I work at a camera store myself too. :)
@@timovehkaoja Thank's !!!!! :)
@@jeancharlestanton5829 my pleasure :)
What do you think about replacing the last one with Sigma 50-100mm? Not enough zoom?
I had that too for a while, the lens is absolutely fantastic and if 100mm is enough, then you’ll be fine 👍🏻 the 50-150mm is closer to the 70-200mm lens on fullframe, so that is why I opted for that :)
@@timovehkaojaand what about Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP AF IF DI? It doesn't have stabilization, but should it really matter if R7 has IBIS?
@@tender.branson Actually I tested one just today and it seemed REALLY solid for the second hand price! But then I am worried about the cap between 35-70, kinda leaves blank the sweet spot of 50mm.
Hello, quick question, do I need a adapter for sigma lenses?
Yes you do, for all EF lenses 👍🏻
Hey Timo, I currently only have RF lenses for my R7. I'm curious, does using the EF adapter affect the sharpness or focus of my photos/videos in any negative way?
No, the EF-RF adapter does not affect the sharpness or focus any way :)
I like the RF-S 18-150, the new RF-S 10-18 and the RF 24 1.8 Makro on my R7. Light weight combo that easily fits into a smallish Camera Bag.
The only downside is the 18-150mm being sooo slow after 50mm 😞
I bought the Sigma 24-70 mm f2.8 with meike adapter for my canon R7 and am not sure if I do a good choice. I still have one week to return it back to the store to refund. What advice can you give me ? should I keep the lens or replace it with anoter one ?
What would you replace it with? The Sigma 24-70mm for EF mount is a solid lens as an all around lens.
@@timovehkaoja with 18-35 mm f1.8 like you suggested
@@ahmedsouissi8774 What do you mostly shoot with your camera? The 18-35mm offers you a bit wider image, but it is still a solid lens for portrait work also. 24-70mm is a good all arounder, and it has got the 50-70mm which is most used for portraits.
Do you need an adapter to fit a sigma lens to the R7?
Yes, as stated in the video. They are all EF-mount lenses, so you do need the adapter to use them.
That’s great thank you 👍🏻
I’m currently using a canon 800d with a sigma 30mm 1.4 art lens, if I purchase the adapter for the r7 could I use this lens on the r7?
