Monster is actually the last song of act1 (first half of the play) so, if you liked it, i would recomend to check the rest of the songs in order, they're as good as this one!👍🏼
so It actually isn't a musical YET. it''s a concept album for a musical written by jorge. Hopefully when the entire concept albums are finished it can be staged and actually made into a real musical. Until then I'd recommend listening to Ruthless from the same musical. It's my personal favorite
Oof, if you enjoyed Monster you are in For a Ride if you listen to the Full Musical. This Song is literally the last one realese and from Act 1. Based on what you say you may actually enjoy it, basically all songs can be listened to in day to day bases. They are really good and Jorge is simply talented. Also, the song is not about today, he has being working on the Musical for YEARS now and had the Track List since he started doing auditions and stuff. BUT EPIC is based on the Oddysie right After the Troyan War, and War is War doesn't matter the time periods, that's why it can work for today's situation. The Musical Goes: 1. Troy Saga: - Horse and the Infant - Just a Man - Full Speed Ahead - Open Arms - Warrior of the Mind 2. Cyclopse Saga: - Polyphemus - Survive - Remember Them - My Goodbye 3. Ocean Saga: - Storm - Luck Runs Out - Keep Your Friend Close - Ruthlesness 4. Circe Saga: - Pupeteer - Wouldn't You Like - Done For - There are Other Ways 5. Underworld Saga: - Underworld - No Longer You - Monster
Yeah! It was a good choice to replace this song with that one. The deep meaning behind the "Rawr rawr rawr"s was so intense that it just had to be the finale of Act 1! And the insane lyrical scheme was just so profoud that it brought me to tears! 😂😂😂
I HIGHLY recommend this musical, even to people who typically don’t like them. Each song is so deep, makes you think and is so emotional. This is a work of art
The "protecting her nymphs" i believe isn't simply to protect them from murder, but also from assault, because nymphs in greek mythology are typically exceptionally beautiful and prone to attracting male attention, whether they like it or not. It's also heavily implied as such in the songs of the Circe saga when Circe talks about why she does what she does, as well as the deal she proposes to Odysseus.
EPIC is definitely a one of a kind musical. I’m usually not a fan of pop song musicals because I feel like you lose the story but Jorge writes modern composition with amazing storytelling. You literally can know what is happening and how each character feels in every moment without visuals even! It’s amazing
I enjoyed your commentary on the philosophy of this song!! This is the last song of Act 1 which has a central theme of "When does a man become a monster?" (a question raised in the second song of the act, Just A Man!) Its based on the Odyssey which starts at the end of the Trojan War and is their journey back home to Ithaca
With the things you bring up, I can only believe that you would really love the entirety of the rest of the concept album. If you're scared of a "too-musical" sound, I can reveal that the main character is almost always backed by a guitar, meaning there are a ton of electric guitar riffs. The production quality stays at this level for essentially the entire album. Do say if you want more info on the album before you listen to more. People are super willing to give the info, but I felt it wouldn't be right to just info-dump you all of it without asking :)
While I slept, people have already filled in a lot of info. I recommend listening in order, and Starrynight7723 has given a great list of animatics that serve as visuals alongside the songs. All the songs can of course be listened to without animatics, but the fan community have added SO MUCH with the visuals of those animatics.
PLEASE react to all the songs in order. It goes Troy saga, cyclops saga, ocean saga, Circe saga, and underworld saga. There are five songs in the first saga, four songs in the next three sagas, and three songs in the last saga. All in all it's one hour and eight minutes of pure emotional torture if you listen to them in order

welcome to the Epic club of Winions (you will learn later). I highly recommend reacting in the order like other comments mentioned. Also, there are a TON of amazing animatics made by fans that give you a nice visual to go along with the music. The whole thing is truly... EPIC!
I really like your take on this. I love this musical so I've been thinking of the songs more so in the context of the story. The way you broke it down with philosophy and the modern world was really interesting. While the themes stay the same, I really enjoyed the recontextualization.
The full musical isnt out yet but the first half is. There are animatics though that fan artists have created to give visuals to the songs if you want to watch those. Highly recommend it.
Epic the Musical isn't a show (yet) it is a bunch of concept albums based on the Odyssey. the writer Jorge is releasing the albums as sagas, the underworld saga is the most recent. I highly suggest checking out the rest of them they are so well made and there hasn't been one I don't like so far.
So Epic the musical was made by Jorge Rivera Herrans, pretty much all the lyrics, music, and direction came from him. He also plays the lead in the musical/whose singing this. They release in chunks called Sagas, there has 5 sagas releases so far and 4 more to go. Essentially all the songs have been teased and shown so much BTS on Jorge’s social media along with how the music is arranged as well as all the technical detail in the music and characterization I really highly suggest reacting using animatics since there’s so much little detail that Jorge talked about that happens during the songs that can’t really be shown or properly understood in the music format without background knowledge that the animators capture really well
Please do react to the songs in order, the story is based on the Odyssey, and despite some of the differences from the source material, the differences make sense in the storyline. As Jay/Jorge (the writer) has explained, where the source material does not ponder the morality of war, this musical does that and revolves around the idea of how ruthless are you willing to be to protect the people that are important to you.
This is the last song of the 1st act. So far that's all that has been released so far, although he has written more. There are various animatics that help. It's a fully sung musical so no talking between. Well worth reacting to. This is going to be bigger then Hamilton.
How innocent he is, he thinks that that lyric is referring to two people trying to kill the nymphs. Clearly, he needs to read Greek mythology, and then he'd know that it was something much worse
It is an amazing musical. A lot of comments have already referenced the context of the song, but you are still missing a lot of the references to the other songs in this song that makes "Monster" hit so hard. Every line is a callback to earlier in the musical and it makes this song go so much harder. I cannot recommend reacting to the other songs more, and watching the fan-made animatics also as those would bring so much more context if you are unfamiliar with the original story.
I’m so glad someone else is reacting to Epic!! It’s just a concept musical for now but it's still absolutely fantastic and deserves to be appreciated, plus your reaction was great! If you want to continue checking this out, here are the songs of each saga in order together with some of the best animatics I could find, for your convenience (checking the songs out with visuals helps a lot to absorb the emotions imo so I'd really recommend it)😊 Troy Saga: 1) The Horse and The Infant animatic gigi 2) Just A Man animatic gigi 3) Full Speed Ahead animatic WolfyTheWitch 4) Open Arms animatic mircsy 5) Warrior of the Mind animatic mircsy Cyclops Saga: 6) Polyphemus animatic mircsy 7) Survive animatic mircsy 8) Remember Them animatic WolfyTheWitch 9) My Goodbye animatic WolfyTheWitch Ocean Saga: 10) Storm animatic Ximena Natzel 11) Luck Runs Out animatic Lampyrcy 12) Keep Your Friends Close animatic gigi 13) Ruthlessness animatic Anniflamma Circe Saga: 14) Puppeteer animatic gigi 15) Wouldn't You Like animatic Ximena Natzel 16) Done For animatic Gwendy 17) There Are Other Ways animatic Crashite Underworld Saga: 18) The Underworld animatic ShiQing47 19) No Longer You animatic Ximena Natzel 20) Monster animatic Lampyrcy

Joel Miller from TLOU is an embodiment of the idea of ‘ruthlessness is mercy to ourselves’ and ‘becoming the monster’ to protect those you care about. *spoiler* He kills Marlene because he knows she would just keep sending people to hunt down him and Ellie. Too bad for him and Ellie, he was too preoccupied with getting Ellie out of there to finish wiping out all the fireflies, enabling a certain someone to escape and seek revenge.
maybe unpopular opinion, i like it when ppl react to my favorite things (in this case Epic) out of order. spoilers are spoilers, yes, but also it's fun for me to see how much meaning people can pull and extrapolate out of these songs out of context. some reactors know greek mythology and are able to identify what story it is, others do a purely blind reaction, and it's always a new way to look at a thing i like so much. may i ask, why this song specifically?
It'd be amazing to see you watch these in order! Epic is genuinely one of the most moving musicals for me with just how it's written and produced, theres so many little details and the lyrics are actually phenomenal! If you plan on listening to these in order i suggest watching the fan-made animatics since the entire community is very close-knit when it comes to how people portray the main characters (and also theres stuff that happens musically that is hard to perceive by just listening, my first listen to this was confusing since there were a couple things i missed)
