My Aunt taught me a trick. You buy a clear shower curtain and rod and hang it on the inside of the shower door. When your done showering throw back and you really don’t know it is there. When it gets dirty throw it away and buy another $5 one and your doors always look like new. 16 years and my daughter using oils and teenage nasties and they look like the day I installed them.

Hi Renee, in the U.K we call your soap pad’s, Brillo pad’s. I use them on stainless steel, our bbq grill, oven racks.

Renee...great and funny video. I knew about this cleaning hack..I too am a chemical junkie and one day out of desperation tried the Brillo pads in my shower. They work fantastic. My mom always had Brillo pads to clean stuff in the kitchen and the inside of the oven and oven window. I'm such a cleaning nerd, that I use a pocket knife to carefully scrape gunk along the bottom edge of the shower door...where you pointing out the gunk in your video. I've heard of women using oven cleaner in the shower...not sure I'd go that far!!! Not shower related, but my husband uses a very fine steel wool (0000) to clean bug guts from the truck windshield. Boy, that really works great. Keep the videos coming!

Hey Renee, try blue Dawn dish detergent, white vinegar, and water in a spray bottle. It won't scratch and easily dissolves scam. No harmful chemicals and inexpensive. Shake the bottle to mix, rub with the rough side of a non scratch sponge and squeegee off. It's really great!

I got so tired of trying to get rid of the soap scum in my show but when I saw the soap scum take over the newly remodeled shower that I had hired professionals to do 1.5 years ago for my parent's shower doors, I needed a solution, quick! Your suggestion worked! Thank you so much! Your honest opinion on the products that didn't work were spot on, too! My aging parents are so happy with their clean shower doors that they can see through again! Who knew that I'd stumble across your video when I did? We don’t have shower doors in our new home but I never would have tried steel wool as I would have assumed it would have scratched up the glass! Surprised it didn’t!
Actually for our glass top stove when they get grungy and the magic eraser won’t lift it, I have used a razor blade (gently!) and it lifts everything up! But that would be tedious on the surface of a shower door :)
I hate cleaning my tub surround and have tried the daily shower and they never seem to work well- I got this cleaner , the new spritzer by Mr Clean and use that every time I take a shower. It’s been 19 months and my shower still looks fresh as a daisy!

I was surprised the steel wool pads didn't scratch the glass, even just a little. I know you said you used them "lightly", but wow, I still would think that they would've scratched. I'll have to test that out and take a good close look. I've seen people on RUclips suggest vinegar and baking soda (not together), but I don't believe it works that well. I have tried the baking soda to clean my oven and that worked fairly well. But I've just learned something new. Just keep a light hand and hopefully over time you still won't see any dulling of the glass due to the abrasiveness. Keep us posted. XOXO

Be careful with Mean Green though. My shower is all white tile, floor to ceiling. I had a cleaning lady once that asked me to get Mean Green for her to use in the bathroom. After a few weeks I began noticing the grout was disappearing between the tile. I finally figured out the Mean Green was destroying my grout. You could see the cracks between the tile because there was no longer any grout. I asked my cleaning lady to stop using it, but I could tell she hadn't stopped as it was getting worse each time she cleaned. I finally threw the stuff away so I knew she wouldn't use it anymore. It may work great on fiberglass showers, but I don't recommend it on tile surfaces.

Oh what a great idea! I'll definitely be trying this in the next few days! None of the name brand store bought "products" worked for me either. I've been using Comet (in the green can, with bleach) with a damp soft scrubbing sponge -- like you showed. I think your way is easier! BTW, I'm a new subscriber from San Francisco, California. I found you with your first video of Pollacks, enjoyed you, looked at your videos & subscribed. Thanks so much! xo

I use a concentrated citrus cleaner - it’s a natural citrus based solvent.. No need for scrubbing - I spray it on and wipe it off. Also good for hard water stains.

Hi Renee! Do you know what I found that works for me? Dryer sheets! Yes, good ol' dryer sheets for sparkly clean shower doors! Wet it, wipe it, rinse it, and dry with a microfiber towel! When it's time to clean them I do it at the end of my shower - I have a couple dryer sheets ready, wipe down the inside of the doors while they are wet, let the shower head do the rinsing, then I turn off the water and dry them off! Easy peasy :)

Also you can harm the glo with your siappads. It leaves little scratches, at furst not visible with the eye, but later on uou di. My optician said that even paper leaves scratch es on your glasses so I do not use the prepared cleaning paper tissues for glasses anymore but a microfiber cloth.

Don't feel bad. I had a cleaning business for over 30 years and never heard of using steelwool soap pads on glass doors!! I hated the soap scum on ours so much that I actually had them removed and put up shower cutains which I can wash and I was much happier !

Hot vinegar in a spray bottle saturating the entire door works great for me. Heavy build up might require a 2nd spray but regular once a week does in for me. Does not scratch the glass either.

I have never heard about the soap pads but i know they really cleand shined the outside of ny appliances including build up on my toaster oven.

Where I live we have some serious hard water, I am not even kidding you...I can't even drink the water out of the tap where I live (It looks like milk to be honest)...Like you I have literally tried everything known to mankind...then one day I found CLR Bath & Kitchen ( And no not the CLR in the grey bottle that stuff is crapola)
But the Yellow bottle of CLR for the bath & kitchen...I LOVE it! All you do is spray it on every thing inside your shower (including your glass doors) Now I like to spray it on A LOT thick and let it run down on its own & it literally clean as it is dripping down your doors! Girl you can see it cleaning!) Also I like to take one of them sponges (NOT the sos pads but a sponge) you had an just make sure I get it everywhere on the inside of the shower walls..I spray the shower head with it EVERY THING..than I wait about 10- 15 minutes (just to let it run all the way down to the bottom) and then I turn on the COLD (has to be COLD water or it won't work for doodly do for some reason) and I just rinse it...and TADA clean see through shower doors...Girl I'm telling you my life is sooooooooooooooooooooo much easier now...I just love it...
Just just google CLR Bath & Kitchen (it's in a yellow bottle) and look at the image...EVERYWHERE literally sells it...I buy mine at the Wal-Mart for like $4 eezy peezy

Products with hydrchloric acid in it desolves the scale. We in the Netherlands have many products with that but prevention is hlf the job. My husband everydag wipes the shower and the glass screen. No scale, no mildew anymore. You almost never have to vlean you shower. You also can wipe your shower dry with your towel after using it and then throw it in the laundry bin.

Hmm. Same problem here. Have tried most of what you showed in addition to vinegar. I would have thought those Brillo pads would scratch the glass so 8 never would have tried it on my own. Now if I could find something to get the residue off the tiles!

Just finished watching, and I have an idea. Why couldn't you use, rain x on your glass doors after you clean them? It keeps your windshield clean, from road grime and everything that goes with it. You might have to refresh it once a month...any who, just a thought!

Great tip! I’ll definitely have to try the scrub pads. Another thing you may want to try that was mentioned by our builder many years ago is to use The Original Gel-Gloss spray. It’s a wax that you can use on the glass doors and fiberglass in the shower. By using this after cleaning and then squeegeeing after showering it may cut down on the build up of hard water. Thanks again for all your info on your you tube. I’ve been watching you for months and I’m also going grey. I’m about 9 months in and almost fully grown out. Thanks again for inspiring us all!
