Just watched your video, I'm getting reaedy to r&r an engine in my sprinter. Would it be easier to unbolt the torque converter from underneath the van or on the ground?
Yes, eventually I caved-in and used the destructive puller that screws into the disassembled injector top and levers against the valve cover where it is supported and won't break.
After it runs a bit you say "it's found it's sweet spot" are you referring to ECM detecting the right injector setting ? I've heard injectors need to be matched or something to that effect ...
The OM647 engine likes the injectors coded to the ECM. These older OM612's don't have that option and I'm not sure what changed. I suspect it was a blocked sensor in the boost pressure or the EGR came un-stuck.
So @@FloridaVanMan I guess if you don't code new injectors on a OM647 it'll run just not optimal, you would need a Chrysler DRBIII or DAD to program the code or does Autel or some other scan tool now allow performing this task that you know of ? ...
@@boppin_bennie Correct, without coding OM647 injectors it will run but not optimal. I wouldn't think this is usually dangerous, but if you change your oil regularly and try to take care of the engine, it is silly to neglect tuning the heart-valves as they were designed. DAS xEntry is what we use, DAD is s "popular shipper's (that shall not be named)" lite* version of the Carsoft I had, and may or may not code injectors properly. I don't know anything about cars. I think some do use the OM647 engine which would be a 1:1 swap with our 2004-2006 Sprinters. The older Sprinters have OM612 engines and I don't know if any cars use that.
What is the best thing to spray on the glow plugs before i try to remove them because I know it is a pain in the rear to remove them? Thanks in advance 🙏
We are working on a Glow Plug video today. We have been soaking them with PB Blaster every day for a week, driving the van daily to get hot, getting ready to remove them.
@@gregboyd4321 Yes. Injectors get soaking prior to extraction. PB-Blaster was my go-to. Recently I've been using oven cleaner with more success. But next will be acetone and transmission fluid.
I had good luck with the PB blaster too. The factory plugs must have been torqued exact.. they came right out no problem. Getting the connector off was harder than the plug.. Just blow the cavity out good before you remove the glow plug. A lot of crud builds up down there.
just wondering is anyone with a T1N pulling their injectors every 100 K miles to replace seals or gambling ? if they are pulling them are they taking them to be tested before reinstall ? thanks bill
I suggest testing injectors any time you have them out of the van. But I don't suggest pulling them out for preventative maintenance, testing or re-sealing. If they don't have any symptoms or problems, don't cause any! Removing them preemptively is no easier than removing them when necessary.
I feel like the video needed some narration. What's the story? You rebuilt a engine or it's just a swap? I'm assuming you got injector 4 out? You guys are knowledgeable about T1N's which is great but the videos could really use a bit more love in the editing and narration or lack there of.
I agree it definitely did. This project however was somehow 250gb in size. By the time it was to this point, it was almost impossible to add anything else to it. Not sure how that happened this time but... Backstory: The 2 Blue bedliner van was originally purchased as the smoking van Nero. After months of diagnosis and unsuccessful attemps to repair it, we just decided to take our chances on this junkyard. We gave it a careful inspection and quickly learned the story of how it got there: Recent work on all 5 injectors. None of them had proper bolts installed, they were too short by at least 3/4”. Injector 1 tried to go into orbit but was stopped by the plastic engine cover. When that happened, previous owner said “fuck it” and had the whole van towed to the junkyard. One man’s trash was our treasure!
I agree, and thank you for being kind with the advice. This one was exceptionally challenging to edit because of mistakes made during the recording. The files were so large, and videos so long... it crashed my computer with an over-full hard drive (half a terabyte!!!). The final edit doesn't tell the whole scoop, so only those who follow FloridaVanMan will get the full story. Injector #4 still has not come out. I love when your engine drops. 😂lol. I can't get enough. Lol.
I saw a YT video of a guy using bottle Jacks and some metal plates and takes stuck injectors out easily. He also had to grind up the claw puller.
So if a T1N owner wanted to get an engine rebuild done, how might he contact you to ask your shop location? 👀

I don't think there is any way to access the oil pump with the engine assembled. I wouldn't know how to do that.
