    Hi Tina, lovely clear tutorial as always. I think that the pattern shows off the delicacy of Ellie’s yarn beautifully; I’m sure that your Mum will love it (and her card and books as well, of course!).
    I hope that this won’t offend you (and apologies if I’ve got this wrong) but I’m reasonably sure that this is the old shale pattern - as far as I am aware the feather and fan pattern is a 2 round repeat over 14 stitches (round 1 - K4tog, (YO, K1) x 5, YO, K4togtbl, P1 as many times as needed; round 2 - K13, P1 for the entire round). Both patterns have similarities in that they have decreases and YO increases but they produce a different effect - if you fancy socks in either pattern, Amanda from Shuttermonkey Designs has free patterns for both on Ravelry. Personally I prefer old shale and have made a pair of socks using Drops Nord in that pattern. Cheers, J x
    PS: I went to Aldi this morning and it was a close run thing but I managed to take the yarn out of my trolley, put it back where it belonged and walk away!!

    • @Simplyinstitches
      @Simplyinstitches  3 года назад

      Ha ha well done for rescuing the yarn from your trolley. I thought it was too simple for feather and fan but that is what it was called in the stitch book so I thought it must be . I shouldn't believe everything I read in books x

    Edit: thank you again for this beautiful pattern. I was only able to do 2 repeats of the pattern (because I was messing up) then added a row of eyelets (using your method) then more stockinette and binded off purl wise. I started with 85 stitches using shawl in a ball metallic yarn... Anyhow, the metallic strip+being a newbie is what messed me up a little.. I'm 58 and brand new to knitting... I kept it as is because it's still wearable and a learning experience ..... If it were crochet I'd have frogged it and redone it but the knitting to so long couldn't bring myself to rip it out 😊 I want to try again with regular yarn. Thanks again for the pattern. Thank you for the pattern and tutorial. Stitch multiple of 17, correct? (I only have heavier yarn and will have to do less stitches)

    Made the cowl, had some problems, the fans had a very open look. I tried to keep it tight, but that just didn't help either as it just kinked everything up. Washed it and blocked it after finishing and still was a bit tight on the fan areas.

    Just started this beautiful cowl and I have a question. When you say rpt lace pattern 8 times does that mean I’m actually doing it 9 times if you know what I mean? Doing it as read and then repeating 8 times or just 8 times in all? I know it probably is a silly question but I’m quite a novice with patterns. Lol 😀. I absolutely love your channel Tina, you explain things so well thankyou and take care x

    Hi there! Just wondering what happened to your previous podcast posts? I miss them. They were fun to watch and I always enjoyed seeing your new projects. Hope things are going well for you. I did remember watching your last video that said you were going to be taking a break from RUclips, however I didn’t realize that you were going to be taking down your vlog videos and only leaving the tutorials. Take care and look forward to seeing new videos from you, if and when you return to RUclips! 😊

      @Simplyinstitches  3 года назад +3

      Hi, thank you for thinking of me. Yes I did come back and make another video a month after my break . I have decided not to make update videos. This is mainly for 2 reasons . Time - work and parents need my support . Minimalist- I'm a one project crafter now it feels better for me. I really haven't got things to talk about. Every vlogger with tell you of the self imposed pressure to do more . I would like to contribute to the community by updating my tutorials because I know they have helped so many people. I'm sure I can do them far better now and in my own timeframe, no pressure. Take care and thank you for your support. There are lots of amazing RUclips crafters to discover , have fun x

I learned to knit a long time ago when I was a kid and could only make a basic scarf. It has been fun trying to knit other projects now. Thank you again. You will be greatly missed. Stay well. 🌸💕

    That is so pretty! My needles are ready, but I couldn't find the right yarn, so my local yarn shop is ordering a wool/alpaca/cashmere base and we're going to try and dye it ourselves - woo! thank you so much for the pattern! One quick question. It looks like you did a yo ssk 1 time, and then two ssk without the yarn over? Is that right? I'm still so new to knitting that it might be what the pattern says and I'm just not comprehending it. I shall do it as you did in the video, just to be on the safe side. Hi Tina.
    Just wondering what needles do you use for your knitting of normal straight knitting. i.e Jumpers. Do you use interchangeable needles? If so which brand? I have seen the Knit Pro ones which I like. Can you use interchangeable needles for general knitting or are they just for circular items. I am old school and knit with normal straight needles or a circular or dpn needles. I wanted to upgrade my knitting needles to interchangeable ones as they come in nicer colours and have nice pointed tips. My needles are 48 years old so need upgrading really.

    • @Simplyinstitches
      @Simplyinstitches  3 года назад +1

      Hi Tracy, sorry I'm the wrong person to ask . I was sent some interchangeable to try but I prefer fixed . I try not to have lots of projects on the go at the same time and I don't find I need them . I buy what I need when I need it . A lot of people say they have never used half of there set . I would recommend thinking of what you use before buying to make sure they are the size and lengths that are right for you . You can use circulars for anything . I hope this helps x

I use a 9” fixed circular for my socks and i’m wondering if a needle just 3” bigger can hold 153 stitches? Sorry if I sound like a simpleton but just want to clarify 😊.
